For a moment Nicu's eyes were filled with an unguarded astonishment as she looked at Nudge as she mentioned being able to get rid of her scars, or rather one scar in particular. Nicu would do practically anything to get rid of that scar, even if it wouldn't give her her sight back. However, it wasn't long before suspicion began to creep into her gaze, as if she were totaly incapable of actually allowing herself to trust someone, almost immediatly finding a reason to doubt. What would Nudge want as payment for getting rid of her scar? Surely the girl wouldn't do it free of any charge, especially something that had to be rather complicated and draining. "I hate my scars." She mumbled, pushing her hand back through her hair, rubbing at the scar over her eye self consciously. "You could try to get rid of them, if you wanted."
She glanced away about Nudge's comment about being able to trust her. "I suppose that I will just have to trust ya, but only with this one thing." She sighed heavily, sounding rather reluctant about that. She didn't have any choice but to trust the healer, but it didn't mean that she had to be happy with this situation. Nicu had trust issues, major trust issues, so even attempting to trust Nudge was damn near impossible. "Ya' only get one chance though. Slip up once an' it's over." She mumbled, buttoning up the bottom of her shirt again.
She cast her gaze over the bloody floor before looking at Nudge again. "There's a mop in the kitchin'. Straight down the corridor to the end, you can't miss it." She told her with a nod. "You go an' I'll change while ya getting the mop." She nodded and struggled to her feet. She still felt rather weak despite being healed, and it would probably be better if she didn't try to do too much for the next few hours to allow herself recovery time. But she needed to change out of these bloody clothes, and her other clothes were inside the chest so she had to stand up to get them.

"Of course I'll try and get rid of them for you." Nudge smiled brightly, the innocence in her voice telling that she'd not ask for anything as payment even if she wanted it - the little healer could probably have made a small fortune by now were it not for her empathy, and the good deeds she did merely because people needed her to do them. She blinked up at Nicu at the mentioning of trusting her with only this one thing, a small smile making its way across her face. It was pretty apparent by this point that the sailor had more than a few issues with trust, and she wasn't going to press her further. Heck, Nudge was surprised that she hadn't been thrown overboard already, but she guessed the rather substantial amount of blood on the wooden boards might have something to do with that.
"Alrighty - you get changed and I'll fetch the mop!" she nodded, her fiery hair glinting in the lamp-light as she marched to the door, as if this were the most important task in the world; Nudge did tend to throw herself and her enthusiasm into even the most mundane of tasks, after all. "And tomorrow, when I've gotten some energy back, I promise I'll try to help fade your scars." she chirped over her shoulder, before tugging the door open and following Nicu's directions to find the kitchen after closing it again. The little healer was humming to herself as she searched for the mop, suddenly hiding a yawn behind her hand. Hm, maybe she was more tired out than she thought. Oh, well... she hadn't even thought about where she was going to sleep, though. Perhaps with the crew? That would be... an experience, to say the least.
The little healer was giggling to herself as she walked back to Nicu's cabin, by now trying to imagine getting her petite frame into a hammock, visions of the entire structure tumbling down on top of her filling her head. Oh, this sailing thing got more amusing and exciting the more the thought about it. Reaching out, Nudge gave three soft taps on the door of the cabin, just in case Nicu was still getting dressed. "Are you done?" she called in lightly, the mop in one hand and a bucket of murky water in the other (she'd left her wooden rod in the cabin for the sake of not having three hands).

Nicu looked rather...well...bemused was probably the best word for it really, as she watched Nudge leave the room. That girl was utterly insane. She just...she was just so innocent and such a good person. Damn, she had offered to get rid of her scars for her and hadn't even asked for anything in return, not a thing. Not even asked for Nicu to look after her while she was on the ship or to share her rations of food or ANYTHING. She had just offered to help her out of the kindness of her heart, which was strange. People always wanted something in return for their help...but Nudge seemed to be the exception to that rule. The little healer seemed to be the exception to many rules really.
"Strange kid." She mumbled to herself as she touched the scar over her eye before turning her back on the door to get changed. She carefully peeled her bloody shirt off, using it to wipe the rest of the blood away from her stomach before dropping it to the ground in the corner and tugging open the chest, fishing out a new shirt before shrugging it on. This one was a little bigger than the first one, Nicu tugging on a waist coat over it so that it didn't seem quite so huge on her. Next she swapped her bloodstained trousers for a fresh pair before shutting the chest again, the lid falling back into place with a loud 'bang'.
"Yeah. Done nar." She informed Nudge, pushing the door open to let her back into the room, kicking herdirty clothes into one corner of the room. She would get rid of those later. She would have washed them but she had always found that blood rarely washed out properly. "There's water in the bucket, right?" She asked as she took the mop from the girl. "Can't get hte blood up without water."

