"Pretty sure that there would be room for all three of us if we squeezed up close." He winked to Phoenix with a smirk. He knew that he wasn't going to get anywhere, but that wouldn't stop him. Flirting was in his nature, trying to make him stop would be impossible, it would be like chopping his hand off and telling him to cope. "Psht, I'll have to go find someone to go enjoy my nice, single bedroom with." He huffed half playfully as Phoenix turned to walk away, folding his arms over his chest for a moment to watch them go before grinning softly to himself and shaking his head. They were cute, and they had been through a lot. He guessed that they needed time to get used to each other's company again. In the meantime, Kevay was more than capable of looking after himself, the cupid turning to go and find himself a friend for the night.
Rory shook her head a little at Phoenix as he apologised for Kevay. "It's okay, don't worry about it. He doesn't mean any harm." She smiled to him faintly, her blush fading away as they headed up to their room, the Princess suddenly seeming tired. It had been a long time since she had slept properly, and today had been a pretty long day. "It is nice, just me and you." She agreed with a smile, reluctantly letting go of his hand so he could go change. "He seems like a nice enough person. I don't think he means anything by the flirting. It's just...him." She murmured as she lifted her case up onto the bed and opened it up, sorting through the clothes to find her nightdress as he changed.
Rory glanced up as Phoenix appeared from around the screen, blushing a little as he appeared with shirt off, running her fingers through her hair as she glanced away again. "Everything was perfect. If I wasn't okay with all of this I wouldn't have said yes." She pointed out with a small smirk. She picked her silk nightdress up and moved behind the screen to change. She changed quickly before returning putting her folded up clothes back in the case before moving to sit on the edge of one of the beds. "I'm just tired, and worried, it feels like something awful is waiting around the corner because I'm so happy. Happy never seems to last long for me..." She admitted with a weak smile. "Hah, yeah... it's just him. Still might have to smack his face to teach him not to go perving constantly on my fiancée. Sorry, Rory, but I'm feelin' pretty protective of you right now," he smiled to her softly, absently reaching back to unplait his hair, shaking his head so it fell down over his shoulders in messy tousles. He smiled again as she spoke and disappeared behind the screen to change, Phoenix sinking down on the end of the other bed ready for when she returned. "I'm glad you said yes," he murmured softly. "You'll never know how glad I am that you said yes," he laughed, leaning back on his hands and sighing deeply, closing his eyes until she emerged from behind the screen again.
The knight watched her as she moved back into the room and sat down on the edge of the other bed, simply... gazing at her for a moment or so, as if he wanted to remember properly what she looked like. "It never lasts long for me either," he mumbled, smiling rather shyly. "But... this time, maybe it'll be all right. It feels all right, Rory. It feels amazing," he sighed to her, getting up to lean down in front of her on one knee, taking her hand to kiss the back of it. "I love you, and we've gotten this far. I'm gonna take you to Chemin Vert and we're gonna get married, Rory. It's really real," he laughed softly, leaning up to catch her lips in a kiss for a moment.
"I'll see you in the morning," he smiled after a while, only speaking softly since they were so close. He rose to his feet after that, rising to his feet and sinking down onto his bed again, flopping back onto the covers. "Goodnight," he mumbled.

