Vyncent was vaguely aware that the Gnomes had stopped speaking in their gibberish language, although his attention was focused mainly on Evelyn currently, the demon lifting a silvery brow and tilting his head as she bit at his coat sleeve. What did she think he was, her personal travelling wardrobe? Rolling his eyes in mild irritation, he took no care in the fact that she was in his lap as he rose to his feet, brushing himself off from the stray pieces of grass and other spores that had gathered on his clothes, before gazing down at the cat with unhidden contempt. "This is the last time, got it?" he murmured to her, voice low, before shrugging out of the red coat and unceremoniously dropping it onto the feline, before his interest moved elsewhere. Someday, he decided, he'd play a game of 'Hide Evelyn's clothes', and she'd have to leave for days just to find them again. Then perhaps he could keep his garments to himself.
He glanced over at Flick suddenly, that little feeling of unease that told him that someone was watching him settling over his shoulders, even if it was only for a second or two. He didn't look in time to catch the Gnome's glance, though a light frown made its way across his face as he watched them and the boat both. Ugh, the contraption looked as though it might actually be saved... but what then? To be honest Vyncent had no idea where to go from here, as long as it was far, far away from Valley Town. He didn't even care if they took the boat, they seemed to be out of the danger zone of being chased for now at least.

She mewed in surprise as the leg that she was sitting on was soon vertical instead of horizontal, managing to jump away before she fell flat on her face. Stupid Vynce, that was the last time that she sat on him; well, unless it was muddy or there was nowhere else for her to sit, of course. She couldn't be expected to sit somewhere cold, dusty and uncomfortable. Her whiskers bristled as she looked up at him, hissing at him in annoyance before the coat suddenly swamped her. Her reaction to that was rather amusing actually, giving a slightly worried sounding mew this time as she wriggled around under the coat, the only part of her which was visible was her tail, which was flicking around almost in panic behind her.
Then, she was suddenly a person again. When she first started to change it looked almost like the coat was coming to life, rising up swiftly, almost as if inhabited by a ghost. Then Evelyn's head popped out of the top, hair all ruffled up. However the sleeves were too long for her hands to come out of the ends of them. She shook her hands down to the ends of the sleevs before swiftly buttoning the coat up, smoothing it out once she was done before turning her attention up to Vyncent to smile brightly. "Thanks." She nodded to him, reaching into the pocket to retrieve her bracelets, the little circles of metal jingling around her wrist cheerily. "I wish they'd hurry up, I'm booooored." She complained and sighed, shooting an annoyed look across at gnomes on the boat before looking back up at Vyncent rather expectantly, as if to ask him why he wasn't amusing her.

Nefwyn could tell by Flick's countenance that he was in thought, so she let him ponder about Evvie and Vyncent as they continued fixing the boat. After Flick took his turn and finished up the repairs, she turned to announce it to the pair.
"Boat's fixed," she said shortly, speaking in Common again. She handed Flick the borrowed tool and grinned. "Thank you."
Now what? Nefwyn inquired inwardly. Do they have errands of their own they need to go about, or will they follow me, too? Evvie seems nice enough, but Vyncent... scares me. She cautiously made her way to the other end of the boat and looked at them expectantly, as if they should already know the questions she didn't even speak and have answers prepared for her.

"Anytime," Flick smiled, slotting the tool back into his harness in accordance with the faded tag stuck to the metal. "Good work!"
Whipping out another infectious grin, Flick took hold of the handle on the end of the starter cord with his small, Gnome hands, and bracing one foot against the motor to keep it still gave it a tremendous tug. The motor roared into life like a reluctant bull - slow to begin with, but unstoppable once it can build up momentum. Flick grabbed the bucking machine, and after a brief tussle finally wrestled it into stillness. It was definitely working, though, as evidenced in its technological vigour and the chemical smell that filled the air as it began to use its fuel supply up. In a brief moment of inspiration, Flick checking the tank. To his relief, it was almost full. More than enough to get them to pretty much anywhere downstream of their position on the Great River - and Flick had the money (a rare occurrence) for more fuel to get them to the few places they couldn't, if they needed to.
Whereas Nefwyn - or Serendipity, as he knew her - moved off to the other side of the boat, Flick stayed near the motor. He was notoriously protective of things he'd built or repaired, and by sitting next to it he could make sure neither of the strangers (Serendipity, by Flick's scale, had already moved up to the position of acquaintance) broke it... again. And he could steer, too, if he could remember how. Growing up in the island nation of the Gnomes, he had experience with boats, but it had been years since he had captained one.
"So," he asked cheerfully, "where are we off to?"

