The answer to her question struck her like a bolt of lightening, but she wasn't too sure that she would be able to do what was required in order to save him; in fact, she didn't quite understand why she was planning on saving him either. Maybe she just liked the company? Who knew, all she knew for certain was that she wasn't going to let him fall.
Her next shift was daunting for her to even attempt, wings enlarging, stretching out, feathers withdrawing and hardening into ruby coloured scales. Spines sprouted along her back bone, long tail sweeping out behind her. It was rather amazing to behold really, the birds shape molding into that of a young dragon, maybe double the size of a horse, wing beats slow and powerful, sending buffets of air down at the people below.
She reached down with clawed feet, clasping him in her grip carefully before rising higher, the strain of lifting both of their weight as well as the energy it had taken for this shift taking it's toll on her, the rise slow and laborious. His feet would leave the shuddering ground, the dragon grunting with effort as she carried him to the nearest patch of stable land before dropping him unceremoniously.
She was exhausted, Evelyn landing beside him on the ground in the form of the small cat, shaking a little from the energy she had just used saving him, collapsing on the ground by his feet. Her fur was still darkened by clumps of blood, though she didn't seemed to have any physical injuries. However, she did have one problem...her clothes were about to fall into oblivion with everything else on that ledge.

Vyncent did seem surprised as the ground was... pulled away from him, his expression one of shock and surprise as he was carried off. And by a dragon too... this certainly was turning into an interesting day. Then suddenly, dazedly, he turned to gaze down at his empty hand. And his expression darkened.
"You stupid girl!" he cursed her as he was carted off, a blast of fire issuing back towards the ledge, where Amor lay abandoned on the rocky surface. He broke free as soon as she would allow him to, landing softly on the ground and glaring down at her, despite the fact that she had probably just saved him from a few days of pain while he healed from that fall. Sweeping himself off so that his coat flared out behind him he reached a pale hand into the sky, almost expectant as the entire ledge sort of... rolled away from the cliff, going crashing down into the liquid darkness.
A faint whistle shot through the air towards them after a while, Amor cutting through the shadows as if they were made of silk, dying to be back in her master's hand. Vyncent had barely noticed what had happened until the sword was safely in her sheath, turning to gaze slowly down at Evelyn, crimson eyes holding a different emotion.
"You are an idiot." he told her bluntly, making it clear that she shouldn't have wasted her time saving him. "A complete and utter--" he was cut off by the sear of pain that tore through him from the back of his neck, staggering forward a little onto one knee.

The only thing that suggested that she had even heard him was that her ear flicked as he spoke, dazed looking gaze shifting up to him as if to ask him what the Hell he was talking about, blinking slowly at him before letting her attention slip away from the ungrateful demon; she hadn't expected much from him, but a thank you might be nice seeing as she was exhausted from killing him when she could have just left him to go splat.
She mewed weakly as she wrapped her tail around her little body, head curled on her paws. She ached all over, feeling pitifully weak from the effort shifting into such a creature as a dragon had taken, almost seeming as if she were unable to push herself to her paws and pad over to somewhere safer. If he wanted to flame her then he might as well get it over and done with because she couldn't run from him right now.
(Sorry it's short, I just had a brain failure.)

(Timeee shkippp!) * * * *
The sun had peaked over the horizon more than five hours ago now, though it wasn't particularly bright, not like the day before. Gloomy clouds had settled over the Twin Mountains, letting a damp, misty fog roll into the valley, which was just below them. The wreckage of the fallen ledge could still be seen through the mist, however, several chunks of rock protruding into the air, a scrap of clothing here on one, a spatter of blood there on another.
The ledge where they'd landed also looked as though there had been a struggle on it, but nobody had intruded during the final stretch of night. Droplets of blood were collected on the stone in certain places, and Vyncent's deep red coat had been screwed up into a ball and tossed carelessly somewhere beside where Evelyn had chosen to sleep. Vyncent, however, was curled tightly against the far wall of the ledge, his limbs tense and his eyes pressed tightly shut, to tightly for him to be unconscious though it was clear that he was still sleeping. The high demon wasn't well at all.
His pale skin glistened with a feverish sweat, his hair strewn over his face and his normally emmaculate white shirt scuffed and stained with both blood and dust from the ledge. The loose collar of the shirt hung open, revealing the soft contours of his chest and, disturbingly, many harsh scorches that travelled in lines, looping around his neck and over his chest. The reason for this was also tangled around him; a very long loop of thick silver chain that had been thrown around him during the scuffle, now practically tying him down.
His hands were also burnt, as though he'd tried to claw the thing off unsuccessfully, but at least for now the chain was against his clothes other than his skin. Adding to the predicament was the source of his tortured slumber - a heavy silver crucifix that had been melded to the chain, sapping away his strength for the entire night. So now he was weak and tired, and probably dying. This was a good start to the day so far.

