Phoenix smiled at her faintly as she looked away from him, shaking his head. "Don't," he murmured gently, his voice barely more than a whisper. "You look gorgeous when you're all flustered," he admitted. "Don't hide it." He leant over to kiss her rosy red cheek, as if to prove that it didn't bother him, the knight smirking again as she rested her hand on top of his. "It's all right. We got all the time in the world, don't we? 'Sides, you wouldn't be you if you weren't shy. I like you just the way you are." He settled back in the carriage now, though he didn't move her from his lap in the slightest. In fact, he liked things just the way they were right now. "Doesn't mean I'm gonna stop, though," he added with a grin, leaving a slow trail of kisses down the side of her neck now, glancing up as she spoke again.
"No offence, Rory, but I don't consider the Claustrum or sneaking through the Avalan-Marmosian border ideal places for first dates," he smirked. "But it's all right. Now I can take you to hundreds of places, and you won't have to hide your face or nothin'," he mumbled, sitting up ever so slightly, though that was only so he could draw her that little bit closer. "I love you. I don't think I can say that enough," he smiled, moving to steal another kiss from her lips (he was less... enthusiastic this time, at least), his hand slowly creeping up her leg. She was lucky though, Phoenix had behaved himself enough not to try and move his hand up her dress yet. But then he actually cared about Rory.

If there was a sure way to make her even more flustered then it was him telling her that she was gorgeous, and kissing her cheek. Well, Rory was a shy and sheltered person, she didn‘t seem to realise that there were far worse things that Phoenix could have whispered to her to make her even more flustered. “We have, all the time in the world.” She agreed with him quietly, hoping that he wouldn‘t be able to hear quite how loudly her heart was beating, especially as his lips touched to her neck. Not that the touch wasn‘t…pleasant, his lips sent shivers chasing out over her skin, but…she had no idea how to react. The Princess was totally out of her depth here, she didn‘t even know where to put her hands.
“Not those places, we went to a couple of nice places. Angel‘s Peak was gorgeous, and…other places…” She couldn‘t concentrate, not with his hand sneaking up her leg. “Not having to hide will be nice.” She agreed quietly, biting her lowe lip lightly, her blush deepening a little. “I love you too.” She whispered back to him, leaning forward just a little to meet the light kiss.
It was around about that time that the door to the carriage was pulled open, Kevay looking ruffled up and smug as he popped his head inside. “Hey guys, I‘m all do- woaaaah!” He stopped mid-sentence as he realised that he was interrupting something here. Something pretty important. “Sorry, I‘ll go…drive yeah? Leave you two to it.” He winked to them shamelessly, giving Phoenix a none too discreet thumbs up of approval before he stepped back and gently shut the door again. The carriage rocked slightly as he clambered up into the drivers seat, and he could be heard laughing to himself softly before the carriage rocked into motion.
Rory‘s eyes were wide as she looked at the door, her cheeks bright red. Her hands had moved away from him now, resting on her burning cheeks, as though in an attempt to hide her embarrassment. It was one thing getting close to Phoenix, but it was a totally different matter that someone had just walked in on them. Oh dear, what was Kevay going to think of her?

Phoenix was far too busy kissing Rory to realise that the carriage door had opened, the knight opening his eyes and drawing back from her only when he heard Kevay's voice. Of course, by that time he had already excused himself and hurriedly shut the doors. Phoenix caught the thumbs up though. Nice. He was laughing to himself as Kevay finally clambered into the box to take them away from the town, shaking his head. He would have to explain to him later when they stopped for a break. He didn't want him getting the wrong idea about him and Rory. She was too shy, and a princess to boot. He wasn't going to be taking advantage of that; he loved her too much.
Phoenix glanced back around at Rory when he realised she had moved herself away from him, the knight smiling weakly as the carriage jerked into motion. "Hey," he murmured, smiling lightly. "It's okay, he won't think anything bad of you. I'll explain everything to him when we next stop," he assured her, shifting to sit properly and offering her his hand, as if to promise that he wouldn't do anything inappropriate for the rest of their journey. He didn't want to freak Rory out when he'd just found her again. Even if things would never be the same. He just couldn't stop looking at the ring on her finger, smiling to himself faintly as they made their way out of the town.
"Mm... at least Chris won't even suspect it's us in here, with Kevay driving," he commented to her softly, glancing out of the window and tilting his head back to rest it against the cushions. God. It felt like such a long way home. Then, he supposed, he'd better send a letter (or a thousand) to a number of people to explain the situation... aaaaand formally ask the Avalan king for his daughter's hand in marriage. That was guaranteed to go down well.

