"Uh... Kamui." He said, reaching out slowly and taking the black box. "<You>?" He said, sniffing the box and lightly shaking it by his ear. 'Somethin' metal inside...' He opened it and found a cluster of gears inside, which took from the box. "Um... danke?" But then of their own accord the gears began to turn and click and whir. Kamui and Yibbles watched curiously, Sakurako watched warily. The gears started to take shape in Kamui's hand and it wasn't long before a life-sized clockwork squirrel sat upon his hand. It made a series of clicks that mimicked the chittering of a real squirrel. "Oooh." Kamui held it up for a closer look. It immediately stopped clicking, but its mouth remained open. "Huh..." Suddenly a tiny fireball shot at from its mouth at Kamui. "Gah!" He tilted his head, and the fireball flew by, then tossed the squirrel. Sakurako growled and took a swipe at it.
(Heh. A fire breathing robotic squirrel...)

((...There are not words to describe how awesome that is, Kamui. xD))
"...<I don't know.>" she looked at him in amusement as he asked her what her name was, as though it was common knowledge that she didn't have to remember it all of the time. While he played with the little box she rummaged around in the pockets of her tool belt and eventually pulled out a ragged strip of paper, looking at it curiously before nodding in satisfaction.
"Ah! Breanna." she smiled vaguely, stuffing the paper back into its little leather pocket, "<My name is Breanna. Or the Maester. Idunnoitwasalongtimeago>." she grumbled the last part under her breath, scowling faintly. Although she looked up when the little cluster of gears formed to make the squirrel, her baby, crooning in delight when it chattered to him. She even squeaked excitedly at the fireball, bursting into applause. "Oooooh, she must like you. Never done that before." she blurted in Common, watching it skid across the floor in amusement as he threw it.
As it landed the cluster of gears seemed to shatter before reforming themselves, and soon a robotic hand was in the place of the squirrel, which leapt from the floor without too much trouble to pat the wolfdog on the head experimentally. "Never done that a'fore either... must really like you."

"Huh?" He looked away from the gears and toward the Gnome. He gave a small grin as she read her name from the paper. "Maester...?" What Gnome wasn't a bit eccentric, he thought, but if half the stories he had heard about the Maester were true, then that Gnome took the cake for eccentricity. He started to wonder what he might have gotten himself into by stopping here, if Breanna was the real Maester. He looked back as Sakurako continued to growl at gears. She snapped her teeth at it. Meanwhile, Yibbles was watching the gears with wide-eyed curiosity. "<Heh. It can shape shift.>" He chuckled a bit, more amused then alarmed by the gears. "<So, you built that thing, Breanna?>"

The mechanical hand whipped its fingers out of the way of Sakurako's sharp teeth, not wanting anything to do with it and scuttling across the floor on its fingertips before collapsing into a pile of gears once again. Breanna watched it with unhidden fascination; she knew when she'd built it and had gotten the attitude that it didn't know what it wanted to be that it was going to be very interesting, and this was only proved when the gears sprung to life again to make a minute clockwork Jack-in-the-Box sort of thing, a metallic tune beginning to play as its tiny handle turned round and round. It, like Breanna could be amusing or even beneficial one minute, and rather dangerous the next.
"<Mm, looks like it>." the Gnome grinned, impatiently brushing a lock of hair out of her face and waiting for what jumped out of the Jack-in-the-Box. "...<I believe I did, yes. It's been in that box a rather long time though. I haven't had so many visitors lately, after Mechanical Sam>." she pouted, folding her arms and glancing towards a slumped shape in the corner of the workshop covered with a white sheet, a rather accusing look on her face.

Yibbles continued to stare at the gears as they took their new shape, apparently almost as fascinated as Breanna. The piglet seemed entranced by the box's tune and began to move towards it. He was stopped, however, by a wary wolfdog. It had shot a fireball, so who knew what would pop out of the box this time? Sakurako wasn't about to let Yibbles get too close to it. <"That's impressive."> Kamui commented, watching the tiny handle turn. <"I know a bit of smithin', but could never make somethin' like that."> He curiously followed her gaze toward the corner. <"...Mechanical Sam?">
(Sorry about the wait.)

"<Smithin', huh>?" she looked over at him, distracted for a second, nodding lightly, "<All plays its own part in inventing stuff, though>." she shrugged, her attention quickly drawn back to the jack-in-the-box as the top lifted and and a large, spiked metal ball popped out and slammed with surprising force into the ground, leaving a dent. "<Guess it's not in such a good mood anymore>." Breanna figured, shrugging and leaving it to it's own devices, turning to look once more over at the covered sheet, narrowing her eyes.
"<Yeah, Mechanical Sam>." she muttered, making an unimpressed sounding noise. "<Failure, he turned out to be. Last time I try to fuss over a machine that looks like a person. He was too HOLLOW, and he had a likeness for stealin' small children and putting them in the fireplaces. He was meant to be a helper; y'know, for people. Bah!>" she cursed the sheet, shaking her head and ignoring the sharp scraping noise from her workshop (the clawed contraption was scraping its metal claws together in a bid to get noticed).
((It's okay, take your time. =]))

The loud and sudden sound of the spiked ball smashing into the ground caused the little piglet to jump. "<Hmm. Yeah, guess not.>" Kamui scratched the back of his head, looking at the spiked ball, before turning toward the sheet. "Um..." He blinked. "<That's not... good. I certainly hope they weren't lit at the time! But a machine that looks like a person, huh? That sounds incredible."> Kamui marveled at the idea of a humanoid machine for a moment. Meanwhile, Yibbles had forgotten about the box and was now approaching the workbench, looking up with wide-eyed curiosity at the clawed contraption. Again, the piglet was stopped by a protective Sakurako. But then it caught Kamui's attention and he approached the workbench. "<Say, what's that thing?>" He inquired of Breanna and reached out again as if to poke it. Sakurako shook her head and sighed.