The blood had dried into her red fur through the night, caking it with thick clumps of dark blood which darkened her coat, mixed in with glittering droplets of early morning dew. She wasn't quite awake yet, curled up on the uncomfortable, stone ground breathing slowly and quietly, head resting peacefully on her paws. Who would have thought such a small little creature could have even dreamed of causing the damage that she had last night? Well, except for the blood of course.
Evelyn was starting to stir though now, fur bristling as she shifted, eyes fluttering open to reveal their brilliant green colour, yawning widely as her sleepy gaze danced over her surroundings to Vyncent. He was still here? How strange, she had expected him to have abandoned her in the night...well...she suspected that he would have abandoned her if it weren't for the chain that was looped around him.
She stretched her limbs out as she rose to her feet, her muscles still aching from yesterdays exertion, but she could cope with that. She padded over toward the demon, mewing to him lightly as if to get his attention as she seated herself on the ground in front of him, head cocked to the side as she studied him carefully, unable to understand why he seemed so ill; surely a demon like him couldn't get ill, what a ridiculous idea.
The feline seemed to be in a rather playful mood as she pawed at his boot lightly, attempting to make him open his eyes and look at her, mewing impatiently before hopping around to run and bury herself in his coat, the human form of the girl arising from the bundle of cloth, wearing the coat to cover herself as she ran her fingers through her bloody hair. "Vynce? You got hurt?" She questioned as she wandered back over to kneel down in front of him. "Where did the chain come from?"

He didn't repond to her at first, his breathing seeming kind of laboured now as he opened his eyes dazedly to look up at her. The crimson orbs were dull and tired, none of their former glory hidden in there. He groaned in reply to her, turning to press his forehead down to the cool stone as if that might clear his head. When that didn't, he fought to find the words to speak to her.
"From the fight... didn't notice until... too late." he breathed, shifting a little to try and sit up and causing the chain to press against his skin again, where it hissed and smoked violently. Vyncent winced, a little moan of pain escaping his lips as he shook the thing back onto his clothes and collapsed back onto the cold ground.
"Please." his velvet voice was weak and pleading, somewhere deep inside him his words surprising him as much as they were probably surprising her. "Take it off. Please..." he begged, moving so he was more or less sprawled in front of her, at her mercy now. The crucifix had slid along the chain when he moved so it dangled enticingly in front of him, the demon not even having the strength to shuffle away from it anymore. He must have been exhausted, then.

She studied him for a moment, the expression on her face reading that she thought she was mishearing him. He he just said please? He was practically begging her...and he sounded so weak. Concern replaced that playful glint in her eyes as she wrinkled her nose as the chain burnt his flesh, ugh...she would have to touch him to move the chain.
She carefully reached out, touching the chain carefully at first, to make sure that it didn't hurt her, before starting to work on unwinding it from around him carefully, trying to stop it from touching to his flesh again. "I don't get it...it's only a chain..." She murmured to herself before she came to the crucifix, running it between her fingertips before murmuring a small "Ohhhhh" in realization. Symbol of faith, of purity, of course it hurt such a tainted demon.
She dropped the chains down next to him as she removed them, finishing before sitting back away from him, as if worried that he would attack her or something of the sort for not waking up to save him sooner...or for wearing his coat. "Vynce, you alright now?" She questioned carefully, ready to run if she had to.

"And it's silver..." he explained faintly as she moved the chain, keeping completely still so neither she or the silver links would touch him - the last thing he needed was for her to get grossed out by touching someone and leave him to die. The dull realisation of what had happened hit him as the heavy chain fell to the floor away from him, finally allowing him to rest.
If she hadn't been there... he'd have fought the nobles as usual, they'd have put the chain on him and he wouldn't have noticed... he'd have gotten away, wouldn't have been able to get it off... and that would have been it. A deep sigh escaped his lips as he rested his cheek on the cool stone, still weak and exhausted from what had happened. He wouldn't be able to move for a while now, and she could do what she liked. She could rob him, for all he cared.
"Thank you..." this was entirely him now, though he didn't lift his head to look at her (mostly because he didn't have the strength), "Thank God for you." he whispered, his shirt clinging to his slender, muscular form from the damp mist, his scorched palms spread out on the ground.

Caution danced in her eyes at first as she watched him, tense as if waiting for an attack, though she relaxed as he spoke. Thank you, the demon had actually said thank you...maybe that chain really had been serious. Did that mean she had just saved his life? No, she doubted it, someone like Vynce would never be stupid enough to get into that kind of position and get killed, of course he would have had a way out...or so she thought anyway.
She laid on her side next to him, leaving a gap between the pair of them as she watched him, her hand tucked under her cheek, still wrapped up in his coat. "Are you going to be alright?" She repeated her question, still seeming worried about his well being. "Don't die Vynce, pretty please? I don't want you to die yet..." She informed him, seeming to pout at him as she watched him.
"Oh...and does this mean I can borrow your coat?" She put in there, sounding oddly cheerful once more. "Please? My clothes fell with the ledge."

