Name: Pari Kashani
Aliases: Fairy (the meaning of her name in Common) and Fae.
Age: 24
Race: Human
Gender: Female
Occupation/Class: Nâkhodâ of the Kashani Sand Snakes.
Orientation: Heterosexual
Physical Description: Pari wouldn’t say that there was anything extra special about her. She stands a moderate 5’6 with the deep tan skin which was native to the Xyndi Empire. Thick, glossy curls of ebony hair tumbled right to the middle of her back when left loose, though she preferred to keep it tied back and out of her face. Spending hours fixing her hair didn’t really appeal to her, so she only went to the trouble to make it look decent for special occasions and even that was only because her father insisted. To Pari there were much more important things in the world than hair.
There was one thing that stood out about Pari though; her eyes. Her grandmother was from Marmosia and had eyes of the brightest blue. Her father had inherited this trait, though his eyes had been a duller, darker blue, but Pari’s eyes were the same clear blue colour as her grandmother. Against her skin tone the colour seemed even brighter. Almond shaped and framed by thick eyelashes her eyes betrayed her emotions; Pari had never perfected the mask the other upper class women wore.
The scar is one of the first things that people will notice though. It looked rather beautiful until you realised what it was; a series of fine white lines which flowed and branched out in a delicate pattern, running from her left temple down her cheek and neck and across her chest. When you realised, however, that the pattern was the result of electricity burning through her veins the magic of beautiful pattern was sort of lost.

Personality Description: Pari was anything but your average noble woman. Then again, the Kashani family weren’t your average bunch of nobles. In fact, they were barely clinging onto their status. Womanly pursuits like sewing and gossiping just seemed incredibly dull to her. Pari liked adventure. She wasn’t afraid of a challenge or getting her hands dirty and you could guarantee that if you gave her something to do she would throw herself into the task whole heartedly. She was an all or nothing type of girl. Women weren’t around just to get married and have babies, they could fight just as well as a man and she was going to prove it.
Morality is a grey area for Pari; she tries her best to do what is right, even if that means departing from more conventional methods. However, she is no idealist; she knows that sometimes good people have to do slightly shady things. She was also of the firm belief that everyone deserved to be given a chance. Everyone was equal, whether they be former slave or Emperor of the Empire. That wasn’t a view that you could readily voice in polite society though.
Pari wasn’t exactly sociable either. She can give orders to a group of people, but as soon as you asked her to mingle with them she became awkward, clumsy and shy. It was okay when there were just a couple of people, but groups were intimidating. On the other hand, she hated being on her own, but that was because Kai was always there for her. Really, Pari was one of the guys and was generally treated as such, but as soon as someone complimented her she got tongue tied and embarrassed.

History: The Kashani family were famous throughout the Xyndi Empire for their work. They started out as a group of desert trawlers hiring out their services to those wanting to traverse the Umayyad Mountain passes to the Great Giagantii Desert unmolested. They knew the passes like the back of their hands, and they knew how to survive in the desert, skills which proved to be highly valuable. Over the years the family band of rangers grew into a real guild, recruiting and training outsiders so they could secure one of the main passes.
This was, of course, all done at a price. Originally they charged a toll to use their trails through the mountains, and there were suspicions that they may have links with the desert raiders because it came to the point where travellers couldn’t step foot into the mountains without being attacked. These allegations were never proven, of course, but it the Empire stepped in to ease the situation. They came to the agreement that the Kashani Sand Snakes would receive funding from the Empire and in return they would train any men sent to them and keep the main mountain pass safe without any charge to travellers. The deal was struck, the money was paid and no-one ever looked back.
Things ran smoothly. The Sand Snakes established two posts, one at the Empire side of the mountains, the other on the desert side. The latter was the main base and training camp as it posed the most danger and was the more remote of the two. The mountain post was used to grow food, special greenhouses developed to keep them well supplied. The number of Sand Snakes doubled in only a couple of years and, in short, they flourished.
Command of the guild passed down through the family without issue until Pari’s father, Dabir, gained control. He married the daughter of a Marmosian cloth merchant and with her had three children. Leila was the eldest and the most like their mother; she was perfect. She was elegant, intelligent, well-spoken and beautiful; Pari spent her whole life in her sisters’ shadow. She disliked Leila immensely, mainly for embodying everything that she would never be. Maybe Leila was also one of the reasons that Pari was so determined to prove that she could learn to fight just like the boys; she wanted to be able to do something that her sister couldn’t.
Daryush, on the other hand, was Pari’s role model. Her big brother was everything a Sand Snake was meant to be, and he was a born leader. Everything he did was geared towards preparing him to take over the leadership of the guild. With everything else he was doing, he didn’t have enough time for his baby sister, and the age gap didn’t help. He didn’t want a kid trailing around after him when he was trying to command ranging parties.
That didn’t really matter, Pari never wanted for a companion. A couple of weeks before she gave birth to Pari something happened. She was attacked by something dark and it left its mark on her. She died giving birth to Pari and her father made sure that nothing would get close to his daughter to hurt her. He purchased Kai from the arena, employing him as a guard dog for his daughter. What better creature for the job than a half demon? It didn’t take long for him to prove his worth and rise in importance in the guild until he became the Guardian.
Pari’s childhood had been a happy one really. Having Kai meant that she was never alone growing up and she dragged him into all of her games. Over the years he’d been forced to play tea parties (in her brief girly stage), hide and seek and countless games of tag as well as being coaxed into teaching her how to fight as she grew older. At first her father disapproved of the fighting, but he came around when he realised her talent. It was hard to say no to her when she had Kai backing her up.