”He has awful timing.” She mumbled, still seeming pretty mortified about what had just happened. She linked her fingers with his as she shuffled to sit next to him, a more appropriate distance between them now. She didn‘t want Kevay to think badly of her, or get the wrong idea about her, even though he himself seemed to have no problem letting the world know just what he was up to. It wasn‘t as though Rory even made a habit of getting all close with anyone. Then again, Phoenix was the exception to a million rules, especially where she was concerned. She still didn‘t want to let go of him though, they had spent too long apart for her to be able to suffer any time actually parted from the thief right now. No, not thief, knight. He was a knight now.
“He won‘t know to look for Kevay. I doubt that he would even think to check carriages. He will think that you are bluffing about being a knight…” She smiled as she looked up at him, glad of the change of subject. “His face was a picture when you introduced yourself.” She grinned, settling comfortably on the cushions, turning her gaze out of the window to watch the town roll past. “How far away is Chemin Vert? What‘s it like there?” She asked, turning her attention back around to Phoenix again; she‘d much prefer to gaze at him than the snowy scenery outside.

"Kevay has a habit of having awful timing," he agreed with a grin, nodding to her and taking a second to remove the gauntlet from the hand that was in Rory's; damn armour, getting in the way. He gave her hand a gentle squeeze as she shuffled to sit next to him, smiling down at her without being able to help himself. "Hm? Hah, yeah. It was happening really quickly, but at least I had time to realise how funny his expression was," he chuckled, shaking his head. It was a relief to know that Chris wouldn't be popping up in annoying places to look for them. Well, he would be looking for them, but that didn't necessarily mean he was going to find them.
"Chemin Vert? It's pretty far... almost a week away on horse-back. I heard a rumour 'bout you bein' here... I guess I couldn't help myself. And I can thank Kevay for that," he murmured, shrugging a shoulder. "And it's... uh..." he trailed away, actually having to think hard to tell her about the village he owned. It wasn't as if he'd been paying much attention to it while living in this stupor, waiting to die. Eventually he summoned a picture of the little town, smiling. "It's pretty," he nodded. "Though people have just finished re-buildin' it. It was targeted by a bunch of rebels, 'cause it's at the foot of a mountain. I hope you like it," he nodded.
He'd fallen silent after that, not realising that Rory was watching him. His gaze flitted between the window and the princess for a while, Phoenix not even realising when he'd gotten tired or fallen asleep, he'd shuffled to slump in the seat after a while, his head lolling on Rory's shoulder as he was lulled to sleep by the rocking of the carriage. He jolted awake a few hours later, as if just realising that he had fallen asleep in the first place. "Hmm...? Where're we?"

