Evening was beginning to fall when Roslyn finally realised that she had spent yet another day in a tavern. And this time, she realised, she really hadn't intended to. She enjoyed people watching, the quiet observation making it easy to forget silly things, like time and place and whatnot. And the odd person that wished for her to read their fortunes gave her enough to entertain herself, as well. Not to mention that it earned her a little money. As much as she told herself that it was a job, though, she wasn't in it for the gold. It was the fortune she was interested in, the way the fates had decided to twist things for a certain person.
But it might be time to take her leave, she realised as she stared at the sinking sun. The fading light casted a spear of gold light upon her lovely features, and more than one head turned as she began to gather up her cards. She threw them an icy glare. She should get going, she thought, for the umpteenth time. There was no reason to stay. However, she found herself settling down again. There was no reason to go, either. And there was a nagging suspicion, in the back of her mind, that she might want to stay here a little while longer. Perhaps it was going to rain, she didn't know. She set her cards out again.
"Can I buy ye a drink, sweetheart?" a sailor grunted to her in Common. Roslyn glared up at him contemptuously, amber eyes piercing, a look of disgust on her face. She feigned a sweet smile. "Only if you wish to wake up missing something important." she murmured softly. He might have pressed the issue further, but he was soon distracted by a passing barmaid. Thank goodness for short attention spans.

"Hmm..." Kamui looked up at the setting sun from his spot on a street corner. Dark clouds were beginning to gather, and he could smell the damp, earthy scent of approaching rain. "<What say we call it a day an' go get some dinner?>" The white wolfdog by his side seemed to nod in agreement and roused the piglet dozing on Kamui's rutsack. Kamui pocketed his ocarina and picked up the dented tin cup at his feet. He shook it, listening to the coins rattling around inside.
Several moments later, droplets of rain began to hit the ground. Kamui parted the noren and entered the pub, picked at random from several in the area, with his animal companions. His attention was immediately drawn to an amber eyed woman with a set of tarot cards. 'Hmm... She's like me.' He shrugged and moved to the bar, where he settled himself. Turning his cup upside down, several coins fell onto the counter. He kept one and ordered a cup of tea and as much dango as the rest of the coins could buy. While waiting for his order, he looked over his shoulder, casually glancing at the woman.

Roslyn felt it the second he walked in. Her eyes flashed from the deck of cards she was gently shuffling, confusion written across her pretty face as she watched him cross the pub to the bar. Her gaze briefly flitted to the dark clouds gathering overhead from outside, and she couldn't resist a smirk. She had been right. It was going to rain. But the appearance of this stranger had a much more... meaningful sense to it than a change in the weather. Absently, Roslyn drew one of the cards out of the deck, her eyes on the stranger's back before she glanced down at it. Upright Strength looked back at her.
"Hm..." she sighed, averting her gaze as he looked her way, and putting the card down again, clasping her hands in front of her. She frowned. Why this guy? It was true, he didn't look like your average traveller, but surely fate could nudge her towards something at a more appropriate time? A second, exhasperated sigh escaped her lips. Very well.
She glanced back up at the bar, lifting her hand as if to get his attention, calling him over.

Kamui glanced over his shoulder again and saw the woman raise her hand. He pointed to himself, mouthing the word 'watashi?'. Once the teacup and plate of dango on skewers was placed on the counter, he picked it up and crossed the room to where the amber eyed woman sat. Sakurako and Yibbles followed him. "Konnichiwa." He greeted her, sitting down across from her. He put the plate in the middle of the table. "Dango?" He then took one of the skewers, popping all three dumplings in his mouth at once.

Roslyn smiled in satisfaction as the stranger began to make his way over to where she was sitting, although she did quirk a dark brow at the entourage of creatures that followed him. Nevermind. She was sure there was some explanation. She gave a thin smile as he sat down opposite her, slotting the Strength card back into the deck and returning to her shuffling the cards. She glanced up as the dango was placed in the middle of the table, watching him with an expression that was half bemused, half unimpressed as he ate all three dumplings at once.
"Kekkou desu." she declined politely. "Watashi wa Roslyn desu." she was wondering just why the 'fates', as it were, had planned for her to stick around for this guy to show up. Because she knew now, undoubtedly, that this was who she was supposed to have waited for. Sighing, she held up the cards.
"Your fortune?" she tried in Common, tilting her head.

