Gyan gave a hearty chuckle and tossed the rope overboard, it laying straight across the smaller vessel, tand tied the other end to the mast of the ship.
He then walked back to the starbord end and leaned over, calling down "This might be a good idea after all, rumor has it that a couple of wizards got into a magic fight downstream and now there are a couple of water elementals roaming free," he finished and grasped hold of the rope, ready to help the first person up.

Evelyn was distracted from her attempts to persuade Vyncent that they should take up on the offer of a free ride by the dislike that took over her at the sight of all that armour. The shifter had always looked down on people who thought that they had to cover themselves in metal and wave around pointy sticks so that they could be strong. If someone could really fight then they had no need for great hunks of metal, that just seemed like cowardice to her. Even Vyncent didn't escape this sterotype because he carried around a sword, but she could forgive him because she knew that he could just as easily slaughter without the sword; the sword was just there for variety.
She rose to her feet, lingering just a little behind the demon, as if to tell him that he had to hurry up and make his decision, though she was sure that he would choose the larger boat over their puny one, even if it did mean trying to be socaible for a while. If they crew recognised them they just just slaughter them and steal the boat, either way suiting Evelyn. "Well Vynce, are we going?"

If anyone thought that Vyncent wasn't going to take an admittedly larger, SAFER looking boat than their tiny death-drap, they were severely mistaken, as was shown when the demon easily caught the rope that was thrown into their little vessel while nodding to Evelyn. "Of course we're going." he murmured, eyes flashing as the stranger above them spoke.
Water elementals? Oh, he did not need this. If there anything could have possibly made his day any worse, it was that something that was meant to be in the water was out of it, and could at any point come after them. Well, there was no true worry, a couple wizards weren't exactly life threatening targets, and nor were a few elementals. Even if water generally defeated fire... but he was going to pretend those rules didn't apply this time around.
With the help of the rope he managed to scale the side of the boat with little problem, even if there was that tiny possibility the rope would snap and he'd plummet into the water, but unlike most, this just ended up making him hold on even tighter, instead of loosening his grip. Of course he didn't accept Gyan's help once he'd reached the side of the other boat, climbing on board and sweeping himself off. Vyncent Schwarz, take help from anyone? Psht. "Don't touch the girl," he warned in a low voice, instantly scanning the area in front of them as though to check for these wizards and other beasts, "She hates it, and her claws are sharp."

Will smiled, looking down, as Gyan’s words about wizards and water whatever-they-were reached his ears. They sounded exciting, if nothing else – maybe the shining man would tell him what the other word meant. He was sure it would be interesting. His nonchalance about the whole thing probably stemmed from the way he viewed Vyncent – he found the demon intimidating, but felt protected around him. He had no doubt that Vyncent would be able to take care of a few of those… things, even if they were made of water.
When Vyncent had made his way up the side with the rope, Will decided it was time to abandon their little vessel. Evelyn was moving towards the rope, so jumped up and down once in the small boat just to make it rock, and jumped onto the side the other boat. With a grace and speed that wasn’t his, Will flowed like water up the side of the boat, his hands finding foot- and hand-holds that he hadn’t even noticed. He reached the top safe, but a little disoriented – that was how it always felt when he did that. He didn’t know how it worked, but it was definitely useful.
Now with his feet safely on deck, Will looked around him once quickly, and waited.

Gyan nodded in thanks at the first person up's words. In doing so, he made eye-contact as a sign of politness, and it took all of his willpower not to look suprised that the mans eyes were a violent crimson. The white hair had not thrown him off at all, but those eyes. There seemed to be something about them that he couldn't put a finger on. Gyan had read quite a bit in his time off, and knew quite a bit about the monsters, creatures and demons who traveled the land, and he managed to concur those eyes had to belong to something almost demon like, or exact. But he thought no more of it, and looked away. He was pretty sure that the newcommer wouldn't actually attack Gyan. Well, he liked to hope anyway.
The next one up seemed to give off a very bright charisma, and Gyan couldn't help but smile friendly at the man, but upon a second glance, his eyes widened slightly at the fact that the man almost seemed to be different, and upon a quick scrounge through his mental "monster manual" he concurred that he might possibly be half fey. Gyan shrugged a little bit, either only half believing it or half caring.
He looked down and saw the last person, the one he had been warned about, and he walked a bit back to allow them all some room before slinking off one of his gauntlets, rolling back the chainmail, and wiping the sweat from his forehead with a leather-gloved hand. All that armor did tend to get hot.

