((-nudgednudgedhintedforced- O.o Hey, I've been away for school purposes! I don't generally slack, so here's your darn post XD))
Vyncent looked over his shoulder as Evelyn coiled her tail around the railing, shaking his head a little when she tried to paddle towards the shore. Some days, he thought, it was better not to ask. Asking just hurt his head more. Pushing his silvery hair out of his face, he settled his gaze on the water below him, wrinkling his nose in distaste. Ugh, if this got him wet he would not be pleased. Sighing, he held his left hand up to the water, a concentrated frown on his face. Being adept at magic had its uses, even if it was just getting you from point A to point B. Or in this case, from the depths of the Great River to the shore, either way. The demon closed his eyes, remaining silent for a few moments so it almost looked as though he was meditating, or something equally as unlikely for an extrovert such as Vyncent.
Then a quiet, sleek sounding word escaped his lips, not in any language that could be understood, but even so it sounded almost like a command. The air in front of him shimmered for a moment, and for a few seconds it didn't seem to have worked before the water in front of him began to ripple in the opposite direction to the current. And then they were propelled forward by the gust of wind that expelled from his hand, moving rather swiftly towards the shore hopefully guided by Evelyn while the demon remained motionless, his hand held in front of him still. He only straightened up when they were near enough to the shore, shaking his hand as though it had fallen asleep or gone numb. "Finally." he gazed at the banks of the river, instantly seeming to brighten (not that this was a good thing, he wouldn't be apprehensive to anything now they were back on land).

No matter how hard Evelyn was trying, her paddling wasn't getting them very far. Poor little shifter, at least she was trying to help rather than being all grumpy like Vyncent. Ugh, evil demon, she would get her revenge on him for him throwing her in the river...probably by shaking all the water out of her fur at him and running off so that he couldn't flame her. Yes, that seemed like a rather fitting revenge to her.
The shifter seemed rather bemused as the boat started to move faster, splashing more than she was paddling to keep her head above the water and to attempt to make sure that the boat got to the shore. Well, her rough navigation seemed to work because her paws were soon scraping over the river bed, the tiger then turning to bite the railing that surrounded the boat, the wood splintering under the pressure of those deadly teeth as she dragged the boat back until it was lodged on the river bed so that it wouldn't float back into the middle of the water.
She snapped her teeth at Vynce in annoyance when this job was complete, turning to trudge through the shallow water to the shore, flicking her tail through the water to splash him, growling lowly as if grumbling to herself.

Nefwyn watched Vyncent interestedly as he used magic to give the boat momentum. Then she watched Evelyn snap her teeth at Vyncent, herself jumping a bit and making a small squeak. Then she tried getting off of the boat, eventually toppling onto her butt on dry ground. She shook her hair out of her face and climbed to her feet, examining Flick as she straightened out her still-damp clothes. It wasn't kind to stare, but that was one rule of etiquette that Nefwyn had never seen the need for.
Once again, it was time for a curtsy, but, once again, Nefwyn liked handshakes much better. Curtsies were for all those air-headed girls back at home whose only self-defense strategy was fluttering their eyelashes or screaming madly. How she had loathed the company of those girls.
"Serendipity of Fallic," she announced after she had finished admiring his rather nifty harness. She offered her hand to the other gnome and smiled.

ooc;; Sorry for any crappy spelling errors - I don't have a spellchecking... anything. Flick peered forward interestedly as Vyncent magically propelled the boat towards him, Evelyn - now in the form of a tiger - steering them. With his own eyes, he could barely see more than a few ripples on the surface, but with the right lens... yes - there, that was it - the wavy texture the manipulation of air always seemed to give reality, at least when viewed through his lenses. Magic was fascinating, but in Flick's eyes it could never hold up to technology. Magic was mysterious, strange, inexplicable. Technology, well... you could dissect it, work it out, create it, manipulate it perfectly, but at the same time you could understand it. It was the understanding more than the power that Flick craved. Then the boat ran aground, and Flick darted forward. He was so eager to get at the broken engine that he almost missed Nefwyn completely. He skidded past her, spun on his heel, and shook her hand in one quick motion - that was the sort of thing he'd had the time to perfect. "Flick," he introduced himself with a nod, "of Krallic. Nice to meet you." A slightly gnomish inflection had manged to creep it's way back into his voice in the presence of a fellow gnome. He smiled, waited for what he hoped was a reasonably polite second or two, nodded apologetically towards the boat, and dashed off again. People were all very well - gnomes especially so - but at the moment she couldn't keep up with the raw appeal of a broken engine. He splashed through the water and vaulted elegantly over the side of the boat, sliding slightly along the bench closest to the motor. He picked up the stick Evelyn had used to jam the engine and inspected it critically before using it to prise the crude outer casing off the device. Although Evvie had gotten it stuck down the very bottom, where the gears were exposed, there could easily have been damage caused further up in the motor. He peered critically at the gears for a few moments, his lips moving very fast as he muttered barely audible nothings. "A fair bit of gear damage," he said aloud to nobody in particular. "There are at least two that definitely need replacing... And up here, there's a snapped rod from the jam, and the overheating's caused a few problems..." He grinned - still to nobody in particular. This would be fun.