Rory settled with him comfortably once he had taken the gauntlet off, glancing around the interior of the carriage. It wasn’t too big, just about big enough for the both of them, but it was comfortable, the seats padded with small cushions scattered here and there for extra comfort when sleeping. She hadn’t ever thought that she would be sat somewhere like this with Phoenix, with an engagement ring on her finger, heading back to his village. It made a change from sneaking around the slums in the dark. She smiled as he told her a little about Chemin Vert, “It sounds like a nice place. I‘m sure that I‘ll love it, especially if you are there.” She murmured. Layla‘s in at the slums would have been perfect because he was there with her. She would have taken anything if he was around; even her tower prison would have seemed almost pleasant if she had been able to see Phoenix.
The silence between them was comfortable, the princess content to just let everything that had happened over the last couple of hours settle into her mind. Her gaze had finally drifted away from her knight to watch the snowy scenery roll past outside. She only realised that he had fallen to sleep when she felt his head touch to her shoulder, smiling faintly as she glanced down at him. He‘d had a rough couple of months, he deserved a little time out to just relax while he was happy. With her free hand she brushed the hair back from his face before tilting her head to rest it on top of his, her gaze moving back out of the window. She would let him sleep as long as he wanted to, after all, he‘d had a long journey to get to her.
Rory jumped a little as Phoenix jolted awake, blinking as she turned to look down at him again, pulling herself from her thoughts. “Hi, have a nice sleep?” She asked, smiling to him, giving his hand a small squeeze. “I‘m not sure where we are, but it got dark a little while ago.” She told him, brushing one of the curtains aside to show him, the interior of the carriage lit by flickering lamps. “Kevay says there‘s a town up in the distance, it can‘t be too far away now. We‘re going to stop there for the night, if that‘s alright.”

Phoenix was looking kind of dopy as she explained everything to him, sitting up a little and cursing the armour he wore (it wasn't the most comfortable thing to sleep in), smiling at her gently as she squeezed his hand. "Didn't even realise I fell asleep," he laughed sheepishly, pushing his hair back from his face and glancing around the interior of the carriage. "Dark?" he peered out of the window, shaking his head. Typical, he'd fallen asleep. "Mm? Yeah, stopping for the night sounds good. As long as we're a decent distance from the tower, Phoenix was happy to do pretty much anything, providing it was with Rory. He stretched as he looked out of the window, before putting an arm around Rory to draw her close to him, resting his head sleepily on top of hers.
"I like this," he commented to her after a few moments, smiling faintly. "Just sittin' here like this." Of course, barely a few minutes passed before he felt the carriage stop, Phoenix rolling his eyes playfully and shuffling to sit up properly. Well, let's go," he smiled to her, grabbing their supplies as well as everything she'd brought from the tower, before opening the carriage door and peering out into the lamp-lit streets. "I take we're here?" he smirked up into the darkness, obviously talking to Kevay. He didn't wait for an answer before climbing out of the carriage, taking a second to put the gauntlet back on before offering his hand to Rory to help her out.

