She smiled at the word home, relaxing as he spoke. He had found somewhere to settle down, she was happy for him. They had spent so long on the run that it was nice that he finally had somewhere where he was safe. “Of course I don‘t mind going there, I want to see this town of yours.” She nodded to him, her smile refusing to fade away. She was so happy she thought her heart might burst from it all, she doubted that her smile was going to go away any time soon. “Chemin Vert, even the name sounds pretty. I can‘t wait to see it.” She murmured, not really needing to raise her voice because they were so close.
She tilted her head at him as she felt the slight shift in his mood, looking bemused by it. “You‘re not going to lose me again.” She assured him, sounding bemused by his comments. He had a friend that he wanted her to meet, but he didn‘t want her to look at him because he was worried he would lose her? And this reference to a love drunk cupid? How odd; Phoenix was full of mystery sometimes. “I promise that I will sit at the other side of the room, and not look at him, if that‘s what you want.” She nodded; if that was what he wanted then that was what he wanted to do.
The Princess was content to just sit and listen to him talk as they rode back to Angouleme. It was nice to hear about his life, nice just to hear his voice. She could have just sat there and listened to him all day without growing bored. Phoenix was there, that was all that mattered to her. Plus, she would rather listen to him talk than him ask about what she had been doing; in all honesty, she didn‘t have very much to say.
Rory took her mittens off again as they reached the inn, tucking them in her pockets before letting Phoenix help her down from the horse, her hand automatically moving back into his as he walked her inside. “You are being really vague about this friend of yours.” She told him with a half smile, shaking her head at him. “I get the feeling you‘re nervous about me meeting him.” She added with a light laugh, nudging him a little, as though to tell him that he was being silly.
“Oh the floor?” She glanced over at the man sprawled out on the floor, before remembering her promise to Phoenix and looking away again, sinking down to sit on the chair, folding her hands in her lap, gazing over in the opposite direction as she waited for Phoenix.
Kevay grinned up at Phoenix brightly as he appeared above him, flailing up at him. “You found her, you found her!” He cheered (not caring who heard) before laughing again as he nudged him with his foot. “I want to meet her! I want to see this princess of yours, but I don‘t think I can stand up. The world is spinning and everything is so bright. I feel like I‘m drunk, but I swear I‘ve not touched a drop!”

"Oh, it's not that I don't want you to meet him, I promise," Phoenix flashed her a grin as they moved into the inn. "It's just that I don't want him to meet you. Like I said, you'll see soon enough," he promised. The knight was smiling across at Rory, unable to keep his attention on anything else for very long, even when Kevay cheered to him. "I did find her," he agreed with a smirk as he looked down at the cupid, his hands still on his hips. He tilted his head as Kevay continued to talk, laughing to himself and leaning down to hoist him to his feet; Phoenix was in far too good a mood to let anything at all bother him right now. "I bet you have, you liar," he grinned playfully, keeping his hands on his friend's shoulders to prevent him toppling over.
"You're an idiot. You're drunk on your own idiocy," he supplied for Kevay, still seeming particularly reluctant to let the cupid meet his princess and his new fiancée, since he didn't move any closer to where Rory was sitting whatsoever, he merely pointed her out to him. "There, that's my princess," he introduced Kevay from the other side of the room. "She's amazin' and gorgeous and we're engaged and she's mine," he told him, his voice still as cheerful as ever, but the warning was clear. Not that Phoenix ever though that his friend would ever try to be that way with Rory (he'd soon be dead if he did try anything), but he would like to spend just a few minutes more letting Rory keep her wits before he went and sprung the cupid on her.

