Kai seemed rather confused as she just... landed at his feet, tilting his head down at her curiously. "Um...?" he smirked, not quite sure what to say. Perhaps Pari hadn't been lying when she said she often fell down. The driver also seemed pretty amused at the odd 'clunk' he heard from inside the carriage befrore the door opened, and he stood aside to let Pari out. Kai soon followed, stretching from being cramped up in the space and hiding a yawn behind his hand before turning to watch them. Considering he'd already been paid, the driver merely gave them a salute, called a goodbye in Xyndi and mounted the little stage again and took up the reins for his horse. In just a few minutes he had trundled past them and down the road, Kai watching curiously as he left. He was probably going to get some breakfast himself now.
"Hmm...?" he looked back at her distractedly as she spoke to him, tugging off the cloak and shaking his hair out of his face so he wouldn't get too hot. And Pari had said it would be safe now, anyway. "Oasis...? Never seen one of those before." he shook his head, but smiled as if to say it was a good idea, "Sure, why not." he murmured, "Is there water there...? 'Cause I can smell water coming from that way." he pointed towards the edges of the town to their left, through a small row of stalls selling foods and other commodities. It didn't look too busy there, quiet enough for Kai to survive without going deaf at least. And if Pari was hungry they could find some breakfast there too, undoubtedly.
His ears pricked up a little at the sound of something to drink more than food; considering how they'd woken up that morning and the adrenaline that had been flooding through his system since then, he was feeling pretty thirsty right now. The growing heat didn't help, but at least he knew he wouldn't be fighting today. "Sure, let's go." he nodded to her and smiled faintly, beginning to walk in the direction of the water he could smell without really realising what he was doing.

Unfortunatly Pari hadn't been lying when she had told Kai how clumsy she could be. Her balance wasn't quiet as bad when someone else was relying on her, but when they weren't in the middle of some sort of dire circumstances she often tripped up over her own feet, lost her footing...or just plain fell over. Her lack of balance made training with her sword really rather difficult. She had hit herself more times than enough, or just gone tumbling into her oppoment. Silly, heavy thing. At least when they were training a simple spell was put around the blade to blunt it.
"Yes, there is water at an oasis." She nodded to him, moving to follow after him as he started walking, seeming impressed by his sense of smell. "They are springs of water, and they're surrounded by the most amazing plants. And birds. There are usually pretty birds at an oasis." She explained to him, sounding rather excitable. She would bet that he would like the oasis. He had liked the garden yesterday, right? Hmm, well she hoped that he would like it anyway, she wanted to show him that there was more to the Xyndi Empire than sand, sand and...oh...more sand.
Pari paused at the stalls to buy them a breakfast of fruits and flat breads, as well as buying them a flask each of flavoured water. That was all packed away in her bag for them to eat when they got to to oasis. It didn't really take them very long to get there, maybe a twenty minute walk at the most. It was worth the walk though, every bit as beautiful as Pari had said. At frist it just looked like a lump of green dropped in the middle of the sand, edged by tall palm tree's. Once you got closer you would see that the long grass was dotted with tiny, colourful wild flowers and bright purple orchids. In the middle of all of this was a pool of sparkling water which was filled with laughing and giggling children. In fact, the oasis seemed to be their play ground, children running around in the shade of the palm tree's, playing hide and seek and other games.
"Well, what do you think?" Pari smiled to Kai as they stepped into the shade of the trees.

