"I have bunches," Alexia insisted. "My mommy has a friend that makes them."
Enelya had a disturbing thought just then. A noble had been injured badly, assassinated, a week ago... His last name had been Tannon. Alexia Tannon. Aaron Tannon. And his wife Ally... Her eyes flew open in surprise. Then she tried to relax a little. There could be other families named Tannon, she shouldn't overreact, and certainly not around this man, whatever or whoever he was. She looked at Alexia. The noble had been said to have dark, curly, shoulder-length hair and chocolate eyes. Alexia's eyes were dark green, but her hair was dark and curly. Her clothes were refined, too... Though they were mere traveling clothes, the durable cloth was still designed beautifully. And her traveling boots looked new. Enelya felt a shiver crawl up her spine. She was going to kill her employer. Whether that statement was to be taken literally or not was a complete mystery.

"Well...," Kamui said slowly, "All right... I guess I'll have one of the orange ones. How 'bout the 'crazy-shot-marble'?" He held up the marble that had ricocheted around the room and hit him in the side. "Though I'm sorry I don't have anythin' ta' give you in return... I used ta' have a few unicorn tears awhile back, but I gave 'em away... Hm?" He gave Enelya a casual glance, a perceptive mind veiled by his simple expression, "Somethin' wrong?"

"No," Enelya answered shortly, closing her eyes again. Alexia looked at Enelya, then back at Kamui.
"Unicorn tears?" she asked. "I've never seen a unicorn before. My daddy has."
'Has'... She hadn't used past tense. That was a good sign, Enelya thought.
"I want to see a dragon," Alexia continued. "Or a fairy." She yawned, stretched, and itched Yibbles's back.

"All right," Kamui mumbled and shrugged, turning back to Alexia. "Yeah, unicorn tear. When they cry, which is a rare event, their tears harden into diamonds. Beautiful an' very rare, possessin' magical properties, they are extremely valuable. 'Though I doubt a child such as herself would care much for monetary gain, which is precisely why I'd given her one' "Such beautiful creatures, unicorns are. Far more then a mere horse with a horn. So pure they are, I cannot even touch one merely because of the d-- Well, heh, as for dragons an' faeries? I've traveled far an' wide for a long time now, an' have encountered both." He noted Alexia's yawn. It was probably well past sunset by now. "Why don't ya' snuggle up with Yibbles on your bed there an' lemme tell ya' a tale from my journeys? I can tell ya' about dragons, faeries, or anythin' else ya' wanna know about."

Alexia gasped and lied down on the floor obediently, snuggling Yibbles against her chest with his little head under her chin, but not on his ears so that he could hear the stories, too. "I want to know about faeries, Kamoo," she said, almost as if she was in a world of complete bliss.
Enelya opened one eye (as she seemed to be doing a lot lately) and surveyed Kamui. Why, he appeared too young to know of such adventures! He surely must be lying. No, he seemed like one of those pure-hearted fools. But it probably wouldn't go against his honor code to create stories for the sake of children's entertainment. She decided on that and closed her eye again.

He sat cross-legged on the floor. "Okay, faeries, huh? Well, legends say that they can never grow old or get sick, that they outlive even the elves, for they cannot die but through injury alone. They are as beautiful and graceful as the Elves, except on a miniature scale in their true forms, but just as gifted as magic, if not more so. Some say the first of them were born directly from the wellsprings of magic at the birth of the world. But who knows the truth save the faeries themselves?" He shrugged. "In any case, lemme tell ya' about this one time I was walking through Win Dain Forest, which is a good many miles from here. I was minding my own business when I heard a voice. I looked down and there, lounging on a toadstool, was a beautiful woman with long brown hair and eyes, wearing a wreath of red flowers and a flower petal dress. On her back were delicate transparent wings. Now, I was much younger at the time, just a wee fifty years old, while she could have been thousands. I had never seen a faerie before that point an' was merely curious... heh heh, but I think I got a little too close for her likin', 'cuz there was a loud crack an' the next thing I knew, I was dumped into the waters of the Segalend Sea. On the winds, I coulda sworn I heard a faint voice that said somethin' ta' the effect of 'Thou shalt cool off, little perverted ympe...', "ympe" bein' an old word for "imp", further proof of her age."
(Sorry I took so long to reply...)

"Wow!" Alexia said, exasperated. "So they're real? Tiny, pretty ladies with wings and magic?" Her eyes were wide. "Fifty years old? I hope I live long enough to see a faerie."
Enelya had listened to the story, though she did not open her eyes to reveal her interest. In a different universe, where Drow were not evil and evil things had not been done to her, she might have ventured the world herself, seeing faeries and witnessing, in awe, their beauty and wonder... She shook all thoughts from her head. That wasn't how things were. What did she want with faeries anyway? She tried to go to sleep, but found she kept listening and, what she hated the most, was that a part of her wanted Kamui to tell another story.

"Yep. Of course they're real." Kamui nodded. "Though they are not always so small, with their magic they are able to take many forms. If ya' look hard enough, ya' jus' might get ta' see one for yourself. But be careful, for I've heard that evil, darker faeries also exist." His gaze wandered over to Enelya for a moment before looking back to the girl. "So there was this other time about a century later...," He went in to a narrative about how he had encountered what he thought to be a beautiful, young elven maiden being accosted by a group of ogres in some distant land. "So after defeating the ogres an' savin' the girl, heh, she goes an' reveals herself ta' be a faerie. A young one, too, appearing to be a little girl no bigger then my pinky. Merely seeking to see if she was all right, I accidentally tripped, falling toward her. I think she thought I was lungin' at her because the next thing I knew, I was dumped into a pond..." He shrugged, "I guess I'm just too much of a klutz..." 'Faeries... because of their magical nature, they can instantly tell I'm a half demon...'