"I can deal with protective. It's actually rather flattering, just don't take it too far, Phoenix." She smiled to him faintly, shaking her head. How else could she expect him to react to someone like Kevay? Threat or not, it wasn't pleasant watching someone else flirt with the one that you loved. She knew that one first hand. The Princess blushed as she realised that he was gazing at her, running her fingers through her hair, looking rather self conscious. She was aware that she wasn't looking her best, months of being locked away in the tower worrying had taken their toll on her, but she already looked brighter, that dead look had already faded from her eyes. It was amazing what even the shortest amount of time with Phoenix could do.
She smiled as he knelt down in front of her and took her hand, finding herself wishing that she could believe what he was saying to her but…fortune hadn't been good to her in the past year, and that had made her rather cynical. She hated herself for it, but she had lost part of her naivety, lost that ability to see the best in everything. She hoped that it would return, in time, but she wasn't sure. All that she knew was that she couldn’t lost Phoenix again, not now, she wasn't sure that she would survive it.
Her hand moved to rest on his shoulder as he kissed her, worries melting away. "I love you too, and it is real. We just have to hold onto that, and hope that our luck continues at least until we get back to Chemin Vert. I can't wait to see your home." She murmured, waiting until he had flopped onto his own bed before she clambered under the covers of her own, curling up and pulling them up around her. "Goodnight, Phoenix." She murmured back to him before closing her eyes, exhaustion meaning that she slipped off to sleep far more easily than she was used to.
The Princess awoke sometime in the dead of the night, the inn silent around them apart from the creaking of the building. Her eyes snapped open, Rory sitting up to look over at Phoenix's bed, sighing in relief as she spotted his silhouette under the covers through the darkness. She pushed back her blankets without a word, moving to silently pad across the room to his bed before lifting the edge of the blankets to climb into bed with him. She had missed him, more than she could ever tell him, and sleeping in the bed across the room felt as though it were miles and miles away. Just tonight, she told herself mentally, she would allow herself to sleep in his bed just tonight, while things still felt so uncertain. Anyway, it wasn't as though they hadn't shared a bed before.

Phoenix, of course, stirred as he felt Rory clamber into bed with him; she wasn't the only one who had been exhausted (okay, so he had been slightly drunk as well). Phoenix was surprised that he had woken up at all, the knight blinking through the darkness and seeming vaguely aware that there was somebody else in bed with him. And from the sweet perfume, there was only one possibility of who it could be. Phoenix obviously thought he was dreaming, though he didn't much care, moving to slip his arms around the princess - partially because he didn't think she was there anyway, partially because there wasn't much room on the bed... but mostly just because he really, really wanted to. He was asleep again in seconds.
The rest of the night passed rather swiftly for Phoenix, the knight stirring suddenly as someone knocked the door outside. He reluctantly opened his eyes, grumbling about it being too early despite not knowing what time it was; while he was a little better in the mornings, he was still terrible at waking up, especially without the chicory of the Cressan slums. He took his arms from around Rory (clearly having forgotten she was there in the first place), and padded to the door, unlocking it and peering out. A maid greeted him, having brought them breakfast in bed, something that Phoenix had quite forgotten he'd ordered. He took it gratefully, of course, offering a sleepy smile to the maid before turning back to the room, clicking the door shut behind him again.
"Rory," he yawned, "I got... huh?" He was looking over at her empty bed, seeming half panicked and half confused in his half asleep state, before his gaze found the princess in his bed. "Ohh... you were with me?" he mumbled, shuffling to the bed to set down the tray on the bedside table. He smiled dumbly at the hot coffee, the fresh milk, the orange juice the hot toast with melting butter, the selection of fruits and cold meats and the pot of sweet jam, as if it were heaven on a plate. The only thing he really didn't miss about the slums, and about being on the run (apart from the cold) was the lack of food. Happily, he sank down onto the bed on Rory's side, being careful not to disturb her or anything as he poured himself a cup of coffee.

Rory found that she had her most peaceful nights sleep in months in Phoenix's arms. She was curled up comfortably with him, far closer than was actually decent, but in her sleepy state she didn't much care. She was warm, she was comfortable and, above all, Phoenix was there. What else did you need for the perfect nights sleep? Well, maybe being woken up by someone knocking on the door wasn't the best of ways to be woken up, but she wasn't complaining. Well, she wouldn't have if Phoenix hadn't moved out of the bed to see who was at the door, she was pretty sure that she was allowed to complain about that.
The Princess pouted, still half asleep, sighing sleepily as he moved away from her. One of her eyes half opened to watch him as he trailed across the room to the door, letting her eyes drift closed again as she realised that it was just breakfast and nothing too important. It was about time she got up, but she needed to muster up enough energy and shake all the sleep out of her mind before she could even think about anything. She nuzzled her face into the pillow, tugging the blankets closer as she listened to the maid talk to Phoenix, pushing the blankets back again to peer over at him as he said her name. "I was with you." She confirmed with a faint blush and a light smile, shuffling to sit up as he moved back across the room, running her fingers through her hair to neaten it up.
"Morning, Phoenix." She murmured to him, leaning over to take the glass of orange juice from the tray, sipping at it to help wake her up. "You don't mind me sleeping here with you, right? I guess I got lonely over there on my own..."