He had tilted his head at her when she'd bought all of the fruits and everything, as if wondering how she was ever going to finish it all before it suddenly dawned on him that some of it must have been for him. Oh, well... that explained it at least. Even Kai, with his keen eyes had only been able to distinguish the oasis as a big clump of green and tall trees that smelled like water on the outskirts of the sandy desert, the half-breed tilting his head at it, especially when the peals of laughter from the children reached his sensitive ears, making them twitch and turn in that direction. But that was nothing compared to the smell of it. The orchids in themselves had a rich, sweet scent, and the wildflowers just added a vibrant undertone to the smell which Kai found... pleasant wasn't quite a strong enough word for it. Enchanting was a little closer... needless to say, he was enthralled by the place before he even got there.
Which explained his silence on their way to the oasis, but by the time they set foot on the greenery and he got to see the reflection of the bright colours in the clear, pure water he was well and truly hooked, his eyes drifting up to the tall palm trees above them and the shade they provided, before he looked back at the water, the flowers and the playing children. "It's... I don't know what it is." he smiled softly, his tail wagging as he wandered amongst the orchids and the other flowers, trying not to breathe too much through his nose in case the scent overpowered him. For a fighter who wasn't afraid to play dirty or bite and claw and draw blood he had an appreciation for the little things, didn't he?
The children seemed to have noticed them coming, a few of the more shy ones running to hide amongst the tall plants and behind palm trees, all of them seeming curious about the two strangers; the pale man with the wolf ears and his blue eyed companion. Kai for the most part hadn't noticed them, not until a small girl approached him tentatively, and tugged on his sleeve. He looked down at her curiously, seeming to have a lot of patience for children considering he had spent little to no time with them. They were... innocent, as far as he could see. He didn't have a problem with innocents.
"'Scuse me, mister..." the little girl started in a small voice, guarded by curiosity. "Um... could I maybe... touch your ears? I mean, if you don't mind... I've just never seen anyone like you before..." she smiled nervously, and the look on Kai's face was absolutely priceless as he looked down at her. He was used to ridicule and being singled out because he was half-demon, but it was only in the last day or so that people seemed curious about what he was... particularly his ears, actually. Nonetheless, he smirked and obliged, dropping onto one knee so the child could reach over to stroke his snowy white ears, their ebony tips seeming much darker now that he had leant down for her. This was certainly turning into an interesting day, wasn't it?

Pari smiled as she watched Kai's reaction. She wasn't able to guess exactly what he was thinking, but it was pretty clear that he liked the oasis. Who wouldn't like it? It was idillic. From the way his nose was twitching she guessed that the flowers smelt rather nice aswell. Ha! She knew that she could prove to him that the Xyndi Empire could be rather nice, you just had to know where to look was all. Plus, it would be nice and cool for them to sit by the water and eat their breakfast while deciding what to do for the day. They could even just stick around and lounge around in the long grass until the hottest part of the day passed.
She couldn't help but laugh lightly as the little girl came up and asked to stroke his ears, the other children all watching Kai now, as though to wait and see what he did. Pari had to admit, if she had been confident enough she would have asked to stroke Kai's ears too. Bah, silly kid, getting there first! She would have to ask him later, when all of the kids had done stroking his ears and asking him questions. For someone that had been trapped in the arena he seemed good with the children, not annoyed at the little girls request or anything. She just hoped that his patience would last long enough to answer all of their questions and for them to get bored with him.
"It looks like you have a fan club Kai." She smiled to him as she moved to sit by the edge of the pool, the other children inching closer to him, a few confident ones also hopping over to reach out for his ears as he bent down. "How come you've got ears Mister? And a tail...I don't have those." A little boy questioned, looking behind himself just to check that he hadn't got a tail. "Did you steal them and sew them on?"

"A fan club? Never had one of those before." Kai smirked at Pari, "...Not one that didn't chant for my blood, anyway..." he shrugged, before turning his attention back to the children he suddenly found himself surrounded by. Aaaaagh, where did they all come from!? He was momentarily distracted by all of the little hands reaching for his fluffy ears (it would be a horrible lie to say that he didn't like the feeling but he'd never ever admit to that EVER) and he eventually smirked down at the boy who'd spoken to him. "You mean you don't have a tail?" he feigned being surprised, almost worried by this fact, which promptly sent the majority of the other children trying to look over their shoulders for their tails, some of them over balancing and ending up falling into the pool of water, their friends giggling at them and splashing them as they tried to get back out.
"I have them 'cause I come from a place far away, that's all." he winked to the children, more than happy to have them believe that all people who didn't come from the Xyndi Empire had tails and other animalistic features. It made him feel a little more in place, anyway. The little girl who had spoken to him first had straightened up now, smiling to him brightly and thanking him. "You should come and play later. You and your pretty friend." she nodded and waved to Pari, before giggling and scurrying off to play with her friends again. The other children promptly seemed to get distracted again soon after, those that didn't lingering nearby while Kai shuffled to sit next to Pari, one of his ears twitching as a brilliantly coloured butterfly fluttered close to it.
"Aaah!" he freaked out just a little when the thing landed on his ear, keeping comically still and looking up to where the vibrantly coloured insect was. He could hear it (the noise was scarily loud where he was) and he'd never seen one before, which made it worse. Hard to believe that the ruthless fighter from the arena who had broken a giant's nose with one kick would get all worked up over a butterfly, wasn't it?

