She let her hand drop back to her side without a word as he moved away from her. She wasn't exactly a tactile person and she rarely sought comfort from contact with an other, though she did understand that under certain circumstances people just needed to know that they weren't alone and a simple touch could remind you of this, even if you did just happen to be a vampire. However, she was rather confused that she was offering comfort to a vampire, and she couldn't help but keep expecting Jagger to turn on her; maybe the idea that all vampires were evil had been drilled far too efficiently into her mind?
"Hmmm? Oh, I think I do." She nodded to him, moving over to tug a cupboard open and rummage around in it for a while before drawing out two water pitchers. "Will these do?" She asked, walking over to hand them to him.

"Yes, that will be enough for cooking, I should think," Kevin responded, receiving the pitchers. "Are you prepared?" He turned to the door and closed his eyes. When he opened them, they were a fierce gold in color, seemingly trapping the light from inside the room so that they almost glowed.
ooc;; SORRY FOR THE SHORT CRAPPY POST. ;_; Couldn't think of anything else for him to do. Oh, and how does an ambush of vampires waiting at the well sound? I'm sure Amaya would like that. And it'd remind Kevin that she's not a defenseless wimp. xD

(Yar, I think that a vampie attack would be just the thing for them, to remind him that she wasn't defenceless and to prove to her that he is on her side. -nods- )
"I'm ready." She nodded, smoothing out her shirt as she opened the door, her hand moving to rest over the hilt of her blade instinctivly as she stepped outside. Her slayer senses were tingling (Coudln't resist!), which meant that something was lurking close by. "We should hurry." She murmured in a low voice, tensing as she looked around at him.

"Not a problem," Kevin responded quietly, shaking the hair out of his face and stepping into the night. The cool air felt nice. If there were vampires out here, they would be quiet and quick and strong; the best of the best sent out only on such a task as finding and terminating the life of the last Ashikawa. Kevin, cocky as he was, was sure that they'd be like none he or Amaya had ever fought before. There'd inevitably be battles ahead and he could only hope that they came out alive, or half-alive in his case. As he walked he began to think strategically. They knew there was a vampire with her now, didn't they? They'd be too quiet to hear, even with his vampiric senses, and they'd probably be wearing magical heat cloaks to render his infrared vision useless. They'd mask their scents, make senses useless so that strength, speed, and experience in combat were all that mattered. Yes, that's what they'd do. It was no use listening or looking or smelling for them. If they were there, Kevin and Amaya wouldn't know it until they only had mere seconds to act.
He followed her a few steps behind, which was tiring for a vampire used to running at intense speeds. Nevertheless, it was smarter that he didn't move that fast. Moving that fast dulled all of his senses except for his sight and it was a lot noisier than this pace. He could take care not to brush against a tree or bush and watch for things on the ground that might make a lot of noise if he stepped on them at this pace.

Amaya was tense as she started walking, footfalls surprisingly light and swift in those heavy boots, picking her way through the undergrowth in an attempt to make as little noise as possible; all this coming as second nature to her by now. She had been slaying long enough to know that the best weapon was surprise, and she didn't intent on giving that up easily. She had been well trained, and she wasn't as easy a target as you would probably think by looking at her. She had the survival skills that she needed, and those would be put to the test against whatever was lurking in the shadows. She expected that the vampires would only send their very best after her; after what had happened at the mansion they wouldn't want any further mistakes. An Angry Ashikawa was not someone that you wanted as an enemy.
They were almost at the stream when Amaya froze in her tracks, standing perfectly still for a moment before looking back over her shoulder and around Jagger, as if trying to spot something. "We are being followed..." She mumbled to him, her voice barely audible. "...I...can't tell how many or how far away they are...but we are being followed..."

Kevin looked back at her and shrugged. He wanted badly to ask her how she knew, especially if his senses hadn't picked up anything, but a quick shrug of the shoulders was all he gave. An odd thing for him to do, really. Normally he should have lowered his head, whipped out his blades, and forgotten the pitchers in his hands completely. But he knew vampires, he'd been one for a long time now. And as soon as they gave away that they knew they were being followed, it was game over.
Keep walking! he shouted mentally. Move! But it was too late. The spells were dropped, he could smell them now. There was rushing in the grass for only a mere second and then... flashes of red everywhere.
Kevin gasped as the strip of pain shot up his back and instinctively swept his leg behind him, trying to trip whoever was there. The other vampire had sprung into the tree to avoid his leg, giving Kevin a chance to rip the dagger from his lower shoulder and fling it into the foliage, where his infrared vision told him the vampire would be. He turned to make sure Amaya was alright, but found himself nearly nose-to-nose with another vampire, and more were coming in from the trees.