”You don‘t want him to meet me?” She arched an eyebrow at that comment, glancing down at herself; was she that bad? She may have been locked in the tower for a long while, and she may have given up on pretty much everything, but did she look that bad? Phoenix was being really weird about this friend of his, she had no idea what to expect here. From Phoenix‘s grin, however, she was going to assume that it really wasn‘t her that was the problem. This friend of his must be quite a character, then again, all of Phoenix‘s friend’s had big personalities, just like him.
“Nah ah! I don‘t lie! Well…not to you…often.” He flashed Phoenix a bright smile before laughing. “Love drunk! I‘m love drunk and it‘s your fault.” He told him, poking his tongue out at him before suddenly moving to tug Phoenix into a hug. “You‘re happy, I‘m so happy for you.” He informed him before promptly releasing him as he pointed out his princess. He spun around, gaze finding her immediately. Who else could it have been? She was gorgeous, and she was surrounded by the same feelings as Phoenix. He could have found her with his eyes shut. “She‘s just like you said. She‘s a real Princess!” He exclaimed as he turned back around to Phoenix, the cupid practically glowing again. “Engaged? You‘re engaged! That‘s amazing!” He flailed, hugging Phoenix again before moving to sweep across the room. Well, if they were engaged he was going to have to introduce himself properly. "You do, you liar. You lie to me all the time. You lied about your promise not to find Rory. So yeah, it's all my fau--ahhhh!" Phoenix flailed as he was suddenly pulled into a hug, arching an eyebrow down at Kevay as if wondering whether it would be a good idea to peel the cupid off him right now, or whether it would be better just to let him hug him for fear that he'd fall over otherwise. "Duh, 'course she's a real princess. I'm not gonna go around finding fake princesses am I?" he smirked, feeling rather dizzy himself thanks to Kevay's hyperactivity. "Yeah, we're engaged. I'm such a Don Juan I just couldn't wait any longer beforeaaahhhhKevayquitit!" he laughed to himself as he got hugged, yet again, seeming bemused as he suddenly let him go again, sweeping his bangs out of his face.
Before Phoenix knew it, Kevay was gone and making his way over to Rory. "Nooooooo!" he called, catching him by the back of the shirt so he ended up being dragged across the room with him. They must have been quite a sight; a cupid marching across a tavern with a knight clinging to the back of him, being dragged along the way. "Fine, fine!" the knight grumbled eventually, pulling Kevay to a halt and straightening up, sighing heavily. "Fine," he repeated, "but I'm warning you now," he pouted, putting a hand on Kevay's shoulder to lead him across the tavern, looking defeated. He smiled faintly to Rory as they arrived, taking a deep breath before looking to Kevay.
"Kevay, Rory. Rory, this is Kevay. If you don't wanna marry me any more, I totally understand. Though I will have to kill him for it, unfortunately..." he muttered.

They were receiving quite a few stares, and that was before Kevay had tried to march across the room with Phoenix attached to the back of his shirt. Kevay was so excitable and hyperactive that it was impossible not to notice him, and it didn‘t help that he seemed more and more gorgeous the happier he got. “White lies. I tell little while lies now and again, but never real huge lies…not to you anyway.” He winked back over his shoulder at Phoenix, smirking as it was confirmed that she a real princess. The first real princess that he had ever met ever, and she didn‘t disappoint. Aw, it was such a shame that Phoneic had already put a ring on her finger. It wouldn‘t have mattered to him if it were anyone else, but his best friend‘s woman. His best friend‘s woman who he had been pining after for months and had only just been reunited with her. Phoenix would actually murder him, horribly. He would really rather not be murdered, he was going to have to behave himself.
He sighed as he was pulled to a half, pouting as he turned to look at the knight. “I‘m on my best behaviour.” He promised, crossing his heart, as though that made his promise all the more serious. He took a moment to straighten his clothes out and fuss over his hair before he was lead over to where Rory was sat, offering her a charming smile as he was introduced. He was amazed that she had managed to stay looking the other way all that time while they had been making such a fuss. However, when she looked up at him, with those blue eyes, he was pretty sure that she had almost stolen his heart. Oh dear, this was going to be difficult. “Pleasure to meet you, Rory.” He swept into a small bow before offering her his hand.
Aurora looked dazed as she looked up at Kevay, barely hearing what Phoenix had said after their names. She smiled prettily to the cupid, taking his hand to let him kiss the back of it. She was blushing faintly as she dragged her gaze away from Kevay to look over at Phoenix, tilting her head to the side. “I feel…strange. All…giggly.” She murmured, not at all understanding why she felt so strange.
“Sorry.” Kevay mumbled, taking a deep breath, as though to calm himself down and try to stop himself from affection Rory so much. He even took a step back, hoping that a bit of distance between them would help.

