Fujikoru choked as Kamui lied for Chiisai, giving him a sideways glare. True, he hadn't wanted to tell on Chiisai, either, but Fujikoru had the sneaking suspicion this man had lied to save Chiisai trouble, not himself, which he didn't like. The little brat deserved it, in his opinion, and it was hard to tell whether Kimiko would even be mad or not. She seemed to get along with Kamui, which was an accomplishment in itself, but it was doubtful that she liked him enough to yell at her beloved pet on his behalf. The only person Kimiko actually liked seemed to be Nakagima, and she'd never admit it.
Fortunately for him, Kimiko did not hear his choke and did not see his glare.
"Oh," she said dismissively. "I'll have to go to the Abyss eventually, but, for now, there's plenty to keep me entertained." She leaned back, placing her palms behind her to support herself and trying not to put too much pressure on her ribs. "We need a new mark." She began to sigh, but it ended in a groan as the expansion of her lungs caused her pain. She leaned forward again, frowning and hugging herself.
"Are you al---" Fujikoru started, but the lethal glare she sent him shut him up.
"I'm fine," she hissed. "Quit babying me. I'm more than capable of handling a little pain. I've had broken ribs before."

"I think ya' should just relax for awhile before ya' think about fightin'." Kaui said. "Won't your injuries jus' be a liability? In any case, I've got more bark if ya' want it." He pulled from his pocket another piece of willow bark, like the one he had given Kimiko before.
(It's a bit short. My apologies.)

"Thinking about fighting won't get me anymore injuries," Kimiko retorted, shaking her head at the offering of willow bark. "I like to be prepared. And no thanks." She stopped hugging her sides. She was still in pain, but maybe that would stop them from pampering her. "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger."
"She lives by those words," Fujikoru said, something in his voice making it obvious that he didn't.

Kamui shrugged and returned the bark to his pocket. "Yeah, I suppose..." He grinned. "Unless, ya' know, it leaves ya' horribly maimed or crippled..." He shrugged again. "Anyway, I suppose it can't hurt ta' think about it. What do ya' look for in a mark, if ya' don't mind me askin'?"

"They have to be strong," Kimiko answered simply. "That's all, really. I don't care if they're good or evil. Just so long as they're strong and that someone will hear of it. I have to make a reputation for myself."
"It would be preferable if it was someone Kimiko could win against," Fujikoru said. "Oryk was a death-wish."
"I could have beat him," Kimiko growled. "I went into my demon form too quickly. I could have gotten the upper hand eventually." Fujikoru decided it was best not to argue, especially as he hadn't been there, but he hardly believed it. He understood she was very capable, of course, but he had definitely warned her against Oryk. "I suppose I don't always suspect my enemies will be ticklish. I should have tried that." Kimiko smiled, staring into the flames. Fujikoru, of course, did not understand what she had meant and had thought it better not to ask.

"Well," He grinned, "I find that unorthodox methods can sometimes be quite effective indeed." He rubbed his chin for a moment, as if in thought. "Hmm. They hafta be strong, ya' say? Let's see... Oh, I know. Have ya' ever thought about takin' out that infamous outlaw, Kamui Syvil? He's got a huge bounty on his head, wanted all over, so I bet he must be strong, huh?" He laughed. "Though, I suppose, findin' him might be hard. Everyone has their own version and description of him."
(Haha. I couldn't resist having him ask her.)

