Devin didn't quite know how he'd gotten into Win Dain Island. He also didn't really know how he'd managed to get lost. He'd been on a job, he knew that much; the ins and outs of the job were kind of fuzzy, but this much was clear; it hadn't been anywhere in the vicinity of the island. He'd been on his way to get the job done when Raziel decided he'd like to show his cheerful face, right on cue. Then, hours, perhaps even a day later, Devin had woken up here, and he'd been wandering ever since. It was only by chance of a scribbled map in his pocket that he even knew where he was. It was strange, really; Raziel usually hated the countryside with a passion, and would avoid it at all costs. The ex-knight didn't know what had caused his 'alter-ego' to have such an abrupt change of heart, and he didn't care to ask.
It was a warm, humid day, the air even closer thanks to the canopy of greenery that hung overhead, and Devin had his sword out to hack a trail through the foliage until he found the main path. If he found the main path. He didn't know. He sighed after a while, fell to a halt and leant against the tree, wiping the sweat from his brow and lowering his sword. His arm felt like it was on fire, so he swapped the sword to his other hand and fell quiet to take in his surroundings. It was solid green, as it had been for the last... forever.
"Damn it, Raziel." he cursed in a soft, low voice, rubbing the back of his neck and stepping away from the tree. He checked himself over; he'd taken off his shirt to counter the heat of the forestry, wearing only the leather vest and having obtained a few cuts and scrapes as a result. He sheathed his sword, rolling one shoulder and deciding that, for a while at least, he would try to pick his way to a path that might or might not be there without a weapon.

Why did this always happen to her?
At this moment, she found herself in the dense forest of Win Dain, surrounded and outnumbered. She hadn't been looking for a fight, honestly, but she always seemed to end up in some sort of trouble like this. This land was unfamiliar to her, so of course it seemed to call to her to come and explore. And in no time, she had gotten lost in the forest. She had worked through it for hours and still saw no sign of civilization. There was plenty of water and food to be found in the forest, that was no problem. But after a while, anyone could go a little stir crazy without any human interaction.
"Look...I don't wish to fight you..." She murmured, bow raised as she shifted, not sure which of the thieves to aim it at. She had her dagger safely hidden at her waist in case she needed and she just might. Her eyes flickered uneasily from one thief to another, unable to brush the loose hair from her face as her hands clenched her bow and arrow tightly. She was looking a little worse for wear, covered in dirt and brush, eyes alert yet had slight circles under them to show she hadn't had enough sleep lately. Her ears twitched at any movement of the band of thieves, waiting for them to make the first move.

"Oh, don't worry, beautiful," one of the thieves stepped forward, a gruff, middle aged man with a full beard and a glint of wary cunningness in his eyes, telling that he had been stealing for probably almost as long as he had been living, "We don't wish to fight you either. We wish to kill you, and take what you've got. Maybe after a little fun, first..." he laughed, a harsh cackle of a sound which echoed throughout the surrounding forest. Without a further word, the men on his left and right rushed forwards towards Alryia.
Devin had sheathed his sword and managed to fight his way through at least a little bit of the dense undergrowth when he first heard the laugh. It sounded close, and he had to look over his shoulder just to make sure that someone hadn't been following him and had just decided to make their presence known to him. He turned slowly towards the direction of the laugh, second guessing himself. Had it been real? Or was he just going mad (more mad, rather) from being on his own for so long? Cautiously, he picked his way towards the sound. He peered out into a clearing just as two men rushed towards a woman, a half-elf by the seems of things. Not too uncommon for Win Dain. Nonetheless, this wasn't what Devin had been expecting for his first glimpse of humanity in a fair few days.
His eyes narrowed as he identified the men as thieves, suppressing a growl. The injustice of the situation was painfully clear. The woman was outnumbered. The woman. He had drawn his sword without even thinking; while not angry, he was certainly moving on instinct, this made apparent when he rushed out into the fray. Gods, he could be stupid sometimes. Who would rush out into a group of dangerous thieves, just as outnumbered as their victim, to fight to try and save the day? Devin Hartzell, of course. One day, he was going to get killed doing the right thing. He could tell.

Alyria frowned, eyes darting to the man that spoke up, obviously the leader. She was outnumbered and surrounded, so he wasn't right, it wouldn't be much of a fight. 'I'd rather die than give up so easily...' She thought to herself, raising her bow as they rushed at her. How fast could she get these arrows off to defend herself, she couldn't tell. But the first target was definately the man that had spoken first. He just seemed to get on her nerves. As she pulled her arm back tight, about to let go of the arrow when some idiot jumped into the middle of the fight, right in her line of sight.
"Wha..?!" She tried to stop the arrow, but it was too late so she had to quickly aim it somewhere else, hitting another thief in the arm. Who was this guy, helping her? She fired two more arrows at two of the other thieves. Then she had to throw down her weapon and start hand to hand combat with one of them, knocking him hard in the jaw and one other to a place that made him cry. She turned to find someone else when she felt her arm twisted into an unnatural position behind her back. "Aaahhh!!" Looks behind her by the corner of her eye to see it was the head thief. 'Oh crap.....'

Devin had managed to dispatch a few of the thieves already, leaving the majority knocked out on the ground around him. He wasn't a fan of killing people and he didn't think he ever would be, so unconscious was a step back from dead. Whatever stopped these bastards from ganging up on a defenceless woman. Well, he corrected himself, not entirely defenceless. That would be rather patronising of him, considering her obvious skill with a bow. He was just straightening up from one of the men when a scream reached his ears, causing the ex-knight to whip around, sword in hand. His gaze fell on the leader of the thieves, whose back was to him. Oh, that sneaky...
"Hey, d'you mind?" Devin questioned, marching up behind the thief and grabbing him by the back of the neck, his sword sheathed and a small dagger drawn, which he pressed threateningly into his side. He had no intention of stabbing the man, of course not, but getting him away from Alryia was probably the most important thing right now. With pure strength, he wrenched the thief back, frowning down at him. "Look around," he muttered, motioning to his unconscious gang, "Now you're outnumbered. Give up," he shook his head. Removing the dagger, he thrust the thief away from him, one hand resting obviously on his sword, as if to warn that he would draw it if he had to.
His gaze flitted between the criminal and Alryia. "Are you all right?" he asked.