Nudge smiled at her brightly as she opened the door, nodding at her question. "Yeah, there's enough water in here to clean up at least." she informed her, looking down at the murky water in the bucket and holding the handle with both hands once Nicu had taken the mop from her. She walked back into the room, careful not to spill any of the water and setting the bucket down against the wall, in a spot where blood hadn't stained the floor. "I'll leave the door open to help dry it up." she murmured, moving to retrieve her wooden rod and stand it up against the cabin wall, out of the way. She watched Nicu with the mop, pushing a lock of hair out of her face and gazing around at the cabin.
"I'll help to clean up if you want." she offered eventually, "You might still be dizzy from being healed, every person reacts differently to it." she piped, "So if you feel off balance try not to do anything too difficult, okay?" she told her softly, now reaching into the folds of her cloak to look for something. Eventually she drew out a little, leatherbound book, now leaning against the wall and keeping out of the way of Nicu as she opened it. This was where Nudge tended to write any random or helpful things she'd obtained on her travels; healing magic was an art, something you had to learn, but other beneficial spells were things you could jot down and go back to later. That, along with information about certain herbs and such.
She had been flicking through the pages for a minute or so when she finally found what she'd been looking for, eyes brightening as she looked over the spell. She'd figured it was just a simple spell, the one that faded scars, but she'd never realised how simple it was - it was just like healing something, except that it had already been healed once. She doubted she'd even have to look in the book to find it again, the girl smiling faintly to herself and closing the book again, depositing it back in the folds of her cloak and settling back to watch Nicu.

Nicu nodded to her and dipped the mop into the murky water, pressing it against the side of the bucket for a moment to make sure that there wasn't too much water in the mop before sloshing it over the bloody floor. Oh, she hated cleaning up, she generally made other people do it and claimed to have something better to do, but seeing as this was her cabin she supposed that she had to do it herself. Plus, they might as well get all the blood up before it dried onto the floor and was impossible to get up. She didn't really like the idea of her little cabin always stinking of blood, in such a little space the scent would be quite over powering, but ther ewas no way that she would swap and sleep with the crew...it stank even worse where they slept.
"Am alright." She told Nudge, though that might have been stretching the truth a little. She was feeling admittedly rather dizzy right now, and awfully weak. She hated feeling this weak, which was why she was busying herself with mopping the blood up, hoping that if she kept moving about her strength would return soon, either that or she'd fall over or walk into the wall or something. "Not as if I 'an't been stabbed 'afore." She pointed out as she glanced up at the healed. Well, having someone worry about her felt rather strange, she was sure that someone worrying about her all of the time could get rather annoying. She could look after herself, she didn't need someone fussing over her.
She titled her head at the girl as she tugged out the battered little notebook, looking bemused by this. Nudge could read? That was strange. Nicu could read a little, of course, but that was something that had stuck with her from her childhood. Her father's money spent on her education hadn't been totaly wasted. "What cha' readin'?" She questioned curiously as she continued to clean the floor. The water was rather bloody by now, but she seemed to be sucessful at getting the bigged part of the blood up from the floor.