Pari chuckled as she watched Kai with the children, noting how well he did with them. Ha, so much for the ruthless fighter. Her worries about him turning into a blood thirsty demon seemed so far away as the children stroked his ears. He was cute, wasn't he? How could he not be with fluffy ears and a wagging tail? You just had to ignore the telltale scars that marked him as a fighter and he was cute. Well...he was rather handsome in a sort of exotic and exciting kind of way, but she wasn't going to say that out loud. In fact, nothing that she was thinking was going to get said outloud. She didn't think that Kai would react well to being told about his cuteness.
"You're great with kids, you know." She smiled to him as she set her bag down between them, opening up so that they could help themselves to the breakfast that she had bought for them. "Here." She murmuerd as she handed him a waterskin. "It's flavoured water. Yours is flavoured like apple because you had one of those yesterday and seemed to like it." She nodded to him, taking her own waterskin and taking the stopper out of the top so that she could take a drink. She had berry flavoured water, it was better than regular water, more refreshing. Plus, once they had drank the water they could fill their flasks back up with water from the pool.
She was about to start eating when he gave his small exclamation, giggling as she looked up at him. "It's a butterfly, Kai, it won't hurt you." She told him, shaking her head a little as she knelt next to him. "Okay, keep still and I will get it." She murmured as she reached up with one hand to gently move the butterfly from his ear, letting it climb onto her finger. "See, all better." She whispered so as not to scare the butterfly, sneakily reaching up with her other hand to stroke the fur on his ear, using the excuse that she was flattening the fur down. Ha! She was crafty! "It's pretty...look..." She smiled as she slowly sat back and lowered her hand, the butterfly remaining perched on her finger, slowly fluttering it's brightly coloured wings.

He would have been rather scandalised if he realised she thought he was adorable or cute (maybe not handsome... but he wasn't going to think about that either); he was just a little culture shocked was all, and overwhelmed and excitable and... okay, maybe that did merit his behaviour as 'cute'. But he certainly wasn't aware of it and he wasn't thinking about it, especially as she gave him the waterskin. "Apple flavoured? I rarely get normal flavoured water." he smirked to her, staying ever-so-still as she let the butterfly crawl onto her hand. "A what?" he lifted a brow as he looked at her, smirking a little as he realised what she was doing. "If you wanna be a kid and stroke 'em properly, I ain't gonna stop you, y'know." he told her with a light chuckle, shaking his head and looking curious as she showed him the bright insect.
"Oh..." he murmured as he examined it with interest. It was so colourful, it embodied everything he liked and it wasn't sand coloured or like the arena in any way, shape or form. He could definitely deal with this. "I'll try not to freak out next time, then." he smirked and settled back as the butterfly flew away, Kai watching it flutter to and fro before finally settling on one of the tall orchids. Then he took out the stopper from his water skin and took a drink, seeming amused that the water tasted just like the apples from the day before. Ahh, luxuries, he'd never truly get used to them, would he? "I never knew there were places like this in the Xyndi Empire, let alone so close to where I was." he murmured softly, sitting up a little to replace the stopper and smile faintly over at her. "It makes me glad that you helped me get out."
He was silent for a little while before he glanced at her again, frowning ever so slightly. "I never thanked you properly, did I?" he murmured, shaking his head - he might have been a slave, but he knew what manners were even if he rarely got a chance to use them in the arena. "I'm such a commoner." he chuckled. "Anyway, thanks a lot, Pari. You don't know how grateful I am. I don't even think I know how grateful I am. Not yet, anyway." he shook his head, looking at the pool of water just a few feet away from them and watching the children play, leaning back on his hands to enjoy the bright colours, the greenery and the warmth of the sun for the first time in his life. Breakfast could come later, for now he was just going to take it all in.