”I didn‘t want to wake you. I thought that you would probably need it after travelling for far t find me.” She explained to him, as though to say that she didn‘t mind that he had drifted off. As long as he was there she really didn‘t mind if he was sleeping or awake. Well, she would obviously prefer awake, but sleeping Phoenix was better than none at all. “Kevay says that he couldn‘t see the tower in the distance any more when it got dark, and with how tall the tower was that must mean that there is a decent distance between here and there.” She assured him, letting the curtain drop back over the curtain to block the darkness out again. Rory wasn‘t a fan of the dark.
She curled up close to him as he put his arm around her, closing her eyes as he leant his head on top of hers. “This is nice.” She agreed quietly, as though afraid that speaking too loudly would ruin the moment. Their peace couldn‘t, of course, last very long. Too soon the carriage had trundled to a stop, the princess sighing as she moved to sit up, stretching out before moving to shuffle out of the carriage, taking his hand to step elegantly from the carriage.
Kevay wasn‘t nearly as elegant. He leapt down from the drivers seat, filled with energy after so long sat up there on his own (well, mostly alone, he‘s picked up a traveller for a couple of miles, and she had been interesting). He paid a stable boy to take care of their carriage and horses before bounding over to Phoenix. He flashed Rory a smile that made her glad that she was holding onto Phoenix‘s hand so that he could keep her on her feet before he ruffled Phoenix‘s hair up. “C‘mon. We can go to the posh inn, as a treat? And we can get a nice dinner? And…I should leave you two alone to have dinner?” He asked, pouting at them. Kevay wasn‘t used to being a third wheel. Phoenix had to step to the side to prevent Kevay from landing on him as he leapt down from the carriage, smirking and rolling his eyes. He instinctively moved closer to Rory as he flashed her that cupid-worthy smile of his, narrowing his eyes playfully at Kevay and cursing as he ruffled up his hair. "Someone's excitable," he commented, arching an eyebrow at the mention of posh inns and fancy dinners and all the things that Phoenix had done his best to avoid since becoming a noble of sorts. Just this once, though, he thought that he could make an exception. He smiled faintly as the stable boy took their carriage and the horses, handing Kevay the sack of supplies while he picked up the rest of Rory's things, his other hand securely in the princess's.
He laughed lightly as Kevay suggested he leave he and Rory alone for dinner, shaking his head a little. "As long as Rory doesn't mind, I'd not leave you in the lurch," he promised, giving Rory's hand a squeeze. Kevay was his best friend, and cupid or not, it would be nice if he and Rory got to know each other a little (preferably not as well as Kevay would like, but that was a given). He led them down the street to the inn in the main square, looking up at the coat of arms on its sign. "This seems to be the best place," he nodded as he moved inside, smiling to himself at the upper-middle class patrons sitting downstairs. No matter how many times Phoenix walked into places like this, he didn't think he'd ever feel like he was supposed to be there.
He moved to get them a room, smiling as someone moved to take their things (something else he wasn't used to) and handed them two keys since he didn't think Rory would feel too comfortable with the chance of Kevay walking in on her while she was getting dressed... hell, she barely felt comfortable with Phoenix. It was also suggested that they have something to eat before retiring to bed, as there was an excellent selection of meats and wines available. Phoenix couldn't lie... he preferred the rough taverns he was used to. But still, as Kevay had said, it was a treat. "Order anything," he smiled to them both. "Not like I ain't got money to burn."

”I got lonely.” Kevay admitted to Phoenix before huffing and rubbing at his bum. “The drivers seat ain‘t all that comfortable, dunno why anyone would want to be there. My bum‘s gone to sleep.” He complained, not seeming to realise that he should probably mind what he was saying while Rory was around. She was a Princess, he should really try not to be too vulgar in front of her but…he slipped up sometimes. He‘d not said anything too bad, at least. He could have launched into a list of the good points of sex in the sables, and the bad points of getting caught with your trousers around your ankles, but that really wasn‘t appropriate in front of any woman, never mind a Princess.
Rory was doing her best to ignore Kevay, bushing faintly as her gaze roamed over their surroundings, blocking out both the irresistible cupid and anything that he might be saying. She had forgotten how much she liked travelling and visiting new places. She almost felt like she should be wearing her hood though, and looking out for anyone who might recognise her. He town wasn‘t large, but it was quaint and pretty, though slightly run down. She looked back around as she realised that they were talking to her, tilting her head to the side. “Sorry, I was distracted.” She apologised before smiling to Kevay, avoiding looking at his face. “It would be lovely if you could join us for dinner.” She nodded, her thoughts along the same lines as Phoenix‘s. Kevay was Phoenix‘s best friend, she wouldn‘t just leave him out in the cold.
“Perfect.” Kevay smiled brightly to Rory, a skip in his step as he walked along beside them, walking on the other side of the knight to make sure that he didn‘t make Rory too dizzy. “Yeah, this is the best place.” He agreed, sweeping inside, smiling to himself. He, like Rory, was actually enjoying being in a new town, it was nice to be around new people for a while, though he was missing Lexie. He showed off a little as he ordered food and wine, Rory merely nodding in agreement. She was happy to go along with anything that they wanted.