Suddenly finding himself in the (not-so) unusual position of being stared at by three pairs of eyes at once, Vyncent casted his gaze to the boat, as if to dare it to actually be fixed. By the discouraging purr of the motor, however, he figured that it wasn't going to be possible that it was still broken. At one point he'd have rather had his journey take twice as long by foot than even dream of going anywhere on the river... but as of late he'd found his abhorrence of the water to be a rather mundane part of his life. Not that he didn't hate it any less; he was just forced to put up with it more. So if the vessel was fixed, all the better. He could get to wherever he was going faster. Brushing past Evelyn ever-so-slightly and tugging at the sleeve of his shirt, he finally spoke up.
"I don't know where we're off." he put in with what could possibly be seen to be a light shrug, "Wherever the boat takes us, I suppose. Or," he shifted his gaze to Nefwyn quite deliberately, "Wherever you want it to take us." It was true that he hadn't been able to understand a single word of the exchange between the two Gnomes, but the tone of voice and body language were a little more difficult to disguise, and he had deciphered that whatever was being discussed was probably important.
Saying nothing more, he followed and stepped into the boat again, his shudder at the water lapping at the wood barely noticeable now. "Come on, Evelyn."

Evelyn raised her gaze to look up at the boat as she heard Nefwyn's voice, tilting her head to the side. It was fixed? That was rather fast. She had been expecting to be stuck on dry land for at least a few hours. Not that she minded, of course, it would be good to be on their way again, no matter where they were going; Evelyn wasn't really a fan of staying put. If they'd have been stranded for too long she would probbaly have ended up wandering off to hunt and getting lost and spending days just trying to find their little group again. She didn't want to lose them and be on her own again, especially after Vyncent had promised that he would stay with her until she died. It was nice to have a little band of friends for a while.
She trotted along after Vynce as he walked, lifting up the bottom of the coat a little as she stepped through the shallow water and clambered up into the boat, not wanting to get the coat wet. "Let's go on an adventure!" She exclaimed and smiled rather cheerfully, moving over to her little pile of clothes, turning her back on them as she swiftly dressed. Evvie was rather talented at dressing without letting anyone see even an inch of flesh, fully dressed in minuted without having to remove Vyncent's coat.
"That's better." She murmured to herself as she smoothed out her shirt and skirt before moving back to stand by Vynce, looking to Nefwyn again. He was right, she did seem like she had something in mind. Plus, the fact they had found her floating on the Great River suggested that something bad had happened to her and that meant that she would want revenge too, right? Oh, and she might want to get all her tools back too."

Nefwyn felt everyone looking at her and instantly became rather nervous. She wasn't very good at hiding things and they were making it increasingly difficult for her not to spit out everything that had happened. Were they really willing to go with her? She thought it was a nice gesture, but she wasn't sure that she wanted anymore attention drawn to the blueprints than absolutely necessary. But if she kept it a secret and they risked their lives (yes, risked their lives, for she was entirely unaware of how dangerous Vyncent could be, though she had a vague idea) to help her reacquire it, they would be angry if they found out. She thought she could trust Flick, but she didn't know about Vyncent, and Evelyn would surely be with Vyncent, whatever he chose. She cleared her throat.
"I... suppose... if you're... bored," she squeaked, then cleared her throat again. Her voice was calmer and less high-pitched this time. "There are some bandits... I'd like to get my things back. But you don't have to put your lives at stake for me." She smiled nervously, the right corner of her lip twitching ever-so-slightly.