Evelyn was looking rather innocent as she stood waiting for Vyncent to climb up the rope, contrasting with what the demon had just told the shiny man. Even Will escaped any sort of scathing looks as he made the boat rock in such violent manner, the boy only receiving a brief scowl before her attention was back on the big boat. Ohhh, that boy was infuriating, he was just lucky that her attention was on the big boat and not getting left behind or she would have pounced at him right then and reminded him that he should be scared of her too. It was easy to forget that Evvie was a monster too sometimes, especailly with how innocent she could be. With her she was either a monster or a child, there was never really anything inbetween.
Evelyn seemed a little annoyed that she was the last person to be going up onto the boat, grabbing the rope to clamber up the side of the boat, gracelessly hopping over the railings so that she was stood on the deck, hissing at Gyan as if in warning to stop him looking at her before she stalked off to stand by Vyncent, jingling the braclets on her wrist absently as she looked up at the demon, narrowing her eyes suddenly. "There are too many people on this boat." She informed him with another huff before looking away again. "I don't want to be on this boat long."

Vyncent held his gaze with the stranger, seeming rather satisfied when he didn't take the knowledge that he was staring a demon in the face any further than that, brushing his hair out of his eyes as he stood on the deck and casting his gaze over the larger boat with mild interest. Yes, he seemed to much rather it up here; he still didn't feel at ease, not by a long shot, but up here at least the water was a good distance away, far enough away to let him think again. He smirked very lightly as Evelyn came to stand beside him, resting his hand on the hilt of his rapier as he glanced at her. "You suggested we 'swap boats' in the first place, didn't you?" he murmured quietly, "This one has more people because it is bigger, and I don't want to be on any boat for very long." he reminded her.
Glancing over his shoulder at Gyan, he couldn't help but wonder why someone would offer passage on a boat to strangers, using his own money... just like that? Mortals could be so odd sometimes. "Where is this boat bound?" he asked the man in armour, moving slowly to the side of the vessel simply for the purpose of watching their own little boat sail away on its own, obvious relief in his eyes. God, how he'd hated that boat. "And how far away is this magic fight?" It would be easier to judge how long it would be until they encountered any water elementals or otherwise if they knew just how far away the battle was taking place.

Quite the opposite of Evelyn’s outlook, the people on the boat didn’t bother him. That’s why he’d come to Valley Town in the first place, for the people, and he was a bit miffed at having been chased out of town by them. It was all Vyncent and Evelyn’s fault, but with bitter Will sleeping deep within his soul he didn’t resent them for it. But here, on the boat, at last there were people. He liked to hear stories, whether they were fact, legend, or outright fiction, and as a child he could sit unnoticed in lots of places and listen to conversation. So with the quiet murmur of voices thick in the air around him as the crew conversed quietly as they went about their respective chores, Will was content. Of course, after a few days he would grow bored with the limits of human company and seek something or someone more interesting. That was his nature, and it was unavoidable.
Will shuffled a little closer to Vyncent at the mention of a magic fight, interest lighting in his inquisitive green eyes. Will liked magic – it was mysterious and exciting. He’d never seen two people use it to fight one another before, though. It would be a great show! He crossed his fingers where Vyncent couldn’t see them, hoping that they’d be lucky enough to spot the duel. He knew though, that it would be unwise to put that particular desire into words, so he glanced at the sky, plucked another large clump of blood of his shirt and flicked it absentmindedly off the edge.