"Well even if you have been stabbed before, I doubt as if you've come this close to bleeding to death, right?" Nudge tilted her head, the little glint in her bright green eyes telling that she was honestly curious about this - Nicu was the first real sailor she'd met, after all, and Nudge was as interested in the ways of the sea as she was everything else. Hm... did people get hurt that often on a ship? And all over a game of cards or a few coins? Whoa! Not that any of the dangers of this settled on her shoulders at all, she was as excited as ever. Nudge really was a glass half full kind of person; you could be in the midst of a bloody battle with no hope at all of winning, and she'd still find something to be cheerful about. Most likely the 'eccentric scenery' or something to that effect.
"Are you sure you're okay? You're looking kind of pale..." the little healer mumbled to her, though she let the subject drop, not wanting to evoke Nicu's wrath at having someone fuss at her. She smiled down at the floorboards when she was questioned about her little book, thinking to herself and pushing her hair back from her face. "It's just my note-book." she told her brightly, "Whenever I find something interesting that doesn't apply exactly to healing, I write it down in here so I can remember it. Then if I need it I can always go back to it. Of course, I have to try out the spell first - no point in putting a useless spell in there, huh?" she giggled a little, patting the folds of her cloak where the book was concealed. "I was looking up the spell that can take away your scars."
Nudge could 'read'... sort of. Well, in her travels and from the wise old sage back in Tsukaan she had learned what she supposed could be almost qualified as reading and writing; although, Nudge preferred the use of symbols more than words. Since she didn't know how to express a lot of things by writing them down, she'd devised this system of symbols, to tell her what to do and how to do it. Nudge supposed they were unique to her, she doubted anyone else could understand the jumble of squiggles and the odd word here and there. Ah, well. Never mind, eh? At least she knew what to do with the things she'd learned.

Nicu looked thoughtful for a moment, as if Nudge had just asked her a terrible hard question, before shaking her head slowly. "Well, I don't think that I've eva been this close to bleedin' to death 'afore." She murmured, rubbing at her eye. "Almost died 'o infection once though...and been stabbed plenty 'o times." She shrugged and continued to mop the floor, sloppily now seeing as most of the blood was up. "Being on a ship ain't all sunshine an' roses. We got pirates to worry 'bout an' there are plenty 'o those on these waters." She told Nudge truthfully. There were lots of pirates about at the moment, but most of them were unorganised and would turn and run as soon as they realised that a crew had a bit of fight in them. It was the major pirates that you had to worry about, those with big ships and bloodthirsty crews; those were the types to send merchant ships like this to davy Jone's locker.
"Ugh, fine, I'll sit down." She rolled her eyes and plonked the mop back in the bucket, making water splash over the sides and onto the floor, going over and clambering up into her hammock with ease, sprawling out there with one leg dangling over the side, the hammock rocking slowly from her disturbing it. "Happy now? Laid down." She sighed, peering over the edge of the hammock at the healer, as if to ask if laying down was acceptable or if a hammock was too 'dangerous'.
"Where'd ya learn to read an' write? No offence but ya don't look like one o' them rich kids." She commented, sounding rather bored now that she had been made to lay down, lazily kicking her boots off, letting them thump to the ground. "So who taught ya?" Yes, it was Nicu's turn to be a little bit curious now. Well, if Nudge was healing her she wanted to make sure that she knew what she was doing and wasn't going to make a mistake. They said healing energy was powerful stuff and could do all sorts of damage to your insides if it wasn't used properly.

"Oooh, pirates? Really?" Well, it wasn't as though she was going to cower in fear at the idea of cold-blooded killers coming on board and slicing their throats without a moment's hesitation, right? That would be too normal for Nudge. "For real? Are they as bad as everyone says? And do they really talk like that? 'Arr mateys', and all the rest of it?" she grinned brightly, giggling to herself as she tilted her head over at Nicu. "Well, if this is the first time you've almost bled to death then I'm really, REALLY glad I was here. Even though it's my fault you got stabbed in the first place... I'm sorry, by the way." she frowned a little guiltily at the floor for a second, sighing to herself. She hadn't meant to get Nicu in trouble, or stabbed, or to even find out her secret. It had been a really 'interesting' day, hadn't it?
"Much better, thank you." she was jerked out of her thoughts as Nicu moved to lie down, the girl admittedly looking relieved now, not having to worry about her keeling over and having to catch her and be crushed or something just as bad. She smiled a little at her question, leaning back against the wall to think, a little frown crossing her face as she thought. "I'm definitely not one of those rich kids." she giggled to herself, shaking her head, "Far from it; I'm an orphan from Tsukaan, one of the villages along the Great River in Avalas. I doubt you've heard of it, it's so tiny. There was an old sage there, who taught me the basics of reading when I decided I wanted to become a healer - you can't learn much from books if you can't read them after all, right?"
She paused for a moment then, as though thinking about the wise old man and how he was doing, before suddenly realising she'd drifted off and returning to her explanation. "Oh! Well, when I left Tsukaan I started to travel to the bigger towns, and once I'd found a book I liked or needed to read I'd pay a scholar to help me read it, until I could do it on my own. I find reading easy enough, it's the writing I can't get my head around, so I just make up my own words." she shrugged, "As long as I can read it I don't suppose it's a problem. I'll get 'round to writing one day, I expect." she smiled.