He seemed dazed when she appeared in his line of sight, wondering how she'd gotten there; she wasn't as tall as he was... oh, right. He was on the floor. Great. A little more sense had worked its way into his gaze now that the crucifix was well and truly away from him, letting him think about what had happened.
They NEVER came near him so boldly, especially not thieves. So why had these done so? And he'd let his guard down, too, something he would not be doing again. That was certain. He'd let himself get... comfortable over the years, which explained his serious lack of judgement in this case. His reputation might precede him, but that still meant he had to live up to it every now and then.
He smiled as she began talking; a tired, almost patient smile while he examined his burned hands. He nodded lightly at both of her questions, having realised that he effectively owed her his life. Another thing he wouldn't be forgetting, something he'd look into with more detail when he had enough energy to move. "Just don't wreck it." he mumbled.

Evelyn smiled to him brightly at that point, rolling so that she was laid sprawled out on her back, hair fanned out over the rocks behind her, still clumped up with blood that she seemed to have forgotten about. "I'll take care of it." She promised with a nod, her gaze drifting up to the grey blanket of cloud above them, seeming to sigh at the thought of rain.
"Do you need anything? Are you hungry? I could go hunt..." She suggested rather lazily, almost as if she just needed something to do while she waited for him to feel better. It was still unknown to her why she stayed with him though when she could have gone and been much safer elsewhere. Maybe she was fed up of being lonely?
She breathed softly as she watched the clouds, the shape of her body seeming to be all the more obvious through the material of his coat, the flesh of her legs criss-crossed with scars that she hadn't realized were showing yet or she would have covered them up. Her body was riddled with scars, mapping the events of her abuse at the hands of her Master.

His eyes glittered when she sprawled out, though it wasn't obvious that he was watching her unless you really looked close, since his hair was strewn across his face slightly; everything he viewed was blurred with silver anyway. "A sharp stone." he muttered when she asked if there was anything he needed, lifting the arm nearest to her to move forwards a little.
It seemed to be taking a lot of effort to move, so he was relatively slow in removing the little jar of healing balm from the pocket of the coat, sighing as he set it on the ground in front of him, watching it almost expectantly. It was a good thing she was around, he supposed with a light smile to himself - even if he had gotten out of this alive, he'd have probably been killed by now simply because he was vulnerable.
Little by little, his strength was beginning to ebb back to him, though he already knew this would be a slow process. All he wanted was to be able to walk, then he'd be fine. Hopefully.

"A sharp stone?" She questioned, seeming to find that to be a rather odd request, turning her head to look over at him, as if to check to see if he was teasing her, her hair falling over her face as she looked to him. Why on earth would he want a sharp stone? Especially when he had a sword. Then again, Vyncent was proving to be a rather odd and unpredictable character wasn't he?
She sat up swiftly, shaking her fiery hair back from her face as she cast her gaze over the patch of stony ground that they were seated on, reaching out to grab what looked to be a shape stone, a long and smooth one with a jagged point at one end where it had been broken sometime or another. "It that one alright? It's pointy look." She nodded to him as she held the stone out.
Her gaze flickered to the little pot of ointment as he set it on the ground before him, setting the stone by it before leaning over just a little to remove the lid from the pot for him before laying back down again, eyes once more on the sky. "Can you hurry and heal or something? I think it might rain soon and I don't really want to get wet."

"I hate the rain more than you do." he promised her, thanking her only with a small nod as he pulled the jagged stone towards him, moving very slowly and unevenely to his knees. Oh good, his sentences were getting longer and he could move this much. Go him! He began to use the stone to cut a strip of his shirt away; he wasn't nearly strong enough to use Amor, so this would have to do.
Usually he wouldn't condone tearing his clothes up, but... well, you could never really get blood stains out anyway, and he'd have to buy a new shirt whether he destroyed it or not. Lifting the little jar of healing balm up now, he worked it over most of the burns on his neck and chest and hands, though one particularly nasty one across his throat seemed too deep to be any use to the balm alone, so he worked some of it into the strip of shirt before tying it neatly around his neck like a kerchief.
"Much better..." he sighed as the tingling effect began to take place, now on his knees with his head turned up to the sky looking like an angel who'd fallen from heaven, and who was now bitterly regretting the decision. "There's a little village further up the mountain where we can go for a day or so... I don't think they've heard of me there..."

"I don't hate the rain, I just don't really want to get wet..." She shrugged to him before raising a hand to run through her hair, pulling a face as her fingertips touched to the clumps of blood tangled in her locks. "I suppose it would be a good thing though...I can't go into the village like this..." She mused as she looked down at herself, seeming to realise that she looked quite a state at the moment, and, unlike him, she wasn't able to even attempt to pull the look off.
"If they've heard of you just kill them and lets steal their houses until we want to go again." She shrugged a little, as if that were nothing. Well, if the villagers were unwilling to allow them to stay peacefully then they would just have to be forced because thats what people were like, sometimes they just had to be forced into what they needed to do for the better.
She shifted to sit cross-legged on the ground, not noticing that the pronoun that she used in her speech had changed from 'I' to 'we' all of a sudden, as if she was stuck on him now. Psht, if he asked her properly she would probably fall into the habit of doing whatever he asked of her too, seeing as that had become an annoying habit that had stuck with her since her years of slavery.
"Well?" She questioned, tilting her head at him a little. "Are we going?"