"What fortune? This is my last coin." He grinned, also switching to Common, and held up the one he had kept. "I'd save it for a rainy day, but it seems to already be raining." He put it down on the table in front of her. "I'm Sy, by the way. It's been awhile since I've seen someone with tarot cards. I'd be interested to hear what they have ta' say for us... Ooh, ooh. Can ya' read Yibbles first?" He grinned and help up the Yibbles for Roslyn to see before placing the small animal on his lap. Kamui gave a dumpling to Yibbles. The piglet rested his chin on the table and looked up at Roslyn with a blank expression as he chewed on the dango.

She gazed down at the coin as he set it on the table, the lightest smirk on her face as she shook her head briefly, reaching out to push the coin back towards him. "For you this one is free. Keep that coin, it might be lucky." she told him, quirking a brow as he set the piglet in his lap, looking down at Yibbles as if wondering what she was supposed to do with him. She blinked. "Of course." she murmured in a quiet voice, taking to shuffling the deck before elegantly spreading it out on the table with a flick of her wrist.
"Would Yibbles like to pick a card?" she asked, a hint of annoyance in her voice.

"All right. I'll save it for the next rainy day then." He said, pocketing the coin. He and Yibbles watched her shuffle and spread the cards. Kamui picked Yibbles up and held him over the cards. The piglet looked at them for a moment before putting his hoof down on one. "He picks that one," Kamui nodded, looking up at Roslyn. He put Yibbles, who continued to watch Roslyn blankly, back in his lap. Sakurako, sitting near Kamui's chair, seemed to watch with a mildly interested expression.

"Yes. I'm sure you'll find a better use for it on another rainy day, that's not today," she agreed with a light nod, glancing out at the rain again and smiling a little. Roslyn might not like going outisde in the rain, but rainy days in general were the best. Once Yibbles had chosen his card and she reminded herself, once again, that she was doing a tarot reading for a piglet, she turned the card over with a flourish.
"The Wheel of Fortune," she observed lightly, "It seems fortune may be either smiling or frowning on Yibbles in the near future. It may be a good event or a bad one that he comes through. He's quite happy-go-lucky, if I do say so myself." she murmured, glancing up at Sy to show him the card.

"Huh..." He looked at the card. "Fortune may be smilin' or frownin' on 'im? That's kinda vague. Ah, well... So, do ya' need ta' shuffle each time, or can me an' Sakurako just pick our cards?"
(Aw, man, that was a terrible post. I'm sorry.)

((Awh, Kamui, don't apologise. If it's any consolation, the smaller posts are easier to reply to. Hee!))
"Yes, the tarot can be vague if it's only a single card reading. The Wheel of Fortune especially so." Roslyn told him, shaking her head. "I suppose it comes with the territory."
She lifted her gaze to meet his as she moved to shuffle the cards again, smirking a little. "Each reading is different. Shuffling each time is important. For Sakurako," she glanced down at the wolf-dog, "I will do a single card reading again. But for you... you are different." she narrowed her eyes. It was an understatement, the number of glances they were receiving in the pub were enough to tell them that they were both 'different'. Roslyn laid out the cards again.
"If Sakurako would like to pick a card..."

"I see, I see." Kamui nodded his head, listening to Roslyn's explanation. He smirked, assuming she was referring to his demonic heritage. "Different, huh? Heh. I think we both are. After all, there's not too many of our type out there." Sakurako, who was about eye level with the table, watched Roslyn spread the cards out. Unlike the piglet, her gaze was clearly intelligent. The wolfdog raised her paw and motioned to the card on the far left.

Roslyn smiled thinly and lifted the tarot card that Sakurako pointed to, revealing it to their strange little group. "Justice." she observed again in a soft voice, "Sakurako is a very intelligent creature. With a rational mind too, it seems. Although perhaps she can be a little detached, or severe, even slightly insensitive to those she doesn't hold close." she murmured, setting the card down once more.
She was distracted by his comment. "Our kind?" she enquired, her tone a little sharper than she had intended. Just what was he referring to, exactly?

Sakurako seemed satisfied with her reading and turned her attention to grooming herself. "Yeah, you know..." Kamui leaned in close and lowered his voice, "Part mortal, part demon..." He shrugged, "So, anyway, my readin' is next, right?"

Roslyn rose to her feet without even realising she'd moved until a few pairs of eyes in the tavern had focused on their little table. The scrape of her chair had been louder than she'd intended it to be, and she glared down at Kamui with smouldering eyes. Without a word she slapped him hard across the face, anger distorting her pretty features. "Don't you lie." she hissed, fists clenching as she stepped back from the table, seeming to have forgotten the tarot cards now. Part mortal, part demon? He couldn't be serious. "Where did you come from?"