Pari blushed faintly as he spoke, giving him an innocent smile. "I was just...flattening your fur down...and maybe sneakily stroking your ears at the same time." She explained with a nod, as though that was perfectly logical. "I will bear that in mind though, for the next time I get the urge to be a kid and stroke your ears." She laughed lightly, her gaze following the butterfly as it fluttered away. Well, now she knew that he wouldn't bite her hand off or anything, not that she had really expected that he would. Kai seemed to be pretty placid really, unless something upset him. She guessed that anyone who crossed him would have to worry. Not that she would have to worry, she never planned on crossing him.
She tilted her head at him a little as he thanked her, shaking her head just a little. "It wasn't a problem, I am just glad that I could help someone. After listening to your Master I couldn't just leave you." She told him, taking one of the flat breads out of her bag, breaking off a chunk before popping it into her mouth. "I'm glad that you like it out here. I thought that it would be nice to bring you somewhere like this...I wanted to show you that it's not all bad here." She admitted to him, letting her gaze drift around the oasis. "I think that I did a pretty good job proving that, even if I do say so myself."
After that Pari fell quiet to let Kai take everything in, taking the time to lean back and eat her breakfast, watching the children splashing around in the pool. She was surprisingly happy, she hadn't expected to feel so content away from her family and away from home, but she didn't really. She missed them, but right now too much had happened for her to brood upon that. Hopefully she would be used to them not being around by the time that she got the time to brood upon being away from home.

"I do think you did a good job..." he smirked to her and nodded. There wasn't a better place she could have taken him to demonstrate that the Xyndi Empire wasn't all bad than an oasis. It proved that it wasn't just all sand and beige and heat and the like. It did have some good points, and after a few minutes of getting used to the scents of all of the different flowers and the sound of the splashing water, he sat up to eat his breakfast with her. Kai would have to watch out - sleeping regularly, eating properly, Pari would have him healthy if he didn't watch his step! He smiled inwardly at this thought. He didn't even know what feeling healthy was like, and considering that he could maul the crap out of your average guard without too many problems now, things could only get better right?
Kai spent the morning enjoying the shade and the variety which the oasis offered, lazing beneath the palm trees or talking with Pari, or even allowing the group of children to use him as a play thing every now and then. The little girl who'd first asked to touch his ears had shown him some of the prettier flowers and explained to them their names and why they smelled so good; this had briefly ended in a small incident where the half-demon had had to sit down for a few minutes to recover. As he'd learned, one of the more vibrant orchids had a particularly potent scent that had completely confused his nose and he spent the time afterwards rather dazed, waiting for his head to clear while the little girl apologised frantically and tried to find a few of the other flowers to help.It didn't really help with his problem, but he had to admit that it was sweet.
It was just heading to midday now and the children were disappearing for their midday meals, called by their parents which sent them rushing out from the oasis in all directions, racing one another and laughing. Kai, in comparison was leant back against the trunk of a leafy palm tree in the shade, looking incredibly relaxed. He could get used to this, he really could. And he had to admit, he already liked Sinna a lot more than he'd liked Dibos. He hadn't had to RUN anywhere in Sinna, for a start.

To say that they were on the run Pari and Kai had a rather lazy and tranquil morning, didn't they? After breakfast Pari had taken to showing the children how to make chains from the multicoloured, daisy-like wild flowers, showing them how to pierce their stalks with their nails so that they could fit them together in a chain. Needless to say that, after about an hour, both Pari and Kai were wearing more than one flower chain, Pari even wearing one around her head. It was the same with the children, they all had a chain of flowers, some of the little girls having green fingertips because they had made so many chains. The children were so sweet here, maybe a little too trusting of strangers, but maybe that was just because Pari and Kai looked harmless?
By the time midday came around she was sat by the edge of the pool, waving goodbye to the children as they ran off for their meals. She had her shoes off and her trousers rolled up to her knee's, her feet dipped into the refreshingly cool water. Even in the shade, the midday sun was hot, Pari laid sprawled out, looking quite content to just lay there and daydream for the rest of the day. Her gaze was on the sky, a small smile on her lips as she absently played with one of her flower chains.
"Are you hungry again yet Kai? I could head back to the village to grab something for us if you would like?" She offered, looking back at him without sitting. Looking at him upsidedown like that made her a little dizzy and lightheaded, making her giggle to herself. "It's nice here. I wish we could just stay here...suppose we will be alright until late afternoon, then we will have to go and try to find an inn." She sighed heavily.
Unknown to Pari, their peace would be disturbed much sooner than she had imagined. She hadn't hidden her tracks as well as she would have liked, especially not from someone who knew her as well as her brother did. He had only just reached Sinna yet he already knew where they were, an irritable look on Dariyush's features as he trudges through the sand and towards the oasis. Oh, he was going to drag Pari back and lock her in her room, who would have thought that her head was so far in the clouds that she would ever think about running away.

