She turned her attention up to him when he told her what he did, seeming to take a moment or two to work out what he was talking about before a smile touched to her features; was he embarrassed? She thought it to be rather sweet that a man like him could be bothered with such things, never mind admit to someone what they did.
"Ahhh, that would explain it then." She nodded, letting her fingers play through her curls as she spoke. "I've always love poetry, even when I can't understand it." She laughed lightly, as if trying to put him at ease. "Maybe you could help me? I've never been masterful with words."

"Ah, but of course," Charlie said, having to stop himself from sighing with relief. He snatched his cape with his right hand and bowed, waving his arm before him and then swooping back up. "Charles Dominic Donahue III, at your service." He grinned benevolently, happy with the fact that she had not laughed at him. In fact, she had said that she liked poetry. The redness in his face faded slowly as they walked along.
"Mm, the stables are right up here," Charlie said, pointing to his left. The building had chipped paint and looked rather old. "Nevermind the looks of the place. I assure the man is a horse-lover if Syrunn's ever seen one." Jaynee snorted miserably, not wanting to leave his side and recognizing the stables. "Oh, stop that." Charlie said, cocking an eyebrow, though his lopsided smile did not leave.

A grin played over her features as bowed to her so dramatically, amusement dancing in her eyes. She liked his company, liked it if truth be told. He wasn't like other men, he was rather sweet really. His company was refreshing, especially when she had been feeling so low. She eyed the building warily, arching an eyebrow before nodding to him a little, as if to say that she was willing to trust him on this one. "How much does it cost?" She asked, pulling her money bag from her belt, unfastening it to peer inside and count up the pitiful amount of coins that jangled together in there.

Charlie glanced at the coin bag surreptitiously, noticing the small amount of money she had with her. As they approached, a stout man with a short, frizzy beard and salt-and-pepper hair approached them. His dark brown eyes glinted.
"Not a thing," Charlie answered to her. He had planned it out, but he was a horrible liar.
"Ah, you've brought back Jaynee, I see!" the man said. He had a jolly voice. Charlie looked at the man in amazement that he had remembered his horse. "They all look at me in surprise at first, sir, but it is the dear horses I remember, not the people. And who might you be?" He turned to Angel. No, he turned to Angel's horse. Charlie reached into his own coin bag, pulling out a few shiny pieces and, as sneakily as possible, reaching over the fence the separated them and nudging the man's side with his balled fist. The man looked down, Charlie opened his hand.
"I was just telling Angel about your free services," Charlie said, lying terribly. The man chuckled a bit, receiving the coins with less subtlety than Charlie had offered them.
"Indeed," he responded. "If you will just bring your horse over to the gate, madame." The man gestured with his arm. Charlie secured his coin bag as he walked, not worrying about Jaynee's reigns, as she stepped right behind him, albeit reluctantly.

She didn't believe Charlie, of course, and she knew what he was trying to do; he knew that if he offered to pay for her then she would refuse, so he was just going to pay for her to save her that embarrassment of being unable to afford lodgings or food tonight.
"He is called Phantom." Angel told the man, the horse flaring his nostrils at the sound of his name, nodding it's head up and down for a moment before flicking his tail about, the creature seeming rather happy to know that it would get to rest for a little while. Phantom plodded along next to her as she lead him over to the gate, the horse seeming unable of anything more than a slow, sleepy stride.
"I could have paid, you know." She told Charlie as she glanced up at him, seeming pretty embarrassed that he had already realized how short on coins she was. "I don't need charity...but thank you anyway. I will pay you back, I promise."

Charlie cursed himself silently for being such a bad liar.
"I didn't say you needed charity," Charlie replied, getting a little red in the cheeks again. "Everyone could use it. I have too full of a pocket, anyway." It was true. He hardly spent money on anything except traveling supplies, clothes, weapon upkeep, and charity. His spare money was usually used to help out others or buy Jaynee the juicy carrots she so loved. He led his horse to the gate, feeling a little embarassed himself as the man opened it up and took Phantom's reigns.
"He's in good care, miss," he said. "C'mon, Phantom, boy. Just put new hay in the stables."
"Go on, Jaynee," Charlie said, leading her in himself and handing the man the reigns. "I'll be back soon, I promise." He stroked her neck. She nuzzled him affectionately, letting out a small, whiny sound before being led off. Charlie grabbed the gate and closed it behind him.

