"Wonderful," Charlie said, his lopsided grin spreading a bit as he tried to contain his excitement. He perched his lips and whistled. His horse came trotting toward him. He met the horse halfway, picking up his favorite cloak before she could trample it. He tied it on and snatched her reigns. "That's a good girl, now. Staying nice and still while Charlie fought the mean men." His voice took a baby-ish tone as he talked to his beloved horse. He patted her neck appreciatively as he came to stand next to Angel. He looked around, trying to seek out Angel's horse. He hoped it hadn't bolted; they were rather expensive beasts.
'Though, well worth it,' he thought, looking at his own mare again and stroking her neck. The horse nuzzled his neck. "Jaynee," he reprimanded, though he was still smiling. "Easy."

He didn't seem to be the only person looking for her horse as Angel herself seemed to be wondering where the creature had gotten to, not remembering having seen it bolt off...but then again she hadn't been paying much attention to the creature had she? She seemed bemused when she was unable to locate her horse, moving to step away from Charlie a little and peer around the corner, a smile touching to her lips as she found the beast stood by the edge of the water, head bent down as it snorted against the waves, as if annoyed to find that it couldn't drink such salty water.
She moved over and gently took the horse's reigns, the beast looking up at her for a second before nudging her with his nose, as if to ask her where she had been, before plodding after her as she lead him back over towards Charlie. "I think he's thirsty, maybe we should take them to a stable before buying you a new shirt?" She suggested.

"That sounds great," Charlie replied. "I normally take Jaynee everywhere I go, but a little water and proper horse feed as opposed to the bland grass would do her some good. Maybe I'll even chip in a few coins to get her groomed." He patted her back. "Sound good, girl?" Though she didn't understand him, she realized that he was talking to her and let out a small sound. "Shall we ride or walk?" Charlie questioned. He didn't mind either way.

"I'm sure that she'll love the pampering." She nodded to him, a hint of amusement in her voice at the thought of him lavishing such attentions on his horse. She was lucky if she managed to get a bed for the night sometimes, never mind her horse! Humm, how wonderful it must have been to have spare coins.
"I would say walk." She told Charlie, not sure that her horse would be very happy, or co-operative, if she tried to ride. "Which way is it to the nearest tavern?" She questioned lightly as she looked up to him. "I've never been here before, I have no idea where anything is." She informed him, as if trying to spark up conversation.

"I was here briefly once," Charlie said. "I'm not originally from here, you see." He decided not to over-explain himself this time, leading his horse and beginning to walk down the road. "I know of a good tavern just this way. Not too expensive, and not too dirty." He strolled along, one hand gripping the reigns of his horse, the other resting on the hilt of his sword. The pain coming from his stab wound was worsening considerably, and he was reminded that he was injured. He moved his cloak quickly, stopping in the road and making sure none of the blood had run off on his favorite article of clothing. He took it off, draping it over Jaynee and looking at his leg. His pants were black, but they were darker where the blood had come off. He winced after seeing the condition of it. "Maybe we should stop at a healer's first. My leg is bothering me."

"Do you want me to take a look at that for you?" She asked him, having been watching him out of the corner of her eye for a while now, the thought of him being hurt an annoying niggle in the back of her mind. She paused where she stood, turning to look up at him. "I'll be gentle, I promise. You really do need to stop the bleeding though..." She wouldn't force him to let her look though, most men liked to play the hero and pretend that they weren't hurt when they obviously were. "Or at least let me clean it to stop infection." Concern flickered through her eyes for a moment, knowledge that infection was a killer amongst mortals jumping to the forefront of her mind; she couldn't risk him dying for helping her could she?

"Ah, do you know a bit about healing then?" Charlie asked. "I don't want to put you through too much trouble." Charlie didn't love being the hero; he'd much rather meet a woman when she wasn't in fatal circumstances. He thought Angel to be a kind soul, and women like that always felt as if they owed him something after being saved. He didn't like putting people in the position that they felt they were in debt to him, so he figured that he would let Angel have a look at his wound. He rolled up his pantleg until the deep wound was visible, right above the crease of his knee on the back of his leg. He turned so that she could see it better, still holding the pantleg up with one arm, holding the cape away from the blood with the other. He winced as the air met the hot blood, stinging horribly.