"<Some of 'em weren't, but a couple were. I guess it was the principle of it all that made people dislike him more>." Breanna shook her head at the sheet covered thing, before getting distracted again as the clawed contraption snapped at Kamui as he drew close to it.
"<I don't think it knows what it wants t'be>." Breanna admitted with a manic little giggle as she moved to the workbench again and took up one of her tools to play with the clawed thing, which at least calmed down slightly once she was paying attention to it again. "<I think when I'm finished it'll be a helper of some kind... albeit a rather reluctant one>." she smirked, before looking up at him. "<Be a dear, would you, and fetch me the big 'ol hammer on that desk there>?" she asked, pointing across the barn to a long desk with a heavy looking hammer upon it.

"<That's... that's horrible! Oh, those poor kids!> Kamui began bawling and crying into his arm. "<So sad! I pray they were plucked out in time, and if they weren't...>" Sakurako kicked him in the shin with her hindleg. He sniffed and looked up, "I know what ya' told me about being so dramatic, but-but-but it's just so sad..." Sakurako shook her head and sighed. "Fine, fine..." Kamui composed himself and walked over to the table, picking up the hammer in one hand. "<This one, right?" He walked back over and held the hammer out for Breanna to take.

((Oh, no, really! It's okay, it's really great to actually have a RP where I can just post instead of having to spend hours to write for one single thread! You don't need to feel inadequate about your post size, Kamui. XD))
Breanna actually seemed disturbed by his empathy towards the children who had been shoved into the fireplaces by her contraption, not really able to determine whether he was joking or whether he really did feel that much compassion and sorrow towards what had happened. She would never understand people, not if she lived to be a million years old. She watched him as if he might be ill as he went to fetch her hammer, uttering a light curse as the clawed thing seemed to realise that it wasn't getting attention any more and took the opportunity to nip at her fingers with one of its claws.
"Ouch!" she scowled down at the thing, shaking her bleeding hand and narrowing her eyes a little, turning back to face Kamui and nod a little as he brought the hammer over. "<Thank ye kindly. And I think the kids were alright... little singed, perhaps. But s'all apart of childhood, ain't it? Climbing into fireplaces and breaking arms falling out of trees and all that>." she shook her head and took the hammer, staggering a little under its weight before quite suddenly hoisting it up and bringing it down on one of the thing's claws. "<It's got too many of 'em. Not useful in a machine>." she shook her head.

"<Ah, that's good.>" Kamui sighed in relief. "<I'm glad they weren't really hurt, speaking of which...>" He watched her smash one of the contraptions claws. "<Ya' seem ta' speak of your machines as if they're sentient. They certainly move of their own accord. I'm curious if smashin' it with a hammer is painful for it? Also, may I see your injured hand?>" He held out an open palm.

"<Sentient? It's a difficult kind of thing to think about... they move on their own, but that's only 'cause that's what I built them to do>." she shrugged, rubbing the back of her head as she looked down at the clawed thing, who was wriggling with one of its claws now missing. "<They've got personalities, if that's what you mean. I can talk to them, and they talk back. Dunno if it means that they're alive, though.>" she murmured, picking up the mangled claw that was now half wrapped around the hammer. "<Doubt they feel pain though. If they did they'd scream. This one seems happy enough.>" she gave a crazed little smirk down at the contraption which, indeed, seemed rather content as it snapped its claws up at them.
"<Mm...? My hand?>" she tilted her head at him, looking suddenly very suspicious before, reluctantly, she stretched out her hand, still bleeding a little from where the machine had caught here.

"<Personalities, huh?>" He watched the clawed contraption for a moment, briefly contemplating what made something 'alive'. "<How interesting.>" Then he turned his attention to her hand. Taking her hand gently in his own, a warm glow emanated from his hands for but a moment. He released her hand. "<Feel better?>"

(('Tis okay, Kamui. XD))
"<Mmhm, real interesting. Some of 'em can be little monsters, but others are docile and>--" she paused to let a low boom of thunder shake the roof of the farm house, rain lashing against the door and threatening to break it in. When everything seemed to have calmed itself back down (well, as calm as it would get in a storm) she spoke again, "--<quiet>." she smiled up at him.
Breanna seemed momentarily dumbstruck as he healed her hand, snatching it back and rubbing at the place where the cut should be, before tilting her head at him. "You healed me." she blurted in Common, looking bewildered, before a light smile lit up her face. "Guess it does feel better, yeah." she nodded, still tinkering with the clawed thing before looking back at him.
"<You said you're a traveller. Where you travelling to?" she asked curiously. Breanna didn't get out much. Only to test things, but other than that she was your average crazy recluse.