He smirked at her and tilted his head as she looked at him upside down, as if trying to work out why she just didn't turn around instead of almost killing herself when the blood rushed to her head and made her dizzy. "I'm okay right now." he assured her with a light chuckle, stretching and settling back against the palm tree where it was shady and cool and everything the hot cities weren't. He wouldn't mind staying there till late afternoon. He wouldn't mind staying there forever if she'd let him. "If you're hungry though, I'll come with you to go and get somethin'." he offered as he glanced over at her, "I don't mind." he shrugged. He got up to stretch his legs then, absently lifting one of the delicate flower chains from around his neck and setting it on one of the branches of an overhanging tree. Otherwise he'd forget to take it off... and that would make him look even more strange.
He'd been about to talk to her again when he suddenly froze completely, eyes narrowing - his hand had even stopped halfway to touching one of the orchids, ears pricked up and his head turned towards the city. A faint scowl was on his face and then, cautiously as the breeze blew from the city over to them, he sniffed at the air. "I think someone who smells like you is on their way. I'm not sure... but they're getting closer. Is that good?" he asked softly, very quietly as though he was trying to get rid of any distractions that might make hearing more difficult for him. It was barely audible to him, and if he hadn't been purposely trying to listen then he wouldn't have caught the sound until it got very close to them, but it was definitely there.
Footsteps. Angry ones - they had to be angry, or at least irritable because they were a lot harder than ordinary footsteps, disturbing the sand more and actually making a noise. The spell seemed to have broken then, Kai ducking just a little to wander, silently towards the edges of the oasis, eyes searching out the little distance towards the city for anything peculiar. Tilting his head, he frowned as he spotted the figure. Even an ordinary person could have seen him at this distance, considering he was getting closer with every step he took. And he didn't look too happy either. "Pari, you know him?"

Pari sat up and pulled her feet out of the water so that she could pull her shoes back on. "I don't mind, you can come if you like. I just thought that you might want to stay out of the sun." She smiled to him, deftly fastening the buckles on her shoes before rising to her feet. "I think that it is safe here...then again...I don't know..." She murmured, looking torn as she looked to Kai. If he stayed here she would worry about him, what happened if someone found him while she was gone? Yet, she didn't want to drag him all the way back to the town and then all the way back up here at the hottest part of the day just so that she could fill her stomach. Oh, it was a difficult choice.
She was about to ask him what he thought when she noticed him stiffen up and his nose twitch; he could smell someone? "Someone that smell's like me?" She repeated, not quite sure what that meant. Maybe the flowers had confused his nose and it was just one of the children coming back to the oasis, but the sinking feeling in her stomach told her that she was wrong. What else could it mean then? Was a scent something that ran in the family? It was possible, as much as she hated to admit it, it was probable that she smelt at least similar to other members of her family.
She followed after Kai as he moved to check on who was coming, unconsciously hiding herself behind one of the palm tree's and peering around it cautiously. The look of shock on her face told that she knew the man without even having to speak, Pari swiftly ducking behind the tree again, but she wasn't fast enough. Dariyush had obviously seen her because he had narrowed his eyes and quickened his step. "Pari, I know you are there. Don't you dare move." He shouted, Pari scowling and shutting her eyes.
"That is my brother." She murmured to Kai, biting her bottom lip nervously, eyes darting around for somewhere to run or hide. The oasis was too small to hide in...and they were surrounded by desert, so there was nowhere to run to. Dariyush had them trapped.