At her comments about priates Nudge recieved another of those looks from Nicu that told that she thought that the girl had lost her marbles. How could she be so optimistic about pirates? She really must be a bit dim not to be afraid of them and to talk about them as if they were some sort of joke. "I dunno, they dun't talk right much when they're tryin' to kill ya'. And if ya' call rape, murder and pillagin' bad then I guess they must be as bad as the stories say." That came out a little more blunt than she had intended, but pirates had always touched a raw nerve when it came to Nicu. If it weren't for them she wouldn't be where she was now...and her father wouldn't be dead...and she wouldn't be a disfigured and cold hearted sailor stuck pretending to be a boy. No, she had rather to hate pirates for, didn't she? "Ya dun't 'av anythin' to be sorry for. Ya only won the game." Nicu shrugged and looked away from her now, burring her face in her arms, which were folded in front of her in the hammock. It was hard to tell if she were listening or not as the little healer told her story, not moving or making any sound to say that she understood or anything. However, she must have been listening seeing as she commented after. "Ahhh right. That explain's it then." She murmured, her voice muffled. It was unclear quite what that all explained, but it must have cleared something up in Nicu's head. Well, it had explained how Nudge knew as much as she did, didn't it? And also why she was on the ship too, but not why she was so damned optimistic and happy. "Nah, I was never no good with words either." She confessed, turning her head to peek up from her arms at Nudge. With her scar hidden like that and her hair falling into her face it was pretty obvious that she was a girl, all be it a scruffy and probably malnurished one, but a girl none-the-less. She might even have been pretty if you cleaned her up and shoved her in a dress. She'd never be able to really act like a girl though, would she? Not after pretending for so long.

Well Nudge had never really met a pirate before, had she? For all she knew the rumours could be wrong, but she wasn't quite that dense, and she realised there had to be at least some seeds of truth to all of the hype. "But surely not all pirates can be that bad." she frowned a little, drumming her fingers absently along the wood of the cabin wall, thinking to herself. "I mean, haven't you ever met a decent pirate? One who didn't try to rape and pillage? Or maybe he did, he just didn't want to do it...?" she shrugged. Maybe one day they'd get to meet pirates, and she could judge them for herself. She knew it was a hard life on the ocean anyway, maybe the pirates couldn't help what they did, but the circumstances called for it? Hm.
"Explains... it?" she tilted her head at the sailor, looking rather bemused at that statement. Nicu was somewhat of an enigma when she wanted to be, wasn't she? But Nudge didn't press on it, merely shaking her head and sighing, glancing around the cabin to see if the blood was mostly gone from the floor, seeming satisfied when the wooden boards were clean... well... as clean as they were going to get right now. "You can't write well either?" she smiled at Nicu's last comment, seeming even a little relieved at that. So she wasn't the only one that found writing to be stupidly difficult. Reading she was fine with, she'd taken to that naturally... but actually making little squiggles of her own seemed like an impossible task.
She looked up after a while, unable to resist a light smile as she watched Nicu in the hammock. It seemed even more obvious that she was female since she already knew, but the little healer couldn't help but wonder how she'd kept her secret all of these years without someone finding out. But she wasn't going to ask, that seemed a little rude especially considering that she hadn't known Nicu for all that long, and she'd only known she was a girl for an hour at the most. So she kept quiet.