The ‘incident’ occurred when she was out ranging in the mountains with Kai, attempting to track a shadowy creature travellers kept reporting. The storm came out of nowhere and they were trapped high up in the mountains. The worst part was that there was no rain, only gale force winds, rumbling thunder and cracks of vicious lightning; you could feel the crackle of the storm in the air. She was caught as they attempted to return to a safe cave for the night. Honestly, she didn’t remember much. The world flashed bright white and the pain was blinding, searing through her body. Then there was nothing. A whole lot of nothing.
They thought that she wouldn’t make it. Pari was in a coma for at least a month and then one day she just…woke up. It was like she had never been ill. She woke up, got up and got dressed before Kai turned up and told her what had happened. Admittedly her memory was pretty fuzzy and she gave everything a static shock when she touched it, but everything seemed to be normal…for about half an hour before Raijin made his presence known. Typically for the demon, his entrance was spectacular. Thankfully only Pari and Kai were there when it happened.
After an electricity show and Pari’s long conversation with…well…herself, they realised that something was wrong. Raijin wasn’t inclined to tell them what he was (he kept telling Pari that she had gone insane), so it took a while to find answers, and in that time she became withdrawn. She couldn’t trust herself around people, not with him running riot in her mind.
Things grew easier. Kai explained away her new found powers by telling everyone that she had been kissed by lightning, and the explanation seemed to work. Pari found a way to work with, or rather around, Raijin and life started to go back to normal.
Then Pari’s father died and everything was thrown back up into the air. Under the guild’s rules all of Dabir’s children had the right to challenge one another for control of the guild to make sure that the most apt leader was chosen. Leila, of course, graciously stood down from the competition, but supported by Kai, Pari stepped up. The rules were simple, they fought and whoever won took control. In the past they used to fight to the death, but the rules had evolved until they fought with blades dulled by magic and only until one party was pinned on the floor.
To everyone’s surprise, Dariyush lost, and Pari became the first female leader of the guild. So far she was also proving to be a very apt leader as well, but that was because she always had Kai there to help her out.
Likes: Kunai, rain, helping people, grapes, stories, her scimitar, Kai, heroes, ballads…
Dislikes: Tradition, dresses, Leila, storms, books, staying indoors, being alone, injustice, people who exploit others, generally bad people…
Strengths/Weaknesses: Her main strength is her aim. Even Pari herself realised that she had good aim, and others would say that it was fantastic. Both with a bow and arrow and her throwing daggers she could hit almost any target, including moving ones, though that wasn’t much help in close combat. Physically she doesn’t have the size or the muscle mass to be strong, but Kai had taught her that strength wasn’t everything. Speed and skill were more important and those were the focus of her fighting technique.
While not academically brilliant, Pari is intelligent and quick thinking, able to notice patterns and exploit weaknesses. Sit her down with a book, however, and her attention would wane pretty quickly, unless she was reading the tales of legendary heroes. Mathematics and grammar and geography and politics were dull, though she begrudgingly suffered through them. At least she tended to pick new things up quickly and retain information.
Raijin is both a massive advantage and disadvantage simultaneously. It was like having a wealth of knowledge at your fingertips when you needed it, but you could never be too sure that he was telling you the whole truth. Having him there also tempted you into laziness. She didn’t want to start relying on him, when that happened Raijin would have the upper hand and start asking more of her.
Kai could be counted as one of her weaknesses too. She’s relied on the demon being there ever since she remembers, sometimes a silent shadow just watching over her, but most of the time as a constant companion. She’s pretty lost when he isn’t there, and her confidence takes a hit. Kai is her partner, they’re a team, and when he’s not there everything is twice as hard.
Weapons/Armor/Magic: Pari Kashani was kissed by lightning, though what that actually meant was lost on most people. They knew about the magic part of it. She has electricity in her fingertips, running through her veins. She is able to create it at will, though one can only have a certain degree of control over such a mischievous and destructive force. At first things had been more difficult,; she’d constantly given people static shocks when they came close and there was that once incident where a spark had caught light to her curtains and she had almost burnt the whole manor down. That wasn’t one of her proudest moments.
Since the incident Pari hasn’t aged a day either; though only a relatively short time has passed it hasn’t left any mark on her. The lightning demon in her head didn’t want its host getting old and useless. His name is Raijin and he is an impish sprite. Less malevolent and more mischievous, Raijin enjoys playing tricks on people and whispering in Pari’s mind in the attempt to lead her astray. He also proved to be an invaluable asset. He was older, older than he would ever admit, and his knowledge was vast. He was even willing to share tit bits with Pari at times, which had both saved her life and put her in more danger. You had to take what the demon said with a pinch of salt; he couldn’t be trusted to tell the whole truth. Still, he wanted Pari alive, and he also wanted her powerful. Power corrupts and he was counting on that,
With regards to weapons, her favourites were her kunai. They were elaborately engraved and of the best quality. With these she could hit almost any target, as long as she didn’t make herself believe otherwise. Like almost every other warrior in the Empire, Pari also carried a scimitar. Hers was crafted from special, lightweight metal so she could wield it properly, the blade carved with runes to strengthen it and prevent the edge from going dull (it had been a present from a grateful mage after a mission). Kai had spent hours and hours with her teaching her how to use the weapon.