"Daidaiiro Furousha," Kimiko said, the name instantly bringing up many different pictures she'd been painted by the numerous tales she'd heard. She shrugged. "Really, I don't think finding him would be worth it. I mean, no one knows enough about him and he never stays in one place long enough to spot out. Just as soon as rumours come up that he's in one area, he's vanished." She frowned. "I have to admit, I tried seeking him out not too long ago. Not so much for a fight as a chance to see which of the stories I'd heard were true. Some Avalan idiot was going on about how he'd been seen at the Erian queen's coronation. I went to check it out, but he'd gone by the time I arrived." She snorted, obviously still rather bitter about it. "Coward." Fujikoru's eyes grew wide at her boldness, but she went on. "If he was really the hardened beast that others say he is, he wouldn't be hard to find, would he?"
"B-but Kimiko-sama!" Fujikoru sputtered. "He must be a warrior of some sort. He has wanted posters plastered all over every surface of Avalas and we've heard much of him in Hagakarin." Kimiko rolled her eyes.
"And Marmosia, I believe," Kimiko continued. "But what does it really matter? He's impossible to find, isn't he? Stronger demons than I have tried and failed."
"Some say he's actually a female," Fujikoru said. Kimiko burst into unabashed laughter. It hurt her sides, but she couldn't help it. When she finally regained her composure, she wiped a tear of mirth from her eye.
"Kamui is not a female name, Fuji," she said condescendingly. "I've never in my life heard that rumour."
"They say she takes on a male name so that she can be fully appreciated," Fujikoru said defensively. "Do you think a female would ever be able to be as infamous as Kamui Syvil?" Kimiko's smile instantly left her face and it was obvious Fujikoru had hit a nerve. She turned to him, eyes burning fiercer than the fire. Fujikoru was lost for words.
"Are you suggesting, Fujikoru, that I take on a male alias?" she hissed venomously. She caught control of her temper and put his unintentional insult from her mind as best as she could. She wouldn't want to break his neck now, while she was injured and it was painful merely to laugh. "If there's one thing I know about this Kamui Syvil," she said, calmness restored to her voice, "it's that he is a man. Besides, the Avalan man was going on about how people talked of some scandal between him and the queen." Fujikoru choked in surprise. "Yes, that's what he was saying, and he's not the only one, either. The elves think it, too, but they don't say it out of respect for Queenie."
"That's preposterous! I would have heard," Fujikoru said.
"Well, he had orange hair," Kimiko argued. "If there's on consistency in all his tales, it's that he has orange hair. Someone said something about a tail, too."
"You can't be sure he has a tail," Fujikoru counted. "That's not consistent in all the tales."
"But it's there in several of them, which is more than you can say of him secretly being female," Kimiko said jeeringly. "Apparently, someone was overheard calling him Sy."
"See? It's not him," Fujikoru said at once.
"Sy. Syvil! Are you really that idiotic?"
"Just a coincidence!"
"Why, if I wasn't wounded!"
"Eep, sorry, Kimiko-sama! Forgive my insolence!"

Kamui laughed a bit as he listened to them talk, the tip of his tail swaying lazily to and fro . "But a female, huh? I wonder..." He put a finger on his chin. 'Hmm... There was that belt of gender-changin'...' He shook his head as if to clear it. "Nah, you're probably right. I think he's a male, too. But there are plenty of infamous women, like that Kuaixing or the Maester. Oh, an' Kamui an' the queen are just friends." He laughed nervously and rubbed the back of his head, "Aheheh.. Or, uh, so I've heard... Orange hair? Tail? ...Hey, maybe I'm Kamui Syvil, eh?"

Kimiko smiled at Kamui's comment, obviously looking for some hint that he was jesting. Fujikoru burst into laughter, relentless, until he was gasping for air. Kimiko looked from Kamui's hair to his tail, then back to his face, the smile still set in her lips. He had given no sign that he was joking, but it couldn't be true, could it? Still, Kimiko decided to keep the joke going for her own amusement.
"You?" she finally said, raising an eyebrow. "What would the infamous Daidaiiro Furousha be doing here? I suppose I should be immensely grateful that the heartless Kamui Syvil healed me instead of tearing me to bits, as rumors tell is in his nature." Fujikoru was in tears by now. "Saved my life, even! And then brought me food." Fujikoru was near asphyxiation at this point. "And stayed to converse with me. You must be really bored these days, Kamui-sama. Sitting here having conversation with a mere half-breed when you could be destroying whole cities, as rumors tell you're prone to doing. I must be quite the entertainment!" Fujikoru was cradling his sides as Kimiko had been doing earlier, about ready to faint. He had been calming down until Kimiko had used an honorary suffix to address this other man. He had never before heard her say "sama."
Chiisai was looking rather irritable, being awoken so abruptly by Fujikoru's relentless howling. He snorted in dislike, leapt into Kamui's lap, and hid in one of the man's pockets, trying to block out the annoying laughter.