Flick clapped his hands together in a satisfied manner. "Well, I'll certainly go with you," he offered - no, not offered, as there was little room for her to decline. "My life is yours to command, milady," he intoned with mock solemnity, bowing over the spanner held at his waist. If he were to be honest with himself, charity only accounted for perhaps a fifth of his eagerness. To be fair, he did feel bad for her loss, and wanted to help her get back her tools - but he wanted to get to know her a bit better, make a new friend and have an adventure as well... not to mention the fact that his tinkerer's nose smelled treasure somewhere down the line, and he was determined to find out what it was. Not that he'd ever steal from Serendipity of course... would he?
The other two, Flick didn't feel so comfortable with. There was something very feral about the way Evelyn behaved (although he supposed it made sense, what with her turning into animals) and the pale-skinned, red-eyed Vyncent put him entirely on edge. But, he decided, if he was going to invite himself along for Serendipity's adventure it would be entirely hypocritical for him to resent them for coming along as well, as much as he might have preferred it if the dangerous pair stayed on the shore. Perhaps they didn't like boats...

"Bored is one way of putting it." Vyncent told her shortly, casting a glance back up the river towards were Valley Town was, hopefully with less commotion following them by this time. That particular town just seemed to hate them and he had no idea why, but he'd decided that getting away from it quickly was still his top priority. "Let's just say the sooner we get away from here, the better." he murmured eventually, his gaze flitting back down to the Gnome, nose twitching a little as the smell of burning fuel from the motor drifted past him; ah, there was another thing on his to do list. Glancing across to Evelyn, he gave her a faint smile that was clearly not as friendly as it looked.
"You're not going to touch that again. Are you?" he pointed to the motor with a frown, it sounding much more like a statement than a request. If she broke the thing again not only would he be throwing her into the water, but he'd be holding her under there too.
He even gave a light chuckle at Nefwyn's mentioning of them 'putting their lives at stake', the demon smirking down at her. "It's nothing. Trust me when I tell you that a couple of bandits aren't going to make much of a difference to me. Let's go." It was odd hearing him say the word 'trust' in any sense, but when he used it in reference to himself it automatically sounded like a lie.

Evelyn didn't particularly seem to be paying any attention to this conversation at all. Her attention span was only rather short, and seeing as she would just follow whatever Vyncent decided she didn't particularly need to be part of this conversation. She didn't mind where they went as long as they set off soon, it wasn't as if she had any long term plans about what she was going to do with her life. She guessed that Vyncent would come up with all that stuff and she would just play along. In the long run she didn't mind as long as she had a bit of compay.
She was humming one of her tuneless songs to herself as she let her gaze drift off down the river in the direction of the Valley Town, wondering if they had managed to get all that blood out of the town square when her thoughts were interupted by the sound of the demon's voice. She smiled to him innocently as she looked up at him, as if she hadn't done anything wrong in the first place. "Me? Touch the motor? Why would I do such a thing?" She smirked before moving to sit at the opposite end of the boat to the repaired motor, looking up at Vyncent as if to ask if she was far enough away from it. "I promise I won't. It's boring anyway." She shrugged and pouted.
Her gaze flickered between Flick and Nefwyn, the expectant look in her eyes showing that she thought that they should know where they were heading, therefore they should hurry up and set off.

Nefwyn shifted her weight, feeling rather heavy under the gaze of her three new companions, or maybe she was just exhausted. Her cheeks grew a rather red at Flick's statement and she instantly looked at Vyncent as he spoke. His voice just seemed to command one's attention without trying.
"It's nothing. Trust me when I say that a couple of bandits aren't going to make much of a difference to me. Let's go," he had said. She believed him without even thinking, but she didn't feel assured in the least by his words, only a little more frightened of him. She was so preoccupied with her fear, as a matter-of-fact, she didn't even bother with getting offended by Evelyn's comment that the beautiful piece of inarguable magnificence that was the motor was boring. She cleared her throat.
"I'm... actually waiting for... someone," she mumbled pathetically, wishing that they weren't looking at her. She cleared her throat. "She should be here momentarily. I can feel it..." She could feel that niggling bit of animal consciousness in her mind, but Miracle wasn't close enough to speak through their arcane mind connection yet.