The demon growled dangerously as the water was splashed at him, narrowly avoiding it by stepping back and almost ending up in the river anyway. He shook his head at Evelyn - he may have deserved that a tiny, little bit, but it still didn't merit a soaking. Glancing up as Nefwyn left the boat, he lifted a brow at the rather rushed conversation between the two gnomes - it seemed that one minute they were alone on the river and the next they were overrun with people... life did strange things to you sometimes, but in this case it did turn out to be a good thing. After all, if Evelyn had murdered the motor of the boat and they had been alone, there would be no telling what would have happened.
Vyncent seemed taken aback as Flick made his way onto the little vessel, knotting his eyebrows together in a rather confused scowl, anything and everything he was saying drifting rather slowly, almost dreamily over the top of his head. Technology simply didn't interest him, he didn't need to know how something was put together as long as he knew what it did. Why anyone would want to know such things was a mystery, but he wasn't going to question the good fortune that had practically called to them from the side of the river. "You do that." he murmured in a low voice to the gnome, stepping past Flick to jump easily from the boat and on to the bank.
This was when it was even more obvious that Vyncent was more at home on the land than in the water, sweeping himself off and pushing his hair back from his face, glancing down at Nefwyn as he did so. He seemed somehow taller than he had while in the boat, and that calculating little gleam was back in his eyes - that dark cheeriness which said he was in a good mood. Perhaps he could even thank Evelyn for breaking the damn motor, but that was stretching it a little. The demon looked over his shoulder only for a moment as if to check that the boat was safely lodged against the bank, and wouldn't go floating off by itself... although he almost wished that it would. Then he stalked off to sit a little further up the bank, scanning the area around them.

Vyncent did deserve a soaking, just like he had given to Evelyn. She hadn't meant to kill the engine, how was the to know that poking it would break it? She didn't know how the thing worked and thus had no idea how to break it, other than smashing it into little pieces...she guessed that would break the engine as well as sticking metal robs into it did. However, this whole business of fixing the engine bemused her. They fed it oil and it moved and grunted like an animal did...so why couldn't Vyncent put his healing balm on there? Surely that would be able to fix the engine like it had fixed her?
The new little person seemed to be taking it apart though? How could he fix it by taking it apart? Oh, now she really was befuddled. Maybe these little people only had little brains and didn't understand how to fix these things?
The tiger sighed heavily as she found a patch of soft grass which was bathed in sun light, casting a glance back to the others before she flopped down and sprawled out, hoping that the warmth of the sun would dry her fur quickly so that she could shift and get dressed again and bother Vyncent. Yes, she still needed her revenge on him for him throwing her in the river...and Evelyn had never been one of those people who could wait for the right moment.

Nefwyn watched as Flick hurried off promptly after introducing himself. She was the understanding sort, and even if she hadn't been she was the tinker sort, so she felt no offense. Most gnomes would have, as their society was a very talkative and entertaining sort and expected warm, open conversations once they introduced themselves, but faced with a broken machine to fix, one couldn't expect that from a gnome at all.
Vyncent seemed a little irritable and Evelyn seemed to have a certain plotting look in her eyes, though who could really tell with tigers, anyway? Whatever the case, Nefwyn climbed in carefully after Flick, doing her best not to rock the boat so that he messed up. If it had been her working on that machine, she probably wouldn't have noticed a slight tilt of the boat at all. Nor a person coming to stand behind her, as she was doing to Flick. She stared over his shoulder at a small but comfortable distance.
It wasn't that she didn't trust him to fix it. Everyone made mistakes, though, and she wanted to be there and make a comment should she need to. Otherwise, she might learn something from the experience, so why not? On top of that, she'd also get to see what tools this gnome might have that she did not. She rather liked his goggles; she'd seen a few other tinkers with them and never had the opportunity to get a pair of her own. She had tried making a pair once, but that had ended miserably, because she had needed goggles to make such an intricate device, and, well, it was an endless cycle and it had ended with her not caring whether the chicken had indeed come before the egg.

Flick payed no attention whatsoever to Vyncent and Evelyn, but flashed Nefwyn a charming smile as she hopped nimbly into the boat beside him. She was company, and Flick liked company… and if he had company, he might as well talk while he worked. He tugged a cog out of the jammed motor, handed it to her without explanation, and did his best to start up a conversation.
“What brings you to Avalas, Serendipity?” he asked casually, pulling a cog of almost the same size from his harness and screwing it onto the axle of the other one. He was aware that if she asked him the same question in return, he wouldn’t be able to explain – it was a strange, restless desire to move, to travel, to be free. His birth animal was a swallow, which probably had something to do with it – most gnomes with avian animal counterparts had similar tendencies, and even as far as birds go swallows were rather… flighty. His had been no exception, and has shared his desire to find knew place, meet new people and discover new things. But the machine demanded immediate attention and gave him little time to ponder such things. “There are a few adjustments that need to be made to the gears, but hardly any are damaged beyond at least temporary use… What do you suppose we can do about the overheating?” he asked Nefwyn, nodding towards the engine. “I guess we’d need a new heat sink, but there’s a bit of damage…” It was as much to keep the conversation flowing as it was needing help – although it would be useful if she had an immediate answer, with a bit of experimentation he could probably have worked it out.