Yibbles remained asleep. When asleep, the piglet really was in his own little world, which at the moment consisted of him and Kamui and endless amounts of mushrooms and berries. Not even Fujikoru's raucous laughter could pull the piglet from that. Sakurako remained silent, but had a look that read exactly what she was thinking, which was 'baka'. Kamui let the little fox do what he wanted and didn't mind Chiisai burrowing into his pocket. "Don't cha think it's fittin' for the progeny of a demon lord, my infamous reputation?" He said, also keeping the "joke" going. "Oh, but haven't you heard the rumors? Some say I'm just a half-demon, like yourself. In any case, destroying cities is quite troublesome. It takes a lotta work ta' scare away the residents so there aren't any casualties." He put out his hands, and shook his head, "But what's this "sama" business, eh? That's too formal for my taste... How 'bout Kamui-kun, eh?"

Kimiko chuckled at Kamui, obviously entertained by the conversation.
"I wouldn't know whether to believe he is a half-demon or not," she said thoughtfully. "You never hear a full demon repeat that rumor. It could just as easily be wishful thinking on the half-demons' part as it could be denial on the part of the pure demons. It'd be nice if he was. It's not common of a half-demon to break the mold and become famous." She pushed her hair from her face and examined Kamui again. "There certainly are coincidences in your appearance, aren't there? The tail and the hair. But I don't think you have the right character. Heroics don't seem the thing befitting of one such as Kamui Syvil."

"The right character?" Kamui said. "No... I suppose not..." "Waah!" He burst out with crocodile tears, crying into his sleeve. "Life is so cruel! I'm not such a bad guy, am I? Yet I'm branded a villain wherever I go!" Then just like that, he was shrugging. "Ah, well. What can ya' do?" From one of his pockets he took another mushroom and began to nibble on it.

Kimiko seemed amused at Kamui's short outburst.
"No, I suppose you're not such a bad guy," she said shortly. Fujikoru frowned, not much liking that she gave this complete stranger a compliment so freely. "I'd almost venture so far as to say you're good to a fault, but perhaps I presume too much." She shook her hair from her face. "But even a good man like yourself must have some stories..." Why Kimiko was so interested in Kamui was a wonder to Fujikoru. In fact, he highly doubted that even she knew what was so intriguing about this wanderer. But it remained that he was, there was just something different about him and the harder one tried to deduce what it was, the more confused one became.
Content in Kamui's warm pocket, Chiisai was asleep again, lulled into slumber by the thump of Kamui's heart and the crackle of the campfire.

"A story, huh? All right, let's see..." He scratched his chin, looking to be in thought for a moment. "Well, there was this one time at this tavern in a coastal town somewhere in the Xyndi Empire. It was filled with Demian pirates. I got ta' talkin' with the captain. He had a bounty on his head, so I challenged him... to a dance-off. He was good, but I ended up throwing the competition, though I think the captain was suspicious. In any case, he offered me a spot on his crew, but the tavern was starting to get crowded. By that, I mean a mercenary of some sort, who recognized me by name. I decided ta' avoid a fight, slipped outta the tavern, an' was on my wanderin' way."
(Your characters always seem to ask Kamui for a story, huh?)

ooc;; They just can't help themselves.
bic;; Kimiko listened to his story, even laughing at hearing the word "dance-off." Fujikoru was determined not to join her in laughter and tried his best not to listen, but he did have to hide a smile or two.
"That's interesting, to say the least," Kimiko commented, still smiling. "I can't say I've ever participated in a... 'dance-off'." She looked thoughtful for a moment, wondering if she even remembered how to dance. It had been a long time since she'd lived among the humans. It seemed like a distant dream by now, one that had ended far too quickly, one that you fell asleep at night wishing you would start in it where you had left off.
"Abomination." She winced inwardly, shaking the memories from her head.
Chiisai twitched his legs in his sleep, chasing a silver, shiny butterfly in a dream he was having.