Unlike Nudge, Nicu had met more than her fire share of pirates in her times on the seas, and she was unable to vouch for their honour. "If they weren' a bunch of greedy, thievin' scum with a lust fo' blood then they would be like all the rest o' us." She mumbled, an edge of hatred to her voice. Well, Nicu had reason to hate pirates, didn't she? It was part of the reason why she had stayed on the boats for all this time, no matter how difficult this life was. She was ruled by a lust for revenge, and with every pirate that she killed it made her feel just that little bit better about her situation. "There ain't a good 'un among all o' 'em." She informed Nudge with a shake of her head. No, in her opinion they were the vermin of the sea and she felt no sympathy for them at all.
"Nah, I was never no good at writin'." She shrugged to the healer, letting her eyes close as the hammock swung slowly with the rhythmic rocking of the ship. She looked rather at peace there, almost looking as though she would drop off to sleep, but that illusion was broken as she spoke again. "My letters were always all wobbly 'n' everythin'. Can write my name though...just about." She told her with a nod of her head, seeming rather proud about that. Well, not many aboard the ship could sign their own names, most didn't have need to do such a thing. It was one thing that had stuck with her all this time, how to write her name and how to read. Well, she wasn't excellent at reading, but as long as it was simple stuff she was fine. She supposed that kind of thing wasn't the type of stuff that your mind forgot how to do.
To tell the truth, there had been many close encounters where she had almost been found out, and if it hadn't been for a bit of quick thinking then her secret would have been out. It was exceedingly difficult to keep a secret like that, especially now that she had reached maturity. It wasn't just her figure that she had to attempt to hide, but also that unfortunate and annoying thing that happened once a month. When it had first started she had thought that she was dying, and seeing as she was surrounded by men it wasn't as if anyone had told her that it was just a natural thing. It was just a good job that they were at port when it started and she had been able to find a female healer to talk to. She had been given something to make it stop, and as long as she stocked up on that potion every time she was at shore everything should be ok. Still, being a woman on a ship full of men was difficult, though it was easier to keep her gender hidden now that she had a room of her own.

"I can write my name, that was the first thing I learned how to do... And the last." Nudge giggled and nodded. Well... that was a half-lie, really. She could write 'Nudge' clearly and coherently, with no problem... but writing Elena Brennan was a little out of her reach. Oh, well... it wasn't as though anyone actually knew or cared about her real name, was it? They were quite content to call her Nudge, and she was content to let them. "You look tired." the little healer commented after a few moments with a little smile as she watched Nicu; it was understandable, after all, it had only been a few minutes before that she'd almost bled to death. Even with replaced blood and healed wounds, you still tended to feel fatigued.
"I'll let you rest, alright?" she nodded to herself, as if deciding the very fact, "It was nice meeting you, Nicu. I'm glad you're okay after being stabbed like that. But I can't help but hope that the other guy is okay. Even though he hurt you bad, I think he came off the worst after your fight." she smiled a little - this was unusual, Nudge never usually found any kind of pleasure or amusement in someone being fought and beaten. Ohhh, Nicu was going to be a bad influence on her, wasn't she? It was unlikely the sailor would actually be able to break the little healer's moral code of unrelenting justice, but Nudge was still only really a child at the end of the day. And a naive, influential child to boot.
"Well, goodnight, Nicu." she smiled over her shoulder, moving from the wall now to step over the drying floorboards and head towards the door of the cabin. She glanced over her white cloak absently, checking if it had been marked by blood or dirt or anything. She wouldn't have minded since it would have been to save Nicu's life, but still. White had a tendency to attract dirt more than all of the other colours, didn't it? Smirking to herself, she reached out to grab the door handle, now wondering whether she would have to sleep with the crew or not. She wouldn't have been surprised, it would be exciting. She hadn't met many other members of the crew yet.