After safely scanning the area around them and confirming that no other prying travellers were going to interrupt (four of them was quite enough, thank you) Vyncent turned his attention back to the boat, and to both Nefwyn and Flick standing in the little structure. Not only did they manage to take the thing apart, they actually looked as though they were enjoying doing it. Ugh, were all gnomes odd in this way? Well, at least they were doing something about the motor, even if that meant that he might have to go back onto the boat. Just a little further down the river and he could be certain that the residents of that God-forsaken town that had decided it didn't like their company weren't going to be able to catch up with them and he'd be fine.
He soon became bored of watching them work, however his curiosity rose at the question Flick asked - indeed, why was Nefwyn in Avalas, or more to the point, why had she been found floating along the Great River like a piece of drift wood, with all of her tools stolen? The demon frowned to himself lightly as he poised himself to listen, although his gaze had drifted to the feline figure of Evelyn stretched out on the grass. He knew all too well she'd be plotting something against him, and he would just have to wait and see what it was. It didn't really bother him as long as this revenge didn't involve the water in any way, shape or form. Then he would have to get nasty. Well. Nastier.

Evelyn was slowly drying as she laid there in the sun, her fur seeming to have a slight wave to it, as her hair would when she shifted back to her human form. That calculating look soon faded from her emerald eyes, replaced by boredom, which was made more obvious as she yawned, flashing those deadly teeth for all to see. She was shrinking now though, those black stripes fading from her fur as she settled into that petite feline form of hers, rolling onto her back to stretch her paws up and into the air, mewing lightly. She was disinterested with whatever those two littl-...um...dwarves, were doing to the motor on the boat.
Her gaze drifted over to Vyncent, a mischevious glint in her eyes as she rolled back and rose to her paws, keeping low as she stalked over toward him, tail sweeping over the ground behind her. Yep, she was stalking his feet again, and then she would demand that he played until the boat was fixed.

"I tend to go wherever my feet carry me," Nefwyn responded. "Rumors of something else to fiddle with brought me here." She decided against mentioning the airship. After all, she had only just met these people. What if they wanted it for themselves? After what had happened earlier today, she was feeling a little less trusting. She listened as he explained what his examinations had told him and looked over his shoulder. "Ah, this is an old bit. If we had the right parts or at least some metal and a smithy, we could just rip it apart, keep the good bits, and build it back up from the ground." She loved the sound of that -- rebuilding things was so much fun -- but they had no smithy, did they? She sighed. "It looks like the fuel they've been using gets hot far too easily. Perhaps we could change it so that it runs on something with more of a tolerance for heat?"

Flick nodded slightly at Nefwyn’s explanation. For him, it quelled all queries; his travel was led by the same wanderlust. There was something about being at the whim of Fate, always ready to set sail to somewhere else. Flick had a house, somewhere, back on his home island, but it was years since he had last been there. The thought of spending all his life trapped within the same four walls rubbed horribly with his adventurous character. And the fact that there were things to play with out in the real world only sweetened the deal, for Flick.
He peered at the motor, his sharp eyes quickly seeking out the section she was talking about. “Ah…” he paused. “Changing the fuel’d work, but I don’t have any alternative with me. Do you?” He chuckled slightly at the thought. “Rebuilding it would really just be easier… ah, can’t be helped. What if we were to re-route the heat distribution suppy? It passes unfortunately close to places it probably shouldn’t…” He pointed. “If we could get the piping to circumvent that part and pass directly into the water, the overheating might not be such a big deal… I mean, there’d still be a risk, but it’d be workable…”

That rare look of... well, utter confusion was making its way across Vyncent's face as they began to ramble about the motor and whatever was obviously inside the box Evelyn had rammed a metal pole into - what the hell were they talking about? He'd only smirked to himself at Nefwyn's explanation about why she was there; that still didn't explain why they'd found her floating around in the water with almost everything she owned stolen, including her tools. Who would bother to steal tools? Surely there wouldn't be another tinkerer around here, that was just too much of a cooincidence.
But he could wait to ask that later, by the looks of things they'd be there a while until the motor was either fixed or completely totalled. However, a dazed look had entered his eyes by now, the demon shaking his head and making a point of clearly NOT listening to whatever they were talking about. It was too confusing, like they were speaking another language!
He turned his gaze instead to the currenly creeping Evelyn, lifting a silvery brow as if to ask her what the hell she thought she was doing. He didn't mind at this point, he was on land again, the boat was miraculously broken there was hardly anyone else around. The demon sat up a little, in a rather good mood now even if it didn't show on his face, reaching out to dangle his fingers over the shape-shifter enticingly, smirking a little.