"You must be a good swimmer," Alexia commented, lying down on her side and propping her head on Kamui's lap. She held Yibbles up against her stomach, rubbing his side. "What about centaurs? Horse-people? Do they exist?" she asked, looking up at him.

"Aw, I'm decent, I suppose. Swimmin's a good skill for an adventurer ta' have." He gave a small yawn and shifted to a more comfortable position, "Yeah, centaurs exist. They mostly stick ta' their forests, but I've met a few. One time we, " He motioned to Sakurako and Yibbles, "Was preparing ta' set up for the night on a vast grassy plain that I know not the name of. It was somewhere in Avalas' northern regions, south of the Aorin Forest. Bein' autumn, it was already felt like winter that far north. Indeed, the darkening sky seemed to threaten snow. Anywho, as luck would have it, on this vast plain, a traveling centaur came across us. Most adventurers share a sort of unspoken camaraderie, usually, and it was promising to be a bitterly cold night, so instead of going of an' making her own camp, we made camp together. Soon we had our tents pitched an' a roarin' fire goin'. As we huddled around the fire for warmth, we ate an' shared tales of our journeys, much like I'm doin' with you. In the mornin', we broke camp an' simply went our separate ways."

Alexia looked up at Kamui. She smiled at the fact that he had compared her to an adventuring centaur. She'd like to consider herself an adventurer one day. "I want to be an adventurer one day," she said. "And go to all the continents. I don't want to do what Daddy and Mommy do." Enelya swallowed hard. "They have to write letters to important people and do things with money and go to meetings all the time. It's boring."
Enelya didn't know what to do. She couldn't really silence the girl without raising suspicion. "It's time for us to go to sleep," she said. "I'm tired and we have a long day ahead of us."
"But Elly! I don't want..." Alexia began, but Enelya had opened her eyes and looked at the girl dangerously.
"Welcome to life, dear," Enelya said frigidly. "It's not what you want... ever. Now, get some rest and you can talk with your friend in the morning or whatever. It's not like he's leaving." She rolled over in her cot, ending the argument, and closed her eyes again.
Alexia sighed. She hated sleeping... She got all these weird dreams.

"Do ya' now?" Kamui chuckled with a half grin. "Know that bein' an adventurer isn't always as glorious as it's cracked up ta' be. For every pretty faerie or amicable centaur, there's a dozen bloodthirsty orcs or vile demon. It can be very hard at times, sometimes forcin' ya' ta' make decisions that a person should never hafta make. Like who gets ta' live an' who gets ta' die. Not everyone is cut out for it, an' even seasoned professionals can burn out. Though... if ya' do become an adventurer one day, remember, there's always another choice, even if it's not obvious." He chuckled and patted he on the head, "Gotta learn ta' pick your battles, too. A wise adventurer knows ta' rest when they can, for the opportunity doesn't always present itself later on..." 'That's the second time Enelya reacted ta' mention of Alexia's parents,' He thought to himself, not missing her gulp, look, and tone of voice, 'I wonder why that is...' "...Besides, Yibbles sometimes gets scared at night without someone ta' comfort 'im, hold 'im close. You don't mind doin' that, right?" As if to confirm this, Yibbles lowered his snout to the floor, hiding it under his front feet, his floppy ears covering his eyes. Sakurako merely yawned, but otherwise remained still, sitting next to Kamui.

Alexia snuggled up against Kamui and Yibbles both. "I'll keep him safe," she said bravely, though the thoughts of the nightmares she had were never absent.
Enelya was listening. Just listening. To Alexia and Kamui's breathing rates, mostly. She wasn't going to rest until both of them had fallen asleep.

Yibbles snuggled back up to Alexia and Kamui smiled lightly, placing an arm around Alexia, beginning to sing softly. " Umi wa hiroi na, okii na tsuki ga noboru shi, hi ga shizimu...
Umi was oonami, aoinami yurete doko made tsuzuku yara...
Umi ni ofune o ukabasete itte mitaini yoso no kuni..."Sakurako laid down on the floor where she sat, but did not close her eyes, merely watching Kamui, Alexia, and Yibbles. (The song, Umi (Ocean), is a Japanese lullaby/folk song thingy. Here it is in English: The ocean is wide, big the moon climbs from the ocean, the sun sets down to the ocean...
the ocean is big waves, blue waves rocking, where will it end...
we put the boat on the ocean we want to go to other countries...If you go here you hear the song, along with a few others.)

ooc;; That song is so purdy. ;__;
ic;; Alexia listened to Kamui's singing and, though she did not comprehend the words, she felt them. They gave her a sort of serene and secure feeling. She was reminded of her own father's voice as he had sung her to sleep on several occasions. With the assurance of these memories along with Kamui's voice, she fell into slumber almost immediately.
Enelya couldn't help but stifle a yawn as Kamui sung, though she refused to rest. She had to wait for Kamui to fall asleep. She was not entirely aware of what he was, so she didn't know how long he could go without sleeping. She did, however, know that she had slept most of the day and was nocturnal, so she would be able to keep her consciousness until morning, at least, if she really tried... Maybe. For every moment she lied there, unmoving, more laziness seeped into her bones. If she was going to stay awake, she needed to do something, or think of something... anything. Anything. And then she was asleep, dreaming up ideas of what she could do to stay awake, though they mattered not as she was already snoozing peacefully.