Rory had reacted to Kevay exactly how he had imagined she would. His princess was much too shy and mild-natured to throw herself at the cupid like so many other women would have, and she'd managed not to faint. He was impressed... but still apprehensive. He sighed heavily, rubbing at his forehead and clipping Kevay around the head as he swept into a bow, as if to tell him that this sooooo wasn't how he was supposed to behave himself. "Yeah. He'll do that," Phoenix mumbled as Rory said she felt strange, seeming surprised that she'd been able to drag her attention away from Kevay one bit and look at him. "I'd say you'd get used to it... but you really won't. Kevay's different. He's got this thing where he's annoyingly irresistible. He also has a habit of taking what doesn't belong to him," he narrowed his eyes at the cupid on purpose now.
While Phoenix was, admittedly, relieved as his friend stepped away from the princess, he was dubious as to whether it would help in the slightest. "We'd better get ready to head back," he murmured, as if to change the subject and steer everyone's attention away from... well, each other. "Kevay, can you see if we can get a carriage for Rory? It's a long journey for her to make on horse-back," he murmured, drumming his fingers along the hilt of the sabre at his hip without realising he was doing it. "I'll get supplies and stuff ready. We'd better move quick, I dunno when Chris is gonna come around and start pokin' his nose in all over the place. I want outta here by the time he starts thinkin' for himself again."

Rory had absently reached out for Phoenix‘s hand as she rose to her feet, shuffling a little closer to her thief. She wasn‘t quite sure that she liked feeling so light headed and giddy. Her gaze returned to Kevay, the cupid smiling to her weakly, holding his hands up, as though to say that he couldn‘t help it. He was irresistible, he just couldn‘t help it. “Oh…” She murmured back to Phoenix, blushing a little more, diverting her gaze to the floor. The more she looked at Kevay the more she wanted to do something very inappropriate, so she was going to have to try to just…not look at him. “Irresistible? Yes, I can see that, is that why you didn‘t want him to meet me?” She asked with a light laugh, shaking her head, looking up at Phoenix again, giving his hand a small squeeze.
Kevay seemed to realise that Phoenix wasn‘t too happy with him (it was a little obvious), rubbing at the back of his head. “I never took anything from you.” He pointed out with a pout, folding his arms over his chest. He was a cupid! He wasn‘t meaning to make Rory all in love with him…well…not much. It was nice to know that a Princess still found him devilishly handsome, though he was almost disappointed that she had so much self control. “Carriage? Yeah, I can get a carriage. I‘ll ride along side or something, you two need time to talk…and…stuff,” He nodded flashing Phoenix an apologetic smile before he passed the room key to him and turned to shuffle off out of the inn.
“We should have a little while before Chris realises that we tricked him.” Rory nodded to Phoenix, smiling to him faintly, reaching out to take his other hand to stop him drumming his fingers like that. “You‘re annoyed? Don‘t be annoyed…” She sighed lightly, letting go of one of his hands so that she could run her fingers through her hair. “I‘ll come supply shopping with you, and I wouldn‘t have minded riding. We‘ve ridden further before…”

Phoenix sighed to himself, looking rather guilty as Kevay smiled at him and left, looking at the room key in his hand before slipping it into his pocket and turning to look back at Rory. "Kind of exactly why I didn't want him to meet you," he nodded to her, looking down at her hand in his and brushing his hair back from his face. Well, he felt like an idiot. But it was hard to separate the feeling of wanting his best friend to meet his new fiancée from the jealousy writhing around in his stomach. He'd only just found Rory again, and he knew that Kevay was a cupid, and that despite all of his best intentions he had very little self control... so he was feeling a little protective right now.
"Hmm...?" Phoenix was drawn out of his thoughts as Rory took his other hand, looking down at her and sighing again. "I'm not annoyed... Sorry. It's just... it hasn't been easy, getting this far..." he murmured to her quietly, putting a hand on her cheek and leaning forward to place a gentle kiss on her forehead. "Sure... let's go," he nodded at the suggestion of going and getting supplies together, putting an arm around her as he led them out of the tavern, pointedly ignoring the looks of all the other people as they left. "If we ride you'll probably fall off your horse with Kevay riding next to us," he pointed out with a faint smirk as they headed off down the street; the town was thriving now, full of people. "Besides, no fiancée of mine is sitting on some horse when she could be riding in a carriage," he informed her, failing to wipe the smug look off his face as he reminded himself of what Rory was to him now.
Getting supplies hadn't taken very long, Phoenix returning to the tavern with Rory in just under an hour, one arm still around the princess while the other was carrying a sack full of all the things they needed. "Now where's Kevay..." he mused to himself. He hoped he hadn't scared the cupid off or anything.