She didn't know how she knew, she just did. It was always the same sensation, as it cold fingers were running up along her spine, making her want to shudder. She also knew how they fought, and had been waiting for a little while for the best spot to fight before stopping. The road was wide here, making it less likely that they would get pinned in a corner and gave them more space to fight.
She hadn't, however, realised just how many vampires they were, or how strong they were. She was almost taken off guard by the first one that attacked her, hardly having time to draw her swords from their sheathes before he had rushed past her, leaving three, shallow cuts along her cheek, almost like claw marks. They were enough to draw blood though, ribbons of cherry red dribbling down over her cheek, the scent of her blood working its way through the air. Ahh, she knew what they were doing...they wanted Jagger to turn against her too...they would make her bleed as much as possible so he couldn't ignore the scent of her blood any longer...
She didn't allow herself time to panic, ignoring the growing numbers of vampires as she gracefully took a step back out of the way of the vampire that attacked her, twisting to bring her blade up in a swift and deadly movement to sever the vampire's neck, seeming to wrinkle her nose up a little as his blood spattered over her. Oh, she was such an Ashikawa, wasn't she? Family attributes still showing though at times like these.
She didn't have time to look around for Jagger, raising her blade to meet that of her next asailant. They couldn't fight all of these vampires...they would be overwhealmed easily...and they couldn't run because Amaya wasn't fast enough and they would follow easily because she was bleeding alright. Damn. This was going to be a tight situation to get out of.

The vampire Kevin was facing had whipped his arm back, dagger in hand and blade's tip pointed at his face, but he never got the opportunity to lunge it forth. Kevin had pulled the one that had lodged into his shoulder out and shoved it in the vampire's throat. He sliced it back and forth a few times, the pitchers dropped at his feet, and then he snatched the hair on the vampire's head and ripped it the rest of the way off. He swung it into the face of another vampire powerfully and stepped back, then stopped, sniffed the air. Blood.
"Amaya!" he yelled, ripping free a sword in each hand.
"Get the silver sword and kill that vampire!" a voice ordered in Hagakarinese.
"Silver!" another vampire agreed in Common.
Kevin was instantly surrounded by vampires and engaged in a very fast-paced battle. He didn't know which of his opponents had the silver and the majority of their attacks were at his head. If he hadn't had his infrared vision, he didn't know what he would have done. He had to switch back and forth every few seconds, depending heavily on both to carry out precise and effective actions. His eyes flashed viciously golden while he fought with four vampires, five vampires. He'd slay one and two more entered the fray. All he knew was that he needed to move closer to Amaya, to get his back to hers so that they could face this ambush with a slight hope of coming out alive. However, the vampires did their best to keep him moving backward and too busy to wonder where she was at. If it weren't for the scent of blood, he wouldn't have lost her along with his sense of direction while he was constantly spinning and swinging, dodging and blocking, slicing and ducking.

Amaya was having problems of her own. She had a deep cut in her side by this point which was oozing large ammount of dark blood and there was a dagger sticking out of her thigh, that one probably done tactically to make sure that she couldn't run away. She was overwhealmed by the sheer number of vampires, nevermind how strong they all were. She was breathing heavily by now, constantly moving to dodge and then attack, as if it were some sort of macabre and deadly dance. For every vampire she slew another arrived, and for every wound she gave out she received one in return, which was rather deadly game for a mortal because vampires could take much more than she ever could.
She winced as her back was shoved against the rough bark of a tree trunk, hitting her head so that the world was suddenly spinning around her. The vampire wasn't giving her time to recover as his hands wrapped around her throat, Amaya only catching a jumbled up version of Jagger's cry to her. "Ja..." Ah, she was struggling for breath now, trying to call out for Jagger but failing miserably. The edges of her vision were starting to blur as she reached down and tugged the dagger from her thigh, her hand shaking as she thrust it forward into the vampire's forehead. Dark blood bubbled around the blade, the vampire seeming to spasm before dropping away from her, the slayer taking the chance to catch her breath, glancing over to where Jagger was.

