Maka Albarn defeated the Kishin Asura this past summer. Everything at the DWMA is now back to normal, or as normal as it can be at the Death Weapon-Meister Academy. Meisters and weapons are working together to create death scythes and bring peace to the world. The occasional Kishin pops up to try and wreck havoc on the academy students and the remaining members of Arachnophobia are trying to avenge their fallen mistress, creating the occasional road bump for the academy students. They pull through eventually and just try to live their lives as normally as they feel they can.