It didn‘t take much to work out that the past few months had been difficult for Phoenix, she couldn‘t even begin to imagine what he had been through in the past few months. He hadn‘t been in the best of states when she had left him, and she could only imagine that things had gone downhill from there. “It‘s okay, really. I don‘t know what you‘ve been through, but I know that it can‘t have been easy. I‘m here for you though, you know, no matter what. You can talk to me.” She smiled to him, closing her eyes briefly as he let his hand rest on her cheek, taking a moment to enjoy the touch. “You really don‘t have to worry about Kevay either.” She promised him as he kissed her forehead. “He may be irresistible, but I don‘t want him. I‘ll just have to find a way not to feel all light headed when he is around.” She shrugged, as though it would be that easy. It seemed like Phoenix had enough on his plate without having to worry about Kevay stealing her heart.
“Oh, good point. I’d rather not fall from my horse.” She agreed with a light laugh, glad that he seemed to have cheered up a little. A smile touched to her lips at his next comment. ’No fiancée of his‘, she couldn’t hear that enough times. She couldn’t help but smile every time he said it, and every time that she caught a glance of her ring. “Well, if I am riding in a carriage then you will have to stay with me, otherwise I would be terribly lonely.” She nodded to him as they headed out of the inn. “I’d rather risk falling from my horse if you weren’t going to ride in the carriage with me.”
Supplies shopping was blissfully uneventful, it had been nice to just wander around town with Phoenix. Angouem was a rather pretty little place really, and it was nice to be somewhere and not be constantly looking over their shoulders to make sure that they weren‘t being followed. Well, technically they should be checking, Chris could come charging after them at any moment, but she doubted that he would have the courage to do that, not yet. “He‘s there.” She nodded over to the table by the fireplace, where Kevay was sat with a brunette in his lap, whispering into her ear. Well, he moved on quick.

Phoenix smiled down at Rory, but made no comment about riding in the carriage or anything else like that. He didn't want to abandon either Rory or Kevay, so he'd decided he'd figure that much out later. He couldn't help but smile again when she assured him that she didn't want Kevay, obviously reassured by that since he tugged her a little closer as they walked. "I will talk to you," he assured her with a nod. "Just not right now. We've gotta get back to Chemin Vert before that," he winked to her, following her gaze over to the fireplace where Kevay was sat and laughing to himself. If there was anything that could have made Phoenix feel better, then that was it.
"Yeah... you'll get used to this eventually," he assured Rory, leading them over to the table by the fireplace, his arm moving from around the princess so he could hold her hand instead, Phoenix leaning down next to Kevay to rest a hand on his shoulder. "Hey, sorry to cut you short, man, but we gotta go," he told him quietly, feeling kind of guilty for interrupting the cupid while he was in seduction mode. But they had lingered in the town for long enough, and he'd be surprised if Chris wasn't lurking around there, waiting for them. "Did you manage to get the carriage sorted?" he asked, straightening up again just in case his intervention really wasn't appreciated.

”Get used to this? He does this often?” She arched an eyebrow at him, glancing back over at Kevay. No, actually, she wasn‘t all that surprised when she thought about it. Kevay was irresistible, and from how reluctant Phoenix has been for them to meet then this must happen all the time. She scowled faintly, glancing up at Phoenix. From the months after Miles death Rory knew just how…charming Phoenix could be, and if he was around someone like Kevay then it would turn into a sort of game. No…no, she didn‘t want to think about that. She couldn‘t be jealous of something that he had done when she hadn‘t been around. No, she really didn‘t want to think about that, nor did she want to think about the dark times afte Miles‘ death.
Kevay glanced up as Phoenix put a hand on his shoulder, flashing him a mischievous smile. “Gotta go? You‘re kidding? I can‘t have like…ten minutes?” He glanced at the women, who nodded to him vaguely, as though to say that would be plenty long enough. “Yeah, ten minutes? C‘mon Phoenix?” He smiled to him hopefully, his gaze flickering to Rory for just a split second (the Princess didn‘t look so impressed by him right now) before looking back to the knight. “Got the carriage. It‘s outside. Our horses are tethered to it. Figured one of us could drive and the other could sit in the carriage? See, I‘m a genius, now does that mean I get ten more minutes?”