"Mornin' Rory," Phoenix smiled around his coffee, letting his sleepy mind wake up now that there was food and drink and his princess was awake. He smirked to her, putting the coffee back down on the tray for a moment while he chose what to have for breakfast. "Mind?" He chuckled, seeming to find that incredibly funny for some reason. "Why the heck would I mind? I proposed to you. Like I'm gonna get huffy if you climb into bed with me," he grinned, helping himself to some of the bread, putting jam on it and settling back to eat. Once he was finished, he resumed drinking his coffee, letting its bitterness perk him up and the sugar start to bring him out of his doze. "Although," he mused to himself, smirking faintly, "if this is gonna be a regular thing, should prob'ly order just a double bed from now on." He winked at Rory. "Like I said, I don't mind, but a small bed like this makes me afraid to turn over, case I fall out."
The knight fell quiet now to finish his coffee, looking pretty cheerful and even quite mischievous as he got up from the bed. He felt bad about leaving so much food on the tray; he might not miss the food from the slums because of how mediocre it had been, but it made him feel a little sick to know that good food like this was being wasted. Phoenix would never grow out of hating nobility for that. "I'm gonna wash and get dressed, if that's okay," he smiled over his shoulder, that thievish little glint in his eyes as he disappeared to the basin to wash. "Then I'll leave you to get up and stuff while I wake up Kevay," he winked, flicking water at her playfully as he dried himself off, before he disappeared behind the screen in the room.
Phoenix was actually humming to himself by the time he emerged; he was thirsty for alcohol and still a bit dopy from sleep, but... God, he felt good right now. He'd changed into new clothes, though his armour was all going on top of that anyway, the knight leaning down to pull on the leather breastplate and the gauntlets and the like. A tin can he might not be (Phoenix wasn't nearly strong enough to be one of those huge, meatshield knights that blasted through opponents as if they were made of jelly) but a knight, he most definitely was. "Ta daa," he grinned to her as he straightened up, attaching his rapier to his belt. "I never asked you. What'cha think of the new look?" he smirked.

Rory took a moment to neaten her hair up and straighten out her nightdress as she sat up, blushing faintly as she looked down at herself. They may have shared a bed before, but it had been a long while and the princess seemed rather embarrassed that he was seeing her in such a state of undress, taking a moment to arrange the blankets around her before she looked up at him again. "I guess that I must just have been lonely. I missed you." She smiled to him faintly, seeming a little self conscious still as she reached out to pick at fruits from the tray. She hadn't been eating much while she had been away (away seemed like a more pleasant way to think of her time trapped in the tower), which meant that she didn't really have too much of an appetite, not that she had ever eaten too much in the first place. "Regular? I…we shouldn't really." She shook her head a little, blushing faintly. It wasn't exactly decent that they were sharing a room, never mind a bed, especially now that they were engaged. If they were at the castle they wouldn't be allowed any time alone together, then again, the reason that she had run away was to escape that sort of oppression.
"That's okay, I would feel lazy if we just laid around all morning. I think we've probably already over slept a little." She moved the tray away as he stood up, watching him as he moved across the room. She laughed as he flicked the water at her, wrinkling her nose up at him playfully, shaking her head as he disappeared behind the screen. She got out of bed while he was behind the screen, making it and her own neatly before selecting clothes for the day while she waited for him to change. It was nice waking up with Phoenix, she could easily get used to this again. His presence made mornings seem so much more bearable.
She had washed by the time he emerged from behind the screen, a smile tugging at the edges of her lips as her gaze flickered over to him. The clothes suited him, though it was strange seeing him out of his usual slum attire. He was handsome, and him being so well dressed made that even more obvious, though he also kept that roughish charm that she had fallen for. She blushed again as he asked her what she thought of this new look, brushing her hair back from her face as she rose to her feet. "I like it. You're very handsome, Phoenix, nobility suits you." "Ahh, oversleeping once in a while won't hurt anyone," he winked at Rory, as if to say that she should give herself a break once in a while. Their situation was still a little dire, and it could change or get worse if they were caught out before they got to Chemin Vert, but all in all Phoenix didn't really mind or care less. He was happy, and right now that seemed like something that happened so rarely that he was taking this moment (and all the other moments with Rory) and storing them away in his memory to keep fresh and pristine forever. He straightened up after a while, smiling to her faintly. "But I'm not nobility," he shook his head, as if to remind her of that fact. "I'm just a slummer who got lucky." If Phoenix ever forgot that about himself, he wouldn't be Phoenix any more.
"But you are right," he grinned, offering her a roguish little bow that was made just a little more difficult because of his armour, "I am very handsome."
He checked the saber at his waist for a moment before smiling to Rory and moving to the door. "I'll leave you to wash and dress in peace for a few minutes, okay? I'm gonna go wake up Kevay." And try and prise him away from the girl that was probably in his bed, he thought unconsciously. "I won't be too long, but take your time. See you in a little while," he smiled at her brightly, about to leave before remembering himself and sweeping over to her to kiss her cheek. It was something he'd always wanted to do, but something he'd never figured would become a normality. It was nice, he thought.
After this little informality, Phoenix swept out of the room and clicked it shut behind him, leaving the key in the door on Rory's side so that she could lock the door and have a little privacy. He crossed the corridor to Kevay's room and knocked rather loudly. He didn't remember how much wine they'd had yesterday, but he did remember that Kevay wasn't much used to drinking that amount any more. He wondered if the cupid would be hungover.