Gyan bitterly ignored the girls remark of "theres too many people". That kind of antisocial, "I'm too good for everyone else" attitude always irked him, but he thought no more, and acted not upon it. He replaced the gauntlet and looked at the red-eyed newcommer, answering his questions "This boat is actually on a free-ride, so to speak. Whenever, or wherever you wish to get off, let the captain know, and he'll let you know whats going on, and he'll give you a price, but don't worry about that," He added quickly, flashing a smile and tapping on his coin pocket on the belt straped across his chest. "Everythings on me, I'm not going to need this much money," He undid a flask from his side and took a drink before continuing. He then said "The battle occured about five miles downstream, but thats not a factor. Water elementals can blend in with the water and travel through it as far as the water goes. But they can only arise out of the water as much as their surface area, which depends on the summoner. If it does propose a threat, being water they arent affected by physical strikes. But lighting magic or lighting charmed weaponry would kill it," He explained. He smiled again and said "My names Gyanara," as he walked up to the group (not looking at Miss.Too Good for Everyone) and stretched out an armored hand, his cool amber eyes showing nothing but his true intentions of a smooth sailing and possibly a friendship with this hodgepodge and carmel hair flowing in the river wind.

Oh no, Evelyn didn't think that she was better than everyone else, far from it, she was just anti-social in the 'I hate people' kind of way. Her past had warped her opinion on people, and in her opinion they were the most evil things alive for ever creating cages and shoving things inside them. Humans thought that they had the right to cage and tame other animals and even other people, and that was why she disliked them so much. Plus, with people there was always the risk that they would touch her...and if they did that then she would have to maul him and, as Vyncent had pointed out, she had sharp claws. "I wanted to swap boats...meaning that they can have our little boat and we can have this big one." She pouted at the demon, sighing a little. "I suppose that you will just have to keep everyone away from me...I'm not feeling sociable." She huffed.
She didn't seem all that interested by the talk about magic, letting her gaze slowly sweep over the boat, turning her back on Gyanara as he walked over to them. Yes, she just wanted to make it clear that she didn't want to talk to him, turning her attention to peering down over the edge of the boat. Aww, it was harder to see the fish from up here...

Vyncent lifted a brow as Gyanara explained that he would be paying for them - what was he, stupid? Not even ordinary townsfolk would just give away their money to help others, that was ludicrous. The high demon was beginning to think that there was either something seriously wrong with this man, or that he was perhaps just incredibly naive. Whatever, he wasn't going to complain if it meant they were going to be able to ride for free, to wherever he decided to go next. And it was Gyan's loss if he ended up looking for that money later.
The demon glanced at the armoured man when he spoke again, holding his gaze steadily. "I am aware of the abilities water elementals have, even if I prefer to stay away from them, personally," he informed him, "They won't get far if they encounter us, I promise you." he cracked his knuckles, scowling down at the water moodily as if trying to spot the creatures. Ugh, it just tended to go from bad to worse, didn't it? The next time they had to make a run for it, he decided, he would just escape through the mountains. The river and the trouble that came with it simply wasn't worth it to him. Vyncent couldn't resist a light smirk at the stranger's attitude towards Evelyn; it was well known by now that neither he or the shape-shifter tended to play well with others, but Evelyn even more so.
"Vyncent." his gaze shot down to Gyan's hand as he spoke, seeming to be thinking for a second before he reached out to grasp it in a light hand-shake. No sense in being rude now, was there? "And my anti-social companion there is Evelyn, but don't for a moment think she's that way on purpose. You might regret it." he flashed him that strange, demonic little smile, the one that gave away both too much and nothing at all about him simultaneously.

Will let his concentration wander off as Gyan brought up the issue of money. He barely even noticed that the man was offering to pay for their ride. Will couldn’t remember the last time he had paid for anything – he was normally fast enough to either steal what he wanted or make an escape when the issue of payment arose. But on an even deeper level, he still thought like a child. He didn’t understand money, and expected other people to either give him what he wanted or pay for him. Why shouldn’t they?
He focussed more intently when the conversation shifted back to magic, and grinned happily at Gyan’s quick explanation of their abilities. They sounded fun! And people could call them up, could they? Will would have to work out how to do that. Water that moved where you wanted it to sounded wonderful… Maybe there were other kinds, too, not just water… Like the ground, maybe… Could you use that just as well? It was harder though… Lost in thought, Will missed the next part of the conversation.
He did, however, notice Gyan’s hand come out. He’d seen adults shake hands before, and wondered vaguely if the offer to shake extended to him. He half held out his hand, but jerked it back suddenly as he felt the cold aura of the metal. He could stand to be around it, but the thought of touching it – that freezing, burning cold – made him shudder and shuffle slightly further away.
"I'm Thistle," he offered offhandedly.