Kevin was slammed against a tree, knocking the air out of him, and he had to roll back onto his feet to avoid being beheaded by a swift sword. He shoved his silver blade into the chest of one vampire and swung at another's neck, but he was much quicker than the ones Kevin had faced back at the mansion; he blocked. He was smelling more blood, mortal blood, Amaya's blood.
"Daisuke," he mumbled, "give me strength." He inhaled deeply, and what followed after that was merely a wild frenzy of a vampire with only one thing he cared to lose. It wasn't his pride as a strong fighter or his life that he feared losing - it was the request of a dying man, a close friend. Whether it was Daisuke that helped him or simply the fact that the smell of Amaya's blood threw him into panic that he might break Daisuke's wish, he didn't know. He felt rage seething in his veins and hate for all of vampiric kind, including himself, being pumped into his heart like an empowering toxin. All the events that followed happened so quickly that the human eye would have a hard time following them, even if it were in broad daylight, but they felt slow to Kevin. Adrenaline was his fuel; he seemed to be able to think and act even faster than before. He could hear nothing but his heart pumping and his heavy breathing, he could see nothing but his blades and his opponents, he could smell nothing but Amaya's blood, and he felt nothing but an agonizing fury.
Silver streaks became the trail of his blades as they whipped through the night air, relentlessly striking out at his opponents. He received a few wounds, but he couldn't feel the pain and so did not notice them. They instantly began healing, all but one received by a silver dagger. It grazed his bare chest, a small amount of steam and the smell of burning flesh rising from the wound, but the hand holding it was severed only a second later, soon followed by the wielder's head. Kevin turned and lunged for another vampire, one that had turned toward Amaya. The vampire avoided one blade, but the other lodged itself below his neck, above his chest. Kevin released it, making sure to give it a good twist first, and turned to block another vampire's attempt at beheading him. His blade met the other's and it seemed that it had done so just in time, for the blades were less than two inches away from Kevin's nose. He shoved against the vampire forcefully, throwing him back so that Kevin could take the time to duck out of the way of a dagger being flung through the air and causing a vampire that had leaped at him to trip and tumble over his back. He beheaded the grounded vampire and picked up his other blade from the ashen corpse of his earlier opponent.
It was a craze, and it was over within a few moments. There were the heads, ashes, and severed limbs of vampires all around. As the adrenaline wore off and Kevin saw Amaya, he realized that his energy was fading... and that his throat itches miserably. He knelt alongside her, breathing heavily, the golden flickering out of his eyes.
"A... Amay... Amaya," he wheezed. "R-run. Get back to the... to the cottage and close the door. I... I can't... I need... I must, I have to feed. I don't... I don't know how much... how much longer I can elude the... thirst." He knew she was wounded and that she might not be able to get away from him at all, and if she did it might not be fast enough. He looked at the only sword he had managed to hold onto. If he cut his leg with it, it would take a long time to heal, and if he cut it bad enough it would give her time to escape. It would be so painful and so physically hindering that even the bloodlust wouldn't be able to overwhelm it for at least a half hour. By then, she'd be safe and he'd find someone else to feed on. He closed his eyes. "You'll know it's me once I've fed. Bloodlusting vampires aren't known for their cunning." He tried to smile at the joke, but he was in such physical stress that he failed badly. He raised the blade to his leg. It itched, even without the blade directly touching his leg. He inhaled deeply, his eyelids still shut, and slit. "Go!" he groaned, though she might have already gone by the time he had yelled this; his eyes were closed, so he did not know.

The flurry of activity and violence that surrounded Jagger sent an icy jolt of fear through Amaya's heart, though she would never admit to having felt such an emotion. Had it worked? Had they weakened him enough so that the heavy scent of her blood drove him mad and broke down any resistance he had to the thirst? It seemed to be that way, she had only seem vampires fighting like that when they were driven by an intense need for blood, and if that were the case then Amaya was obviously the meal that he had in mind. She trusted Jagger, she had forced herself to after everything he had done and sacrificed for her, but she also understood how strong the thrist was and how vampires could forget who they were while under it's influence, only realising what they had done once their thrist had been quenched.
Amaya refused to become a snack.
This new threat gave her the extra boost of adrenaline that she needed to ignore her pain and growing fatigue and push herself back upright. She was an Ashikawa, and if she was going to die she would go out fighting to the very last second. She blade shot out to easily slide through the throat of the vampire that was about to attack her, the silver in the blades making the creatures very blood bubble and smoke. With a flick of her wrist her other blade blocked another attack. Their numbers seemed to be dwindling now, and she could almost make out a path out of the crowd of vampires.
Getting free of them would be the easy part though, running would be the hard part. The wound at the top of her leg was throbbing painfully and bleeding at an alarming rate, leaving her unbalance when stood still. If she tried walking she would either be limping badly or, as was more likely, she would get so far and her leg would just collapse under her from lack of blood. That would make her an easy target for the vampires, they would just be able to pick her off at their pleasure, but she had no other choice but to run back to the cottage because of the injuries she had sustained.
She tensed as Jagger appeared close to her, moving her swords to take a defensive stance before relaxing a little as he spoke. He was still him enough to recognise her, for now at least. She nodded to him to show that she had heard and understood what he was saying. "Alright...be careful." She told him in as few words as possible, keeping her breath for running. She would simply have to ignore the pain until her leg gave up on her, and by that time she should be close enough to the cottage for her to make sure that she got inside and shut everything else out. She smirked at his tip on how to tell his he was still thristing or not, rolling her eyes. "Trust me, I'll know." She murmured, scowling a little as she watched him cut himself before turning to do as she had been told.
The first few steps were agony, Amaya cutting down any vampire that got in her way, settling for maiming them rather than stopping for the kill. Once the adrenaline got pumping around her body her pain was numbed slightly, making the labour of running more bearable, though she was limping visably and leaving a trail of blood spatters after her that would lead right up to her door way. It seemed that he sancturary would no longer be secret.

