Name: Edward Sharpe
Aliases: Ted, or just E.
Age: He died at the age of 26, and has been dead for two years now.
Race: Ghost (Human)
Gender: Male
Occupation/Class: Poltergeist
Orientation: Heterosexual
Physical Description:
Edward Sharpe liked to think he was a colourful man when he walked the path of the living, but his world has since been plunged into monochrome. It is something that he still needs to accustom himself to. Dark of hair and eye even when he had a pulse, Edward cut a handsome figure and makes an equally as handsome ghost. His smile is cheeky, his laugh contagious, and at a healthy 5’9 with the toned, athletic build of a man who did a lot of exercise, he is striking to look at.
Unfortunately, being a ghost means that anything about Edward that wasn’t black or white before certainly is now. Vaguely translucent in direct sunlight and stuck in the clothes he died in; Edward can’t help but wish he had chosen something brighter to wear when he kicked the bucket. In a pair of black slacks that are tattered at the hems, with a dark grey shirt of equal disrepair and a few buttons missing, and barefoot to boot, he feels constantly underdressed. There is nothing important on his person either, frustratingly, so besides a few curious scars on his back and his abdomen, he has no clues as to his previous lifestyle.
Play-By: Jake Gyllenhaal
Personality Description:
Edward remembers nothing about himself before he died, other than his name, and while he suspects this is why he’s been thrown back onto Syrunn as a ghost, he is very reluctant to find out about his past. He has a gut feeling that it must have been bad for him to forget it. He isn’t even sure he had the same personality as he does now, but he likes to think so. Edward is a joker at heart. Mischievous and playful with a sense of humour that can barely be contained, people find it hard to be down around Edward. He has a quick tongue and a razor wit, not to mention a penchant for telling exaggerated stories. But what he enjoys most is practical jokes.
As a ghost, Edward doesn’t like to scare people as much as… surprise them. He has a knack for popping up in places he shouldn’t, with a charming grin and a joke at hand. Everything about him screams of being carefree, cheeriness oozing from every pore. He celebrates his death-date as a birthday, he’s a notorious womaniser and his temper is almost non-existent. Only when pushed about his previous life will some of his spark go out. Edward just isn’t interested. He’d rather not know.
He does, however, have the occasional bad day due to this persistent blocking out of his past. (Usually on the third of every month, for a reason he cannot fathom). On these days he prefers to take himself out of people’s way, spending his time brooding or drifting about Syrunn to watch the world go by.
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Likes/Dislikes:
Likes: Jokes – especially the practical kind, socialising, surprises, women, clothing and food (they amuse him because he can neither wear new clothes nor eat),
Dislikes: BEING DEAD (ghosts are cool, but not being able to woo women – or do anything else with them – isn’t), being depressed, talking about his past, the rain, the third of every month, fish.
History:
Edward Sharpe was born in a small fishing village by a river in Avalas. His father was a drunkard and his mother a whore, and both, from a relatively young age, would regularly abuse him, emotionally, sexually and physically. Edward’s youth was bleak and dark, full of pain, hatred and hunger. Weak and oftentimes sick, it was a miracle that he survived into adolescence at all. In such a small village it was impossible for people not to have realised what was happening. But nobody lifted a finger to help the dirty, barefoot child often found wandering the riverbanks hunting for scraps of food.
By the time Edward was old enough to know better, warped by his existence, this bitter truth would become a cancer in his thoughts; a festering sore that poisoned everything. Every person living there knew of his torture, but every one of them had turned a blind eye.
So, at the age of 18, wiry and made strong from years of tempering, he took a match to the village, and burned them all.
The soldiers would find him, still laughing in the inferno, feet caked with ashes and a heavy iron bar in his hand. He’d bludgeoned those who’d tried to run, and one of the officers, too, when they’d attempted to restrain him.
Edward spent the rest of his life in a grimy prison in the neighbouring city. Violent and full of rage, he was rarely put with other inmates. His life was a solitary cell. With little to do but exercise and pace the stone square like an animal, it was no surprise that his already rotten mind degraded further.
He died attempting a prison break. Three guards were injured, one killed and another maimed when Edward tried to bite his face. He was stabbed a dozen or more times before he even got to the gates.
And then Edward Sharpe was born again.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: Not being alive is a huge strength when you get yourself into trouble, and Edward has learned this a number of times. He can’t feel physical pain, he can’t be hit and, being dead, he can’t be killed again. His personality is a beacon to those who meet him; he’s attractive and easy to get along with, and he’s pretty optimistic, considering his situation. Being a ghost also lends him certain abilities (see Magic), and these also come in pretty handy in times of crisis… and sometimes just when he’s trying to cause mischief. He’s also an excellent liar, and can sweet talk with the best of them.
Weaknesses: Edward lives in constant fear of being moved onto… wherever it is he has to go next. For this reason he steers clear of all holy places and holy magic, just in case he gets accidentally purified. He also avoids magic users if he can, for fear they’ve got a purification ritual hidden up their sleeves. And when he’s not fearing the afterlife, Edward is afraid of finding out about his real life. He’d much rather meander along without aim and have a good time than face up to whatever killed him. He also dislikes being alone, to the point where he purposely seeks out company, and any potential means of bringing him back to life are treated with almost a religious fervour, making him vulnerable to being used if the promise of rebirth is offered.
Magic:
Edward has a few tricks up his sleeve, the first of which being his power to manifest wherever he chooses on Syrunn. He is not strictly a part of the material plane, and thus doesn’t have to respond to its rules, allowing him to pop up where he likes (many times in awkward places). Being a poltergeist, he also has minor powers of telekinesis. So far he is only powerful enough to maybe shake a table or lift a vase at a push, but the longer he is dead the better he thinks he’ll get at it.
Finally, Edward has something called a draining touch. Anyone who comes into direct contact with him is hit with a brief spell of weakness (this involves touching him on purpose, or accidentally walking through him, as has happened a few times). While this could prove an interesting weapon or distraction, Edward tries to use it as little as possible – it’s an uncomfortable experience for him, too.
Weapons/Armor/Equipment: n/a (He is a ghost, he wields no weapons, has no armor and carries no equipment).