"I know...a fair deal about healing." She told him, not wanting to give away too much really; mortals never did react too well to the fact that she was a real angel, the whole concept of such a creature being real enough to baffle most and sent them into denial about their own deeds. Angel had never seen herself as being some pure creature which had been sent to 'heal the sins of the world' or any of that nonsense.
"Sitting down will make it easier for you." She advised as she crouched down to study his leg carefully, reaching up to touch her cool finger-tips to the flesh on his leg just next to the wound, ignoring the amount of blood. "Looks like it's deep but it's not hit anything vital. It needs cleaning and stitching for the best healing, and you really shouldn't be putting too much weight on it."

Charlie sighed. Oh how he enjoyed walking... He didn't want to give that up. He decided to either carve up a walking stick or buy one as he sat down, putting all his weight on his right side so that Angel could tend to the wound on the back of his left leg.
"Do you have the supplies to cleanse and stitch it?" he asked. "Or do you know healing magic?" He knew he'd write a song about her. The winged woman of unfathomable beauty who healed his leg and was named Angel. He doubted anyone would believe in such coincidences -- he wasn't even sure if he did.

"I know enough to heal you." She nodded, not really giving too much away. She hated it when conversation turned toward her, usually able to avoid questions with vague answers before switching the focus of the conversation. What was she supposed to say about herself? That she only remembers the last year of her life and that she has no idea what her name is or who she is in general?
"You just need to sit still. It won't hurt but you might feel cold and tingly." She advised as she reached up and touched her hand to his forehead. Healing was about forcing the body to speed up natural healing process, so the focus was on the brain rather than the wound itself. She numbed his body first, so as not to cause him any discomfort, before forcing his body to start to recreate the blood that he had lost, closing up the skin as she repaired the main part of the damage.

Charlie held as still as possible, barely daring to breathe. He felt the feeling in his body go away, down the every last ounce of pain the wound was causing him. Then, all he felt was the skin around his wound going taut, as if it had grown back. As she finished, he did feel quite cold and tingly... especially his leg. He rubbed it, looked at it. It had healed back, but the skin was a little pale and he imagined it would be tender once he regained total feeling in his limbs. That leg was especially tingly. He noticed that as he stood up.
Oh well. It was better than a bleeding, open wound just begging for an infection. He offered his hand to Angel to help her up.
"Thanks for that, Angel," he said appreciatively. "You know, you're not the average damsel-in-distress." He grinned teasingly, lopsidedly, still offering a strong arm.

"No problem, it was the least that I could do. Just be careful with it, it will be tender for a while until your body finishes healing properly." She nodded as she brushed a stray strand of hair back from her face, her troublesome hood falling back from her face again as she looked up at him, taking his hand to let him help her back to her feet.
He really was a gentleman wasn't he? More of a gentle giant than anything else. It was refreshing to meet someone like him, especially when she had begun to feel rather lonely on her little journey.
"Being ordinary is too much hard work."

"Being ordinary is rather impossible," Charlie commented. Oh great, the poet in him was escaping. "Everyone has a different opinion of ordinary, and if you strive for normality, then you'll only find a dead end. Life goes nowhere unless you are yourself. I would much rather spend all my life trying to find out who I am than running from it." He began to walk leisurely. Jaynee began to trot along behind him, his hands still holding her reigns. He didn't need to, she would have followed, anyway.

"I never thought of it like that..." She commented, blinking slowly as she considered what he had just said; oh, that was far too deep for their first meeting. His comment about finding yourself seemed to strike a raw nerve though, a small frown furrowing her brow. This quest for self enlightenment seemed to be so important to everyone...but would it be easier if she had somewhere to start from? She hoped so anyway.
Her wings shifted behind her, stretching out lazily before folding away again, a few stray feathers curling down to the floor, rolling her shoulders. "You've had an education?" She asked him, sounding pretty impressed. "I've never heard anyone speak like that before."

Charlie's cheeks gained a reddish tinge. He ran his hand through his hair slowly, resting his hand on the back of his neck.
"No," he replied. "Well, I had basic schooling, but I never went to a special academy of any sort." He let his hand fall down to his side. "I'm... a bard." He looked at her through the corner of his eye. A man who loved poetry was not a man at all, it seemed, in most women's eyes, or so he had learned from past experiences. He had just went on a manly butt-whooping spree and saved her from a band of muggers, he hoped it was enough to cancel out the impression of his occupation. Some women seemed to shut him off after that. Most just giggled until they realized he wasn't joking.