"Hm? Your brother?" he murmured, scowling rather suddenly as he heard the man's voice ring out over the oasis as he spotted Pari. So this was who Roshan had spoken of; the over-protective sibling who, for some reason, Kai had not liked even before he had met him. Dariyush. He, unlike Pari, didn't even seem nervous, calmly surveying the noble as he drew ever closer, the man obviously not having spotted him because he'd been crouched down in the undergrowth of the oasis. Guards unnerved him, his Master unnerved him, but this guy? On his own, with desert on all sides of them... he couldn't say he was really that worried, even if, from what Pari had said about where she'd come from, Dariyush would be skilled and talented. Kai didn't see that as a problem though. That was a challenge.
It hadn't even occured to him that he was considering taking on Pari's brother and that she might be a little sensitive about it. By the way she was trying to find a place to hide he got the impression that she didn't really want to go back to wherever she had come from... and by the tone of her brother's voice he got the idea that taking her back was exactly what he had planned. Which was why, without even a second's hesitation, he rose to his feet in plain view of the noble, slowly and carefully, brushing off his clothes from where a few flower petals had dropped onto them and staring Dariyush in the face now. He was so much closer it was hard to believe how fast he must have been walking, and Kai looked him over with a predator's gaze.
He knew that Dariyush would have been at the arena when Kai had fought - Pari had been there, and so he would have been as well, which was why he knew it was highly likely that the man would recognise him almost instantly. Kai thought that he'd just let that little bit of recognition do the talking, and see what Dariyush made of him. Everything about the half-breed seemed to have changed; no longer was he carefree and relaxed and 'cute', as Pari would have thought. He was in the arena again, and it was hot and the sand would sting if he skidded on it, and her brother was the opponent that had just come out of the other gate. This probably wasn't going to end well.

Pari had slid down the trunk of the palm tree, looking almost resigned to the fact that she was going to have to go home now, her eyes closed and mind racing as she tried to come up with the perfect excuse to stop Dariyush from taking Kai back to the arena. She suppose that, if the worst came to the worst, she could always try to make herself cry. Dariyush had never had the heart to say no to her when she cried at him, maybe that would work this time. But then what? What would happen to Kai then? They couldn't just leave him here, but she doubted that Dariyush would let him come back with them because of all the trouble that it would cause. Ahhh, she couldn't think quickly enough, and she swore that even she could hear her brother's footsteps as he drew closer.
Pari hadn't noticed Kai stand up, but Dariyush certainly had, the man pausing at the edge of the clearing to let out a heavy, irritated sigh. "Oh great, so now she's got herself a guard dog." He mumbled, narrowing his eyes at Kai. Everything about Kai told that he was ready to fight, and that was just the icing on the cake. He hadn't expected the slave to be around, he'd have thought that he would have run off and left Pari...obviously Dariyush wasn't that lucky.
"Move or I will move you. Only warning." He snappped, cracking his knuckles as he moved to stride towards Kai, not even glancing to Pari as he noticed her pop up from where she was hiding, the girl looking confused as she looked up at Kai. Ah, now this was the man that she had seen in the arena, and she found herself subconsciously reaching for one of her daggers. "...Kai..." She murmured, her voice gentle and controlled, though there was a small scowl on her features. "...what you doing?"

Kai would probably would have managed to keep his temper in check if it hadn't been for that little statement of Dariyush's. A dog? He had called him a dog. That was when he stopped seeing sense, and a rather dangerous growl bubbled up in his throat, fangs bared at the noble. It had been literally years since Kai had last lost his temper, and the reason for it now was really... unexplainable. He guessed it must have been an adding up of lots of things - his Master almost catching them, the initial escape from the arena, and the sinking, relentless doom that Dariyush's appearance brought. It was obvious as soon as he had appeared and Pari had panicked that the game was up and they had been found. And that meant there was only one place for him to go back to, and that was right into the hands of his Master.
Ah, well. If it really was over then maybe he could injure or maim the noble enough so that they would think he was rabid and kill him or something ridiculous like that. He hoped for death, because it was either that or the arena. And he wasn't going back there. It was rather ironic that the accusation that he was nothing more than an animal had brought out the animalistic side in him. Ah, well. Nevermind. Pari's words slipped right over his head, as did Dariyush's commands. Kai didn't need words to intimidate and get things done, he just did them.
A second passed and Kai was gone from where he had been standing, flitting forwards to strike at Dariyush and quickly dance away again, into the sand and the sunlight. It was hot, much hotter in the direct light, but he could deal with that. He'd dealt with that for years, one last time wouldn't matter to him. "Warnings are for nobles." he snarled, pale eyes narrowing as he dashed forward to attack again.