Flick's hands flew instantly to the motor as Vyncent spoke to Evelyn about it, as if he thought the very mention of its name between the two of them would cause it to instantly combust. As she called it boring he stroked it gently as if to reassure it, as if it could hear the cat-girl-shifter-thing's cruel abuse. But it couldn't, and that was what was so enchanting about machines. They didn't mind what you said to them, what you did to them - as long as you treated them right and paid attention to their needs, they would huff happily on for as long as you needed them to. They, Flick had long ago decided, were the most reliable companions you could have - certainly more reliable to the full-grown cat-child and the 'bandits-are-no-problem-MUAHAHA-red-eyes' creepy thin man.
Flick glanced at Nefwyn curiously as she spoke, fleetingly, of her companion. Or so he assumed - who else would she be waiting for? Certainly not the bandits that had tossed her into the river in the first place. He resisted the urge to say anything: a series of long, difficult lessons had taught him that sometimes (but only occasionally!) it was better not to say anything at all. But that was, in actuality, often too hard for Flick. "Okay," he said instead, and turned to the water, opening a pocket of his harness and pulling out what looked like a clockwork cricket. It was simple - or would have been, once - just a toy, and broken. Tinkering with it should be interesting enough to bear however long Serendipity would have them wait.

Vyncent arched an eyebrow at the mentioning that Nefwyn was waiting for someone... he found it odd that anyone could know where she was for her to be waiting for them, considering that they had dragged her, soaking, out of the water in the middle of nowhere. But by the way she said that she could 'feel it' he guessed that this companion of hers probably had some idea of where she was, undoubtedly through means other than those which were physical, so he only nodded lightly and turned to stand at the side of the boat, one hand resting on the hilt of his Amor.
He glanced at Evelyn as she stalked away from the motor, smirking faintly and contenting himself with looking at the forestry beyond the bank of the river. "Your promises don't mean anything." he told the shape-shifter nonchalantly, as though he was used to her protests of innocence. As long as she didn't touch anything like that again, he doubted that he really cared.
The little clockwork... thing that Flick took from one of his pockets briefly caught his attention, although once he saw that it was another of those strange objects that these Gnomes seemed to enjoy fixing for some bizzarre reason, he turned his attention back to the riverbank, as if looking for whatever Nefwyn was waiting for. Although he didn't really have any idea of what he was supposed to be keeping an eye out for.

The shifter actually rolled her eyes as she spotted both Gnomes giving their precious motor a worried look at her comment. They were odd, anyone would think that she was planning on stealing their dinner. It was just a metal box that growled and shivered, she failed to see what all the fuss was about. She had only broken it a little bit in the first place, she would have thought that Vyncent would have been happy to be off the water for a little while.
"My promises mean as much as anyone elses." She huffed at Vycent, folding her arms over her chest as she sat down. "Just so long as I remember them that is...and if I want to keep them..." She added under her breath, pushing her hair back from her face, shooting one last glare at that pesky engine before looking up between Nefwyn and Flick. She wasn't sure quite what to make of the pair of them. Both of them had appeared out of the blue, and Nefwyn seemed to be keeping some sort of secret. Of course she was keeping a secret. They had found her unconsious and floating in the Great River with all of her belongings stolen; of course she had a secret to keep. Evelyn guessed that she had either stolen something from someone or had been carrying something of value, both of which were stupid moves.
"Your...companion? Another person? But we only have a little boat..." She pointed out, gaze swiftly moving to scan over the banks of the river, as if in search for this companion. If they were a big person then their little boat would end up sinking with all the weight. Plus it would be crowded, and Evelyn didn't like crowded. If someone else was joining them then she might just shift into a mouse and hide in Vyncent's pocket until he got rid of them all...that seemed like a good idea.

ooc;; Flick, my friend, that is the most apt description I've yet heard of Vyncent. That is hilarious! I nearly died with laughter! If I ever start up my signature quotes again, I'm definitely putting that one in there. xD
bic;; Nefwyn rocked from her heels to her toes uneasily, wishing her animal friend would hurry up. She didn't like to think what this strange man or his shapeshifting companion would do if they became awfully bored. Wreck the motor again? No, Flick was protecting that, and thank God. Murder an entire village of women and children in cold blood? She didn't know why that came to mind, but, as she chanced a glimpse into his scarlet eyes, it did. She shuddered and turned her face away.
"She's not very big," she assured Evelyn, tapping her foot impatiently.
Finally, a red panda came amongst them. Evelyn lowered herself onto a knee (not that she really needed to) to seemingly speak with the animal. She made no sound, but her expression changed several times. Finally, she stood up again.
"Alright, we'll be heading that way," she said, pointing upriver. "It's not very far, but we'll have to do most of our traveling on foot after we've got there." She patted the red panda on the head and smiled at it affectinately before climbing into the boat again. The red panda leapt after her nimbly, eyeing Vyncent warily before doing so.
