Vampire

Occupation/Class:
Amaya Ashikawa's bodyguard
Orientation:
Heterosexual
Physical Description:
Jagger has a sinewy body, standing a 6'-tall with a lean but defined build. His hair is curly and dark, dark enough that it appears nearly black in shadow, though it gains a subtle red hue in the light. He has vivid green eyes set into a pale face. His smile is fanged and infrequent. He is rarely found clean-shaven due to his nomadic activities as of late. He is agile and quick when he wants to be and seems to move with the stealthy gait of a predator by instinct. He is always dressed in dark attire, usually a hooded cloak, leather jerkin, long-sleeved undershirt, belt, and loose trousers tucked into worn brown boots. When he uses his infrared vision, his eyes glow golden.
Personality Description:
Tormented by his past and being, Jagger's only drive comes from protecting the one he loves and seeking redemption for the horrors he has committed. He hates what he is and would give almost anything to change it. His affection for Amaya has extended to the human race, reviving his humanity and thus his guilt. The only solace he finds is in Amaya's presence.
This inner turmoil is, of course, kept hidden for the most part. Outwardly, he is confident, persistent, and cold. He prefers actions to words and so is not much of a conversationalist. His sense of humor is defined by his dry sarcasm and jokes at Yasakazu's expense.
Still, Jagger's loyalty to Amaya is unquestionable and he has even grown a fondness for Yaskazu, though he'll never admit it. His cleverness, adaptivity, and determination make him a fierce opponent. He can be stubborn and his blatant honesty isn't always appreciated, but the fact is that his heart is bleeding though it is no longer beating.

History:
Kevin Bradley Pierce was the name given to him by his mother, Lauren. His father, Andrew, was a fisherman at the time and spent most of his waking hours trying to earn a living on the Segalend Sea. When Kevin was 5, Lauren died giving birth to his little sister, Irene.
Irene was in poor health for the first few years after her birth and their father neglected his boat to take care of her and Kevin. However, as she grew older and took the likeness of her mother, Andrew began to blame her for Lauren's death. He physically and emotionally abused her, though Kevin often intervened to take the blows in her stead. Andrew took to drinking and gambling his days away.
Kevin spent a lot of his time in the streets. He climbed up the ranks in a gang of boys and girls his age rather rapidly with his wit, charm, and innate talent for fighting. Stealing, pranking, and harassing with them became his only outlet for the stresses of his home-life. He ruled the gang by equal parts fear and respect.
Kevin was 11 when he tried to steal from Kenichi Oshiro, a retired professor who had once worked at the university in Idaitokai. He promised not to turn Kevin in to the authorities if he would agree to take lessons. Kevin showed up the next day with Irene more out of curiosity than fear.
Mr. Oshiro was a stern but kind-hearted mentor. His praise was scarce but genuine and Kevin was eager to earn it. Kevin and Irene began spending most of their time with the man. He taught Kevin to read, write, do arithmetic, and even speak a little Hagakarinese.
When Kevin was 14, Mr. Oshiro announced that he would be returning to his home in Idaitokai. Kevin begged him to take him and his sister along. Not wishing to be labeled as a kidnapper, Mr. Oshiro spoke to their father about it first. Andrew swung on the professor and Kevin snapped his wrist. His father had no trouble signing a slip of parchment voiding his parental rights then. Kevin and Irene turned their backs on their father and never saw him again.
Everything changed in Idaitokai. Mr. Oshiro owned a fine house near the university. He not only continued to educate Kevin, but he also instilled discipline in him. Fighting was forbidden, he was given chores, and he took etiquette classes. Studies became more difficult, but every day there were three good meals, a warm bath, and clean clothes to wear.
Finally, Kevin turned 18. Mr. Oshiro sent him off to the university with a letter of recommendation and a smile. Despite his anxiety, Kevin completed their tests adequately and was admitted. That night they had a celebration supper with gifts and music.
It was then that Kevin met Daisuke Ashikawa. He was witty and confident, the heir to the revered Ashikawa family's slaying legacy, and thus popular among the students. They met as sparring partners in swordsmanship lessons and a friendship sprouted almost instantly. It wasn't long before they were inseparable. After a couple years as close confidants, Daisuke asked Kevin to join him and his family in vampire slaying once they graduated. Kevin could hardly refuse such an honor.
However, just months away from graduating, Kevin's life plunged into chaos. Daisuke was holding a celebratory get-together at a tavern after proposing to a woman he loved dearly. He left early to see his betrothed home while Kevin stayed to chat with friends. When he prepared to leave, he noticed Daisuke's cloak bearing the Ashikawa crest had been left behind. He wrapped it around his shoulders and left.
He was halfway home when three vampires attacked, mistaking him for Daisuke due to the cloak. Kevin killed two of them, but the third got behind him and sank his teeth into Kevin's neck. There was pain and soundless screaming, then oblivion.
When he came to, he panicked. He returned home and locked himself up in his room for a while, unsure of what to do. Daisuke and Kevin had made a pact that was common among slayers -- if one of them should turn, the other should behead him. Desperate, Kevin began reading everything he could find on vampires in search of a cure for his condition. When Daisuke called, Kevin feigned ill so that he would leave. This went on for two days.
The change finalized when he was on his way home from the library one night. His throat began to burn and his body felt empty and heavy. He struggled toward home, delusional and crazed by bloodthirst, hoping against hope that Mr. Oshiro would know what to do.