"You don't need to pay for me, I can look after myself no matter how unlikely that seems." She told him, that sounding much harsher than she had intended it; she simply didn't like him paying for her, it made her feel like she owed him and we all know where that usually ended up.
Phantom seemed to have a small skip to his step as he headed into the stable, his nose immediately buried in the hay, his owner forgotten for the time being.

"I didn't insinuate that it was unlikely that you would be able to care for yourself," Charlie said, not in an arguing way, but with an apologetic tone. "Indeed, you took better care of yourself back there than I've ever seen a woman do. I was just... It was just a gift. From a friend. You really don't owe me anything. I mean, am I not torturing you enough by forcing you to come with me to buy clothing?" He grinned, trying to ease her up a bit. He always seemed to do something, fumble along the way, or be too kind and end up digging himself a hole. At first, he'd try to climb out of it by grinning, joking, or apologizing. If that didn't work, then he just crawled in it and hid. The fearless savior was afraid of disgruntled women far more than he was of bandits with weapons and nothing to lose.

Angel huffed a little, glancing back at Phantom, as if to check that he was alright, before turning her attention back up to Charlie. She pouted a little before a small smile tugged at the edges of her lips, she was being dramatic, wasn't she? "I suppose that is alright then..." She nodded slowly, brushing a strand of hair back from her face. "Thank you." She added before turning her attention out of the stables. "Well, we should get to the market before it packs up..."

"Indeed," Charlie agreed. He led the way down the main street, away from the stables. The market could be seen ahead. He hoped no idiotic male with only one thing in mind made any snide remarks about Angel. He really didn't want to expose her to anymore violence today. Not for proprietary reasons in the least, he just did not like men degrading women, no matter what they looked like or who they were, in such a way. He stopped and offered her his arm with a grin. Maybe it would help fend off the skirt-chasers.

She arched her eyebrow at him for a second as he offered her his arm before deciding that he really was harmless as she linked her arm with his lightly; maybe it was better if they looked like they were together anyway, it might stop any further unwanted attention.
"So..." She began, deciding to make conversation between the pair of them, "What brings you to Idaiokai? Are you here on business of anything? Or are you a traveler?" She questioned lightly.

"I'm nomadic," Charlie informed her. "I've been traveling for quite some while now. From where I hail, I was gaining popularity along the coast, but running out of things to write about. I doubt they would remember my name if I returned there today." He sighed. "But I needed to see more things. I've traveled to Eria, Nroh, and now here I am. The politics and scenery may be different, but they're essentially similar. I need something... different." He looked around him, as if he was going to find it. "And you?" he asked, looking at her as he led her into a tailor's.

"I'm traveling." She told him rather vaguely. "I wanted to learn more about myself so I decided that the best way to do that would be to travel." She nodded to him, not exactly lying but she couldn't tell him the truth could she? He would think that she were mad or something.
"So you're searching for inspiration? Searching for your muse?" She asked him, smiling to herself a little. That seemed oddly fitting for him really, something rather poetic and sweet. "Something different like what? Or would knowing what you were looking for make the search too easy?" She asked. Oh yes, Angel was good as switching the focus of the conversation back away from herself.

"That's exactly right," Charlie responded, grinning fondly at her. He looked around the dim shop with a little difficulty. These people didn't much believe in windows, as there were only two on either side of the door he and Angel had just entered. They believed heavily in candles, though.
There were shelves filled with folded clothing of all colors. Every now and then, an example piece would be tacked up so that you could easily find what you were looking for. Charlie saw a style of collared short-sleeve shirts he liked and made his way toward it.

Angel was, of course, rather distracted by the more extravagant fabrics and garments which were placed to one side of the store on the off chance that someone with money would wander into the store in search of the perfect outfit. She couldn't afford the luxury of new clothing, so her ones would have to do for now.
"What kind of thing are you wanting? Just a replacement for your ruined shirt?" She asked him as she tagged along, following after him to the other side of the store, not having any problems with seeing through the gloom, but she was obviously keeping her wings pinned close to her back to avoid knocking anything over or setting her feathers on fire with one of the candles.
"It's so small in here..." She mumbled, guessing that she would have to hide her wings away soon, not looking forward to that. She had Lent that skill by accident, but it was uncomfortable and a little painful hiding your wings, she couldn't keep it up for very long.