While Phoenix wasn't nearly as excitable about being in a new town as Kevay and Rory were, he was in a good mood, all things considered. He had Rory back, he didn't think that he could possibly be in a better mood right now. Though he did look rather longingly at the bottles of wine as Kevay ordered them, looking forward to their meal just because of those. It had been forever (in Phoenix's mind) since he'd gotten his hands on a drink. He didn't particularly want Rory to know about his little coping habits. She'd dealt with that enough before they'd been separated. The knight sighed lightly as he led them to a table near the fireplace while their food was prepared. He supposed you really did turn into your father after all, no matter how much you tried to stop it.
Phoenix brushed his thoughts away as they reached the table, drawing out a chair for Rory to sit down, finally slipping his hand out of the princess's, albeit reluctantly. Once she was seated, he moved to leave. "I'll be right back. Fed up of this armour," he commented to them both, throwing Kevay a look that said that he'd punch him in the face if the cupid seduced his fiancée while he was gone, before he swept up the stairs to their bedrooms. The food had arrived by the time he returned, but Phoenix looked - and felt - much more like himself by this point. The armour had been replaced by the same style of clothing he'd have usually worn in the slums of Cressa, but obviously of better quality.
He smiled to Kevay and Rory as he sank down in his seat at last, unconsciously uncorking a bottle of wine and pouring himself a glass without even thinking about it. "I keep expecting to wake up," he smirked to himself. "Because this can't be real."

Rory smiled to Phoenix as he drew the chair out for her, sitting down, smoothing her skirts out once she was sat, glancing up at Phoenix as he said that he was going, looking half panicked. She nodded to him slowly, looking down to fiddle with the ring on her finger. Kevay seemed almost amused by how nervous she suddenly was. Then again, after everything that the pair of them had been through she was probably sat worrying that something would happen to one of them while they were apart, they didn't tend to have the best of luck. "Hey, don't worry, wild horses couldn't drag him away from you right now. Trust me." He nodded to her, stopping himself before he gave her one of his trademark smiles; he wasn't allowed to charm Rory...he had to remember that.
Both of them waited for Phoenix to come back before starting the meal, Kevay had even, somehow, stopped himself from opening the wine. He had ordered quite a lot, he realised, and something gave him the impression that Phoenix wouldn't want Rory knowing about his little drinking habit. In all honesty, he shouldn't be drinking either, but it was a celebration and...well...what Lexie didn't know wouldn't hurt her. He nudged his glass towards Phoenix as he uncorked the wine before starting to pick at his food, leaving Phoenix and Rory to talk.
Rory had relaxed again when the knight returned, smiling to him as he took his seat. He looked more like himself with the armour, she still couldn't quite get used seeing him in clothes like these. Nobility actually quite suited Phoenix. "Well, if this is a dream I hope that neither of us wake up any time soon." She murmured, Kevay smirking sneakily as they spoke, leaning over to pinch Phoenix's arm. "Feel that? If you did, it's real, and you're not gonna wake up. I don't know about yu two, but I feel pretty real."

Phoenix smirked as Kevay nudged his glass towards him, watching him knowingly for a moment before filling his glass. He was right; it was time to celebrate, and one little glass of wine couldn't be so bad for the cupid. Not in Phoenix's eyes anyway (but then again he wasn't exactly the best role-model when it came to self-control). The knight turned his attention away from Kevay and back to Rory when he was finished, smiling to her lightly. "Me neither," he agreed with her, jumping a little as Kevay pinched him. "Ow!" He pouted over at him, though he at least realised why he'd done it. "I suppose I'm awake. Thanks," he narrowed his eyes, smirking playfully. By now he had realised how hungry he was, picking up his knife and fork and falling silent to eat.
The evening passed in a comfortable, happy blur for Phoenix, the knight resting back in his seat as their plates were taken away, his third glass of wine in hand and the light of the fire playing off his red hair. He couldn't keep the smile off his face (half because of the events of that day and half because of the wine). He sighed contently, sitting up a little and moving to rest his hand over Rory's, seeming surprised, in a way, that someone hadn't burst into the inn and messed everything up for them. That's how things usually worked for them. But no, today things had been perfect. The ring on Rory's finger only served to prove that, Phoenix's gaze flickering between the ring and the princess's lovely face.
He yawned after a long while, turning his gaze back to Kevay as if having just realised how tired he was. "I think I'm gonna head up to bed," he told him softly, rising to his feet again and offering Rory his hand. "I got us two rooms; you're just across the corridor from us," he told the cupid, before glancing to Rory and lowering his voice a little. "Unless you want to take Kevay's room. The one I got for us has two beds anyway, so it doesn't matter," he murmured.