Nicu could write her real name, all of it. Nicolette Maria Haselrig, it was a mouthful but she could write it if she had to...not that she would ever have to write her real name. She had also learnt how to spell 'Nicu' too, just incase the situation arose where she had to sign her alias, not that this happened often. She could remember one occasion where she had to write her name, other than that knowing how to write was useless in a life like hers. "I could prob'aly write all the letters too ya know, but I can't be bothered wi' tha'." She shrugged, nuzzling her face into the hammock, seeming rather comfortable where she was laid. "Not as if I need to write much, is it?" She pointed out in a rather off hand manner.
"Rest?" She asked, sitting up just enough to peek over the edge of the hammock at Nudge as she moved to leave the room. Maybe she was a smidgen tired, but as if she would ever actually admit to that. It was far too early to be sleeping yet. "Am not tired. Just laid down 'cause you want'd me to." She told the girl, tilting her head at her curiously, as if to ask her where she thought she was going. She wasn't tired and she hadn't told Nudge to go anywhere, so where was she slinking off to on her own? Had she not realised yet that the ship was a dangerous place? Plus it was getting late, so half of the crew would probably be drunk...which was an even worse thing for someone like Nudge. It wasn't as if her age would bother the rest of the crew, she was female and that was all that they looked at.
"An' where d'ya think ya goin'?" She demanded as she sat up, foolding her arms over her chest, an oddly protective look in her eyes. "Ya can't sleep wi' the crew, if that's what ya plannin'." She told her with a shake of her head, sounding mildly horrified by the thought of that. "There are spare blankets in the chest. Get 'em out and put 'em on the floor and ya can sleep in here." She nodded and flopped back down in her hammock again. "Better than sleepin' wi' the crew. They snore."

"Well I was going to find somewhere to sleep... I didn't want to intrude." Nudge seemed confused as she turned around from the door, lifting her red-gold brows in surprise as she caught the almost protective glint in Nicu's eyes. It was doubtful that anything could have shocked her more, she'd gotten the impression that Nicu wasn't the type of person to look out for others - she seemed independent and head-strong, not the sort that cared about others. Not that Nudge minded, although in her innocent, justified mind she'd never have even dreamed that the crew would think anything like that, or be capable of such things. It was just strange to see the sailor who only a few hours before had been coarse and anti-social actually want her for company. It wasn't her obligation to look after Nudge, after all.
"If you're sure you don't mind..." she rubbed at the back of her head, nodding softly and moving back into the room before chuckling a little. "How do you know you don't snore?" she grinned brightly, leaning over the chest to heave it open; for someone as petite as Nudge this was quite a task, but she eventually managed to retrieve the blankets, folding one up to use as a pillow and setting it down a little way away from the hammock, the other being used as the actual blanket. The chest snapped closed with only a little tug from the healer, Nudge smiling over at her again. "Or, even worse, what if I snore, huh?" she giggled. "Oh, you have to tell me if I snore, okay? I'd feel guilty if I was keeping you up!" she pushed a lock of red hair from her face.
It wasn't long before the little healer was curled up on the boards near Nicu's hammock, her white cloak removed and folded to sit on top of the chest, so it didn't get dirty. She seemed rather amused by the rolling and drifting of the ship as it ploughed through the waves, and she wouldn't be at all surprised if she ended up rolling all over the cabin during the night in her sleep, ending up somewhere near the door in the morning. "Thank you." she murmured to Nicu with a light smile, hiding a yawn behind her hand and curling up. Well, it certainly had been an interesting day for her...

Well, Nicu was independant and head-strong, but that didn't mean that she was just going to leave Nudge to the crew, did it? She did have a conscience somewhere in amongst all that stubborn arrogance and if she hadn't told Nudge that she could stay that annoying little voice in her head would have nagged at her until she got up and dragged the little healer back to where she could watch her. Afterall, Nicu knew how hard it could be on a ship without someone to watch out for her, especially if you were female. The crew didn't exactly think very highly of women, seeming to think that they were only useful for one thing. Psht, stupid men, she supposed that living away from the real world for the biggest part of the year allowed them to keep such ideas without some woman putting them in their place. Nicu had seen angry women and she had to admit that even she found them rather intimidating. "'Course am sure, now stop arguin'." She told her with a roll of her eyes. "Not as if ya'll find anywhere better t'sleep anyways." She mumbled and shrugged to the healer, settling back in her hammock comfortably. "Used to share a cabin with someone 'n he never said I snor'd." She yawned to Nudge, nuzzling her face against the corse material of the hammock, seeming lulled by it's gentle rocking. "An' if ya snore I'll be sure to tell ya." She nodded to her, glancing down at the healer one last time, as if to check that she was alright, before letting her eyes slip closed. She was rather tired really, putting that down to almost bleeding to death seeing as she hadn't really done anything else today.