"Very often. He's a dirty whore; stay away from him or you might catch something," he commented to Rory with a playful smile, tilting his head at Kevay's response. He couldn't help but laugh (inwardly feeling even more smug at the not-so-impressed look on Rory's face), eventually nodding and rising to his feet. "Fine, Mr. 'Genius'. But you're drivin' first, and I don't care how chafed you might be feelin', you're not getting out of it," he commented with a smirk. "Ten minutes. We'll be outside in the carriage waitin' for you," he warned, shaking his head and turning to lead Rory around and back outside, putting his arm around her again. "Sorry about him. Like I said... you'll get used to it," he murmured, glancing down at her.
"He's not... well, yeah, he is pretty much always like this. But we took care of each other. He's prob'ly one of the only friends I got any more," he shrugged his shoulders, glancing around once they were outside and smiling as he spotted the carriage with their horses tethered to it. "At least he'll be happy enough to drive for now," he murmured to himself, walking them over to the carriage and opening the door, helping Rory inside. He checked their horses over before moving to climb inside after her, shutting the doors again and sighing. A smile began to twitch at the corners of his mouth as he glanced over to the princess, leaning over to kiss her cheek.
"I think I'm still in shock..." he admitted with a laugh. "I didn't think I'd actually find you..."

”She wouldn‘t catch anything from me.” Kevay huffed to Phoenix, as though offended by that comment, though it didn‘t stop him giving Phoenix a rather dirty smirk as he told him that he could have his ten minutes. He practically picked the woman up as he rose to his feet, his arm wrapped around her waist. He didn‘t even bother asking for the room key before he swept off with his woman, the pair of them practically stumbling out of the room to go find somewhere semi private and close by. Rory tilted her head and raised an eyebrow as she watched them go, shaking her head once they were out of the room. “He‘s like a whirlwind…” She commented quietly before shrugging it off. Oh well, as long as he had looked after Phoenix then he couldn‘t be so bad.
“I‘m glad that you had someone, and that you weren‘t on your own.” She smiled to him as he lead her back outside. She helped him put their things into the carriage before climbing inside, settling down on the seat, shuffling up to make sure that there was enough room for Phoenix to sit with her. It felt good to be alone with him, everything today had happened so quickly. One minute she had been locked away alone in her room and the next they were sat there, in the carriage, on their way home. Home, that sounded pretty good too.
“Everything has happened really quickly. I think I‘m still trying to believe it.” She admitted to him, brushing her hair back over her shoulder. She looked up at him so that she could study his face, as though memorising his features and reminding herself what he looked like. She couldn‘t believe that she had almost forgotten what he looked like. “You seem too good to be true, I‘m scared that I might be dreaming again.”

"I'm glad too. I wouldn't have lasted long on my own," he admitted with a faint smile, seeming rather ashamed as he thought about how he and Kevay had met and the circumstances surrounding it. He had come so far since then (well... he hadn't, he still drank the same amount, but at least Rory was with him now). He smiled as he realised she was looking up at him, tilting his head and looking rather entertained. "You've always seemed too good to be true to me, Rory..." he murmured to her softly, shrugging as if there wasn't much he could say other than that. "I always thought I was dreamin', even when we were just sittin' around at the inn in the slums... didn't think someone like you could happen to someone like me..."
He leant down all of a sudden to catch her lips in a kiss, his arms moving around her to draw her close. There didn't seem to be anything left for him to say, so what more could he do? He didn't even seem to remember how shy she had been the last time. Like she had said, it had all happened so fast, the whole thing felt like it had happened to someone else. By the time Phoenix finally pulled away from her, he had half lifted her onto his lap, one arm securely around her waist and the other resting on her leg. He smiled rather sheepishly. "Too much, you think? Haven't even taken you on a date, officially," he chuckled.

”Someone like me?” She smiled faintly at that comment, though she shook her head a little. Phoenix was amazing, well, he was in her eyes. He was handsome, brave, kind, gentle…everything that anyone could ever want. In her eyes Phoenix could be one of those knights out of a book, who swept in, saved the Princess and then stole their hearts and they lived happily ever after. Well, her happily ever after hadn‘t really gone like it had in the story books, but she could hope now. They were engaged, they were sat in a carriage waiting to be swept off into the sunset. Well, not sunset because it was the middle of the day, but Chemin Vert sounded beautiful, it sounded like the perfect place for a new start.
Her thoughts, however, were cut short as he suddenly leant over to kiss her, the princess smiling against his lips as she kissed him back. One of her hands found it‘s way to the back of his neck, tangling her fingers in the back of his hair without even thinking about it. Her eyes were closed, her shyness taking a while to catch up with what was happening, and by the time she realised how close they were she really had no intentions of moving back again. Rory was blushing brightly as he drew back, left rather breathless, the princess glancing down away from him, as though to try to hide how red her cheeks were. “I like us being close…it‘s just…I‘m not used to it. I‘m shy.” She murmured to him, gently resting her hand on top of his on her leg. “You‘ve taken me plenty of places.” She smiled, glancing up at him.