Kevin was losing vision. The primitive side of him could sense the blood getting away and was growing infuriated at the fact that he was in no position to chase after the meal. Amaya stopped being a promise he had made and turned into his idea of a good drink. Whatever small bit of a heart he had was darkened with a need for blood, more than anything. His brain ceased worrying whether Amaya had gotten away or not, he couldn't hear or see or feel anything except the burning flesh on his leg. He could smell blood, the scent growing fainter as Amaya made her escape. He stopped thinking about anything and his thirst was all that mattered. When he opened his eyes moments later, they were golden again, seeking out something warm, something with blood circulating through it to satisfy him. The pain in his leg was leaving him, not to return until he had quenched his bloodlust.

The rest of the vampires seemed to be hanging back now, following Amaya but leaving the path clear for Kevin to give chase to the slayer, some positioned closer to the cottage to prevent her from getting back before Jagger got to her. It seemed that killing the slayer had never been their plan, they would leave the traitor to turn her, then they would kill them both.
Amaya was stumbling now, her short burst of energy fading. Her breathing was ragged and fast, limping badly now because of her leg, forced to slow to a jog. She gritted her teeth against the pain, her knuckles white from her clinging onto her swords so tightly, her loss of blood starting to make her feel light headed, especially when she glanced over her shoulder quickly. This wasn't good, she had to get away yet she felt herself growing slower by the second no matter how hard she was trying to keep up her pace. The cottage was only around the next bush, she was almost there...almost...

Chants and taunts were filling the air around Kevin, no, not Kevin, the beast he had transformed into, and his pain was being overcame by his thirst. He was soon fit enough to stand, or so his thirsty mind decided. He stumbled to his feet, his teeth bared, his eyes filled with heartless hunger.
"Get her, traitor. Get her!" "Drink her blood, suck it all out of the little wench." "Compensate for your betrayal, feast on the last Ashikawa!"
Ashikawa was not familiar to him anymore and the chants and taunts fell on deaf ears, but he was preparing to do their bidding regardless. He was staggering toward her, following the scent of blood, and then he was running; the adrenaline consuming all his pain, despite the warm blood trickling down his leg and the seering of his flesh.
"Stand clear and let him feast on her."
"But he won't reach her in time!"
"Stand clear!"
Kevin was gaining speed, he could see Amaya, her motions becoming slower. He could hear her frantic breathing and the scent of her blood was thick in the air now.
He had hoped it would last longer, that the pain would hold him back until it had at least had time to stop bleeding and burning, but it hadn't. His burst of furious energy that had allowed him to kill everything in his path for those few moments had a price.

Amaya was swiftly running out of options. Her strength was flowing out of her almost as quickly as her blood was, and that coupled with her dizziness would making fighting him a suicidal option; plus she had grown to like Jagger and she just...didn't want him dead. It was pathetic but true; this was the reason that vampires and slayers were not meant to socialise.
The cottage was in sight now, but she just didn't seem to be getting any closer to it, in fact, the distance between herself and safety seemed to be growing with every step that she took. Time seemed to have slowed down so that each painful and really rather ungreaceful stumbling step took an eternity, her own breathing echoing in her ears to block out the chanting of the pack of vampires.
Never give up. It was her fathers voice that arose from somewhere deep in her mind and suddenly she was set with determination.
She simply refused to die.
Amaya didn't check over her shoulder to see where he was because that would just slow her down. Her attention was fixed on the door that couldn't be more than ten steps away from her, gritting her teeth as she ignored her pain.
Nine.
Eight.
Seven.
She had put one of her swords back in it's sheath, reaching out for the door.
Six.
Five.
Almost there...