Rory smiled lightly to herself as he reminded her that he had come from the slums, as though she needed reminding of the fact. It was actually nice to see that he wasn't getting carried away with this whole nobility thing, often the money and the power went to people's heads, Rory had seen it happen a million times. "Slummer or noble, it doesn't much matter to me what you are, Phoenix, as long as you are here. Either way, I wouldn't have said no." She murmured to him, brushing her hair back from her face. Rags or riches, it didn't matter to her. She had met Phoenix in the slums, and she had fallen for him while they had been on the run and hadn't had anything. As long as he didn't lost himself again like he had after Miles' death then things would work out just fine. She wasn't quite sure that she could go through Phoenix withdrawing like that again.
She brightened at the bow, laughing lightly and shaking her head at him. Thankfully that roughish charm wasn't something that he was going to grow out of. "I tend to be right about these things." She nodded to him, a playful tone to her voice. She nodded as he told her that he was going to go and wake Kevay, thankful for the time to get ready even if she didn't really want him to leave. Any gloomy thoughts she had about him leaving were dispelled as he swept over to her side to kiss her cheek, a faint blush rising where his lips had touched, leaving her skin tingling pleasantly. She could forgive him for a little while if she got a kiss before he left.
The princess watched him as he left the room before moving over to the door, turning the key to lock it, just in case, before moving to disappear behind the screen to change. She may not really be a fan of locked doors any more, but Rory had grown rather more cautious. Everything that could go wrong tended to happen, so she would rather be safe than sorry. She had been kidnapped more times than enough, thank you very much.
Phoenix's knock was answered by a groan from inside Kevay's room, the cupid unconsciously answering the question that Phoenix had been asking himself. Yes, he was hung-over, and no, he didn't like this one bit. It was a rather flustered looking young woman who cautiously answered the door, flashing a nervous smile to the knight before slipping pat him to hurry off down the corridor, hastily slipping the ring from her pocket back onto her finger. The cupid himself was still in bed, curled up in the middle of it hiding under the covers, not really wanting to move because that made the world tilt. "Go 'way. Dyin'." He mumbled, voice hoarse. Phoenix should have been surprised at the young woman answering the door to him. He should have been appalled at the sight of her slipping that ring back on her finger. He should have gone in there and lectured the crap out of Kevay. But he wasn't. And he didn't. The knight could only smile to himself, walking into Kevay's room and making as little noise as he could, pushing the door shut with a soft click so that the light wouldn't hurt his eyes. In the time they'd been together, Phoenix had learned to accept Kevay, regardless of his flaws (and between them, there were many). Kevay was his best friend - after Miles Phoenix hadn't been quick to trust anyone, but Kevay was the exception. He guessed that Kevay was the exception to many things, in fact.
"Dyin'? I don't think you're dyin', I think you're hungover," Phoenix said with a wink, pouring some water into a glass from the jug on the table before pulling up a chair next to Kevay's bed. He tugged the covers down from over him just enough so he could see his face. "Tut tut," he grinned, "what would Lexie say?"
Despite his joking, Phoenix wasn't there to mock the cupid. He was too happy for that. He offered him the glass of water, a smile on his face. "Rory's getting ready in the other room. I think we should try and get back to Chemin Vert ASAP, since people will prob'ly be asking stupid questions by now, and we'll have a lot to answer for. Drink up, I'll send for some coffee to go. You think you can sit in the carriage with Rory without throwing up all over her? I don't even mind you usin' her as a pillow, but I won't appreciate you coverin' her in sick," he said, grinning. "What you think?"