One glass one wine wouldn't hurt, even if it might turn into two, or three…perhaps a bottle or more. Kevay wasn't exactly a poster boy for self control either. In fact, he had none, not even a scrap, he relied on other people being around to control him (mainly Lexie) and without that support he was doomed. He picked up the glass, smiling over the rim of it innocently to Phoenix as he glared at him before sipping at his drink. Rory laughed lightly at the pair of them, shaking her head a little. No, she couldn't even imagine the kind of trouble that these two would have been getting themselves into over the past few months.
Conversation had been friendly and mainly inconsequential, skirting around any major issues rather easily. Rory had managed to move her glass every time just before Kevay could top it up (she had the feeling that the cupid was trying to get her drunk), sipping at the wine slowly, unlike Kevay, who had already had a whole bottle to himself, though he still seemed put together enough. The meal had been delicious, and the company was amazing, together making for a perfect evening, in Rory's opinion anyway. Kevay could have thought of a few improvements that he would make, but with present company he was on his very best behaviour. He hadn't seduced the waitress over to the table, though at one point he had flashed her a gorgeous smile, which had caused her to drop her tray.
"Bed sounds good, we still have a lot of travelling to do." Kevay nodded, rising to his feet and stretching out, smirking as Phoenix asked Rory where she wanted to sleep. "She can have my room, I am sure that there is enough room in the bed for the both of us." He gave her a dashing smile, causing Rory to blush and swiftly avert her gaze, taking Phoenix's hand as she rose to her feet. "Your room will be fine, Phoenix." She murmured, nodding a little, glancing up at him. She didn't think that she would sleep for worrying if they had separate rooms. She didn't think that she would be able to stand being away from him, not for a little while at least. Their time apart had been hard on them both.

"I'm sure there will be. I wonder if there'll be enough room for all three of us, Kevay?" Phoenix smirked across at the cupid. "'Cause the only way you and Rory are gettin' in bed together is if I'm there too," he folded his arms for a moment, before taking Rory's hand again. "You enjoy your nice single bedroom, Kevay. I'll call you for breakfast tomorrow mornin'," he told the cupid, before turning to lead his princess out and away from the table. He bid the barman goodnight and headed upstairs to the bedrooms he'd paid for (someone had given them the keys when their food had arrived), smiling over his shoulder to Rory. "Sorry about him. He ain't gonna get any less... Kevay-ish, so it's best if I just knock his lights out once and then maybe he'll tone down," he shook his head.
He led them down the corridor, taking out the key to unlock the door to their room, sweeping inside and sighing. It was pleasantly lit inside the room; someone had started a fire and their belongings were stacked neatly by the side of one of the beds. Phoenix had gotten two, as promised, since he knew Rory was still pretty conservative, especially when it came to sleeping arrangements. He kissed her cheek and shut the door, stretching and smiling to himself. "It's nice... just me and you," he commented softly. "Kevay's like my best friend... but that don't mean I want him around all the time, 'specially if all he's gonna do is try and flirt with you," he smiled.
He let go of her hand to head behind a screen to change; usually Phoenix wouldn't be nearly as modest, but his time living it up as a noble had at least taught him a few habits. He'd better be careful lest he risk losing himself entirely. He appeared again a few minutes later, having unwound his plait and taken off his shirt, belt and shoes, depositing them on a table where he'd also put his armour. He stretched mightily; days and days of riding to find Rory had tensed all his muscles, the knight yawning again and smiling across at her. "How are you? Was everything all right? I mean, all this happened so quickly, I haven't really stopped to check if you're okay with all of this," he laughed, rubbing at the back of his head.