The next thing he remembers is standing in the sitting room. Mr. Oshiro was lying on the floor, his blood pooling on the rug beneath him. His glasses were cracked and his gray eyes were lifeless behind them. Anguish enveloped Kevin. He fell to his knees and cried over his beloved professor's corpse, screaming, for hours. It wasn't until he heard Irene return home that he left forever. He crawled through a window and began his unlife.
Kevin considered suicide numerous times, but he couldn't ever do it. At first, he tried to ignore his urges in hopes that, with enough neglect, they would simply go away. All of these agonizing attempts ended in massacres he couldn't even remember doing. Kevin convinced himself he'd find a cure one day. If he could cure all the vampires in the world, then that would surely make up for all the people he had killed.
Time has a way of changing people, though. Waking up every morning weighed down by self-loathing and sorrow was too painful. Kevin adapted by banishing what he could of sympathy, hope, and sadness. He even began to associate with other vampires, going by the name Jagger.
Jagger became an apprentice under a blacksmith when he was 25. The man didn't mind that Jagger only worked at night -- he actually loved it. The smithy could run all hours that way and more work would get done. Kevin picked up on everything quickly, needless to say, and it was no surprise that the man left the smithy to Kevin when he passed away a few years later. He didn't have any family or friends, so Jagger cremated the man and let the wind carry away his ashes. He didn't grieve. He had grown detached from emotion -- it was the only way he could bear existing.
Jagger worked the smithy for a full decade before his life took another abrupt turn. He overheard at an underground vampires' tavern that there was an assault planned on the Ashikawas. Jagger found out then that he wasn't nearly as heartless a he had thought himself to be. The mortal compassion he had banished years ago as weakness was reborn. He left Idaitokai that night, headed for the Ashikawa Manor in hopes that he could save his old friend Daisuke and his family.
He was too late to save Daisuke or his wife, but he and their daughter did manage to fight their way out. Yasakazu, a slayer-mage, joined them shortly after their escape. They have been traveling together since, leaving blood and ashes in their wake. In the beginning, Jagger sought only redemption, but...
After enduring so much hardship together, it was impossible for Jagger and Amaya to remain estranged. What he didn't expect was to fall in love with her. His newfound affection restored his humanity. It has been much more painful for him since, but he has no intention of changing it. He feels mortal again... almost.
Strengths:
Physical: Jagger has vampiric strength, speed, and senses. He can deadlift roughly 650kg and run at 70kmph. His reflexes are much sharper than a human's. He also has a superior sense of smell, hearing, and sight. He has the ability to use infrared vision. He is immune to most poisons and can only be killed by being beheaded or silver piercing his heart. His wounds regenerate quickly unless made by a silver weapon. He is also a skilled swordsman, especially when pinned up against other vampires, as his sparring partner for years was a slayer and taught him to fight like one. It also helps that he knows how they think.
Mental: He is clever and adaptive with a decent ability to recognize and exploit weaknesses in his opponents.
Emotional: His determination and loyalty are unwavering.
Weaknesses:
Physical: Jagger, like most vampires, is highly "allergic" to sunlight and thus can only go out during the night, lest he be reduced to a pile of ash. He is weak against silver as well -- the mere touch of it burns his flesh -- and this makes his choice of silver weapons self-endangering. Finally, he needs blood to sustain himself. The more he uses his superhuman powers, the more blood he needs to sustain the energy used. The same goes for wounds -- the worse the wound, the more blood he will need for it to mend. If he ignores his thirst for too long, he becomes something primal and emotionless with nothing but quenching his thirst as a priority.
Mental: He can sometimes be stubborn and over-confident.
Emotional: Jagger is in constant emotional torment despite all appearances. His biggest weakness of all is Amaya, though. If someone wants to get under his skin or rule out his cleverness by making angry the the point of being primal, it is through her.
Weapons/Armor/Equipment:
Jagger carries a katana on each hip and a knife in his boot, all made of silver.
Other:
((May tweak his strength/speed once Kamui comes online.))
RP Sample:
Jagger looked concernedly at Amaya's expression. It broke his heart to see her like that. He found himself biting his lip, trying to hold back everything he wanted to say. This was a delicate situation. She was weak, he was weak. He should watch what he said... but he couldn't. He turned, putting his hands on her shoulders and staring into her amber eyes with his emerald ones.
"Amaya, no," he whispered, looking at her soberly. "I had nothing. I didn't have a life, only a cursed half-life. I had nothing to lose when I left that night. I lost nothing." His serious expression faded and something different replaced it. Passion. "What I didn't know when I left that night is that I would gain something, but I did. Amaya, you... are precious to me. Even if I'll never have you, I would be nowhere if not where you are. I will follow you to the ends of the world, to the end of my life. Even if you feel nothing for me." He looked at the floor and said more to himself than her: "How could you?" Then he looked back up at her, caught in her gaze for a moment before he mustered the strength to continue. "When I meet my end, I will do so effortlessly, because nothing, even death, is more difficult than living and not breathing, loving and not being loved. I will make you happy, one day, even if it means the end of me."
Jagger leaned closer to her, watching her expression carefully, looking for something. He needed to know if she wanted him just as badly as he wanted her and this was the test. He leaned in closer and closer, all the while watching for some tell-tale expression. Disgust, hatred, anger...