"No, pretty sure I'm dyin'." He mumbled, dramatic to his dying breath, that was Kevay. His voice was only small and pathetic, and he was looking pretty green as Phoenix pulled the covers back enough to see him. Even his hair was messed up, the cupid really must be feeling rough. He groaned at the dim light, raising a shaky hand to press it over his eyes. "S'not a hangover...s'a killer illness. Stupid woman poisoned me with her...her poison kisses!" He decided with an adorably grumpy pout, attempting to nuzzle further down under the blankets. "Lexie's gonna kill me." He sighed eventually, sounding gloomy.
At first the cupid eyed the glass of water as though he had no idea what it was, before shuffling to sit up to accept the glass. His eyes were screwed up to block the light out, Kevay wrinkling his nose up as he gulped the water down. "Strong coffee? Soak up all that wine?" He asked before suddenly giving Phoenix a lopsided smirk. "You know what'd help me wake up? I just wanna peek at her, just walk in and straight back out, that's it, promise, then I'll be all awake." He grinned brightly. Well, th thought of womanising always put him in a good mood, especially when there was a Princess around (even if she was out of bounds).
"Me? Throw up on her? Psht. Phoenix, I'm a gentleman." He huffed, though he was unable to keep a straight face.

"Yeah... Yeah, she probably is gonna kill you," he smiled to Kevay, shrugging his shoulders. There was no doubt about it; Lexie probably wouldn't be very happy with the cupid. She had spent all that time trying to wean him off the alcohol only for him to go and down a couple of bottles of wine when she was out of earshot. He was in for some harsh words at the very least, and a slap if she was really annoyed with him. "A killer illness? Hardly, Kevay," Phoenix folded his arms as he sat back in his chair to watch the cupid, seeming worried at how green he was. Phoenix didn't want to be thrown up on. "I've had hangovers enough times to be able to spot one."
The knight threw Kevay an unimpressed look at the suggestion that peeking in at his new fiancée would wake him up a little, smirking at him suddenly. "Sure you can, Kevay. Unfortunately though, if I let you do that I'll have to tether your hands and tie you to the carriage and make you run aaaaaaaaall the way back to Chemin Vert. Without bathroom breaks. With a hangover." He blinked at him, as if serious about the offer.
"A gentleman? Of course, I should have known. Well, that's double the reason for you not to go and peek in at her. I'll get the coffee to go, and I'll meet you down by the carriage in ten minutes. If you're not there, I'm going without you," Phoenix winked. He rose to his feet, wandering over to pull the curtains wide open for good measure, before wandering back to the door. "See you in a bit, Dante," he grinned, exiting the room and moving to tap at the door to his and Rory's. "You ready yet?" he asked quietly through the door.