For some reason, Gyan felt that familliar tug on the bottom of his stomach. He was getting nervous. It was plain that these people diddn't want him around, and he was standing there making an ass of himself.
"Well, I'll leave you to it then" he said. "Um, I'm going to go check on my chocobo," he said a little faster then usual and he turned heel and left.
As he headed down the stairs out of sight, he turned into the room that had been set aside for him and Fenrir. The black chocobo was sound asleep, but he was still glad to get away. The trio gave him a certain chill. Not that they were bad, but he just felt like he diddn't belong.
Gyan reached over and pet Fenrir on the head, getting back a clucking chirp of sorts. It brought a smile out of him, and he leaned back on his bunk.

Evelyn's head lifted up at Gyan's mention of these 'chocobo' creatures, turning to look over her shoulder at him. She was quiet obviously an animal lover, even though she hunted many of the smaller animals, she had always treated her prey with care. Vyncent had witnessed that when he had first found her with her dead bird. Animals were generally better company than people anyway, they didn't ask questions and they were affectionate and usualy stuck around if you remembered to feed them, sort of like Evelyn except she had that streak of humanity in her that made her curious about everything.
She moved to stalk after Gyan as he disappeared down into the floor of the boat, glancing back over her shoulder to Vyncent to make sure that he was still there before she slipped off down the stairs, silent as she followed the knight. She brushed her hair back from her face as she peered around the door, finding herself smiling lightly, her opinion on the man changing. Maybe he was alright if he could look after an animal...though there was a nagging little voice in the back of her head telling her that he was keeping the chocobo a pet...keeping it captive.
"How'd you know it wants to be here?" Evelyn pouted as she folded her arms over her chest, a demanding look in her eyes as she looked at Gyan. "How do you know that it doesn't want to be free, not trapped in a tensy tiny little room?" She scowled at him accusingly. "You wouldn't want to be kept as a pet, would you?"

Vyncent could only watch the knight leave, his face a mask of cool indifference. Let the man make of them what he wished, although his curiosity was rather obvious at the mentioning of this 'chocobo', the demon tilting his head a little. He'd heard of the creatures although he'd never seen one up close; he'd always figured them for clumsy birds, not that he had anything directly against them. Most animals, disregarding cats, seemed to dislike him, and he didn't really want to put this to the test with a chocobo... not while they were on a boat anyway. He imagined a large, probably strong animal would not be ideal to have panicked when it was in a confined space.
The demon smiled lightly as Evelyn disappeared down to follow Gyan, that being rather typical of the shapeshifter in his opinion. It was true, he had seen first hand the twisted compassion she held for her prey, and the affinity she had for all animals. And God knew how quickly she could change her opinion of somebody; Gyan was probably going to be in her good books, as soon as he confirmed that the chocobo actually WANTED to be with him, and he wasn't keeping it captive on purpose. Ah, Evelyn, she could be an animal rights activist one minute, and a cold blooded killer the next. This was why he enjoyed her company, even if he would never admit it to anyone.
He turned after both the shapeshifter and the knight had left, glancing down the river and frowning. So, it was just him and Will now, hm? Vyncent couldn't lie, he was in a better mood than he had been previously, his cheerful side was most likely going to break through after they were back on land; that didn't make him any less dangerous, he was just... better natured about it. In a creepy way.
"Can you sense them?" he asked in an offhand way, so it almost sounded as though he was addressing anyone, not only Will. He was gazing into the water, frowning a little in concentration. "The water elementals, they aren't very far away... neither is the magic fight. You can see it in the air, and in the water." he narrowed his eyes, the odd little shimmer here and there telling of the magical discharge, and the faint ringing in his ears... that would be the elementals. And a few of them were pretty big, considering the size of the river. Oh, hell.