Nope, Kevay refused to think about Lexie and all of the trouble that he would be in when they got back. By then his hangover should have fade away, but he got the impression that Phoenix would make a point of filling the jester in on his antics. It had only been a celebratory glass of wine, it was just that his glass wasn't empty until several bottles later. No, he doubted that she would buy that excuse either, at least he had a nice, long coach trip back to try and come up with something a little more plausible. Either that or figure out a way to bribe Phoenix to keep silent. In fact, the latter might actually be the easier option...
Kevay actually took a long moment to consider Phoenix's next comment, his head tilting to the side, a rather serious look in his eyes. He huffed as he came to the conclusion that a peek probably wasn't worth running all the way to Chemin Vert on a hangover. If they had been closer, and if he wasn't in the state that he was, it was likely to be an offer that he would have taken very seriously, even if the knight had been jesting. You didn't make an offer like that when Kevay was around unless you meant it, you never quite knew when he would agree.
"Fine, fine." He grumbled, rubbing at his temples. He flinched as Phoenix tore the curtains open, screwing his eyes up and groaning as he flopped back onto the bed, hiding his face in his pillow. "Ten minutes? But I'm a state. You're in an evil mood, Phoenix. Just 'cause I asked to sleaze at your fiancé." He grumbled, throwing his pillow at the door as his friend left. He was in a grumpy mood today, he'd decided.
Rory answered the door as he knocked, opening it just enough to peer out at him at first before smiling and opening it fully to let him in, stepping back. "I'm ready." She confirmed with a nod, dressed in a simple, mint green dress with a hem which swept the ground and sleeves that came to her elbows. Intricate details were picked out here and there in silver thread which shone when it caught the light. She also wore a delicate silver chain with three little charms on it, an anchor, a cross and heart. Rory loved jewellery, Chris had remembered that and tried to bribe her with small gifts. She had been wearing the necklace when she had left, which was why she still had it now. She had made a conscious effort to left everything else he'd given her behind. "Is Kevay alright? Does he need a little more sleep or anything?"

"If I was in an evil mood, Kevay, you'd know it," Phoenix smirked as he glanced over his shoulder into his friend's room, clicking his door shut just in time to narrowly avoid whatever it was that Kevay had decided to throw at him. He was smiling as Rory opened her door to him, the knight seeming to forget all about the hungover cupid and his threats to peek in on his fiancée while she was getting dressed. Rory had stolen his heart right at the beginning, and undoubtedly she had yet to relinquish it. Luckily for Rory, Phoenix had no intention of falling out of love with her.
"You look beautiful," he told her quietly, moving to take her hand and kiss the back of it. He had fallen asleep and woken back up again and Rory was still his princess, and still his wife-to-be. Things couldn't look more positive right now. "Hm?" He was drawn out of his daze at the mention of Kevay, a thievish little smile on his face. "No, he definitely doesn't need any more sleep," he assured her with the briefest shake of his head, taking her hand to walk her out of their room, clicking the door shut behind them. "Though he's feelin' a little delicate, so he might have to sit in the back of the carriage with you until he feels better. He'll behave, I promise. Or else," he smirked.
He led her away downstairs, promising that Kevay would come and meet them in ten minutes. Those ten minutes (well, twenty - Phoenix had been feeling nicer now that he was with Rory again) passed in a blur; Phoenix got their coffee, had retrieved their carriage, loaded their things into it and had left Rory at their breakfast table while he went to get their renegade, hungover cupid.
"Kevay!" he called lightly, tapping at the door to his room again. "You alive?"

(***Skip***)
The journey back to Chemin Vert had been interesting to say the least. Sitting in the back of the carriage with Kevay wasn’t really anything that you could prepare yourself for. Luckily for Rory the cupid had been on his best behavior. He had kept his hands to himself and stayed on his side of the seat. Well, he had except for the time that he had fallen to sleep with his head in her lap, and left the Princess incredibly awkward until Phoenix dragged him out of the carriage by his ankle. Other than that, the journey had been good. Phoenix had even let her sit up on the driver’s seat with him. Plus, the long journey let them talk and catch up. It had been a long while since they had seen each other.
Kevay was currently sprawled out in the back of the carriage trying to deal with his alcohol withdrawal before he got to Chemin Vert. That and he was trying to man up before he saw Lexie; she was going to murder him for his not to little slip up. He sighed as he peeked out of the window, watching the little village grow closer, wrinkling his nose up. Damn Phoenix and Rory, all of their good feelings were making it impossible for him to be really down.
Rory was sat up on the driver’s seat with Phoenix, sunlight playing in her hair as she leant forward to get her first glimpses of Chemin Vert. It had taken a while for her to shake off everything that had happened, and she still wasn’t really herself again yet, but, right now her eyes were alive with curiosity and hope as they trundled closer to the little village. Her cheeks were rosy because of the chill in the air despite being bundled up in her fur lined coat, not that she seemed to be paying any attention to the cold. “Is that we’re we’re going, Phoenix? It’s charming.” She smiled happily, glancing up at the red haired Knight at her side. “That’s home?”
