Life was just one big game to Kevay, and the people players. He just drifted from town to town seducing the women and leaving a trail of broken hearts in his wake. He didn't care for the feelings of those that he used, by the time he had left them they had already been forgotten. Charm and seduction were his favourite tricks, and he could think of no better game than seeing how quickly he could steal a woman's heart, how much he could make them blush or how quickly he could make them faint. It could be a little bit of a dangerous game though. Take his adventures in Avoir as an example. He had spent his time wooing the young and rather beautiful wife of the head of the guards, who hadn't been all that happy to find Kevay in bed with his wife. Therefore he was having to use the cover of the carnival to slip out of town before he was arrested and hung, or something equally as unpleasant and brutal. Had he learnt his lesson though? Of course not!
He seemed to have read her mind about the jealous glares seeing as he looked up and offered a smile to the world, winking as a group of women who had been looking particulalrly jealous. He couldn't understand their jealousy. Kevay had time for all of them! Well, if they weren't so boring and average he might have had time for them...but right now his attention was firmly fixed on his colourful little friend. Hmmm, maybe they were right to be jealous of Lexie afterall?
"Sounds like an excellent plan to me." He grinned to the jester as he held his arm out for her to take. "Let's be off shall we. Oh, and try not to bump into any guards...I'm not so popular with the guards." He told her with an impish smirk, pushing his hair back from his face with his free hand.

She smirked then and took his arm, nodding lightly as she let him lead them off into the carnival. "Oh, that's alright, I'm not very popular with them either. We'll both have to keep an eye out for the guards, I guess." she nodded to him, giving a rather cautious look to the women he'd winked at, praying they weren't going to try and leap out and murder her horribly. It was true, there was something strange about Kevay (and that was putting it lightly), something she'd definitely be asking about if it got to the point where she could actually talk to him without the fear she'd faint right into his arms. But she seemed to be doing pretty well, right? Disregarding that if she let go of his arm she might very well fall onto the floor. But that didn't matter, did it?
The carnival was really getting under way now as the afternoon drew on, and Lexie soon found herself distracted from Kevay (somehow) as she watched the people tottering on stilts in even more flambuoyant outfits than she was wearing, and walked around the dancers who weaved and skipped to the sounds of jovial music. There were even stalls and games and floats with bright colours, and Lexie was actually beginning to feel pretty NORMAL with what she was wearing, which was unusual to say the least.
"Oh! Look!" she smiled brightly as a group of beautiful women suddenly emerged from a large, slowly moving float, all of whom wore masks and grand, bright and ruffled dresses, leaving trails of glitter in the air where they moved. They must have been from the upper classes just from the quality of what they were wearing, and Lexie tilted her head curiously as she watched them. They were obviously dancers, but there was something about the way they moved that suggested magic was involved, and she frowned ever so slightly in concentration as she tried to figure out what it was. "Aaah... they're levitating, look!" she caught it eventually, nodding to the dancers whose toes, you could see if you looked closely enough, didn't touch the floor, giving them a kind of majestic grace.

Lexie was doing remarkably well with dealing with Kevay's company. The fact that she was able to walk was something on it's own. Yes, he was supporting her, but by this point most other women were either being carried by him, sat down or had fainted. Plus, she was able to speak to him in full sentences rather than just a disjointed jumble of words. Actually, thinking about how well she was doing made him pout faintly. He would just have to try harder, wouldn't he? He'd not yet met a woman that he couldn't charm the pants off of, and Lexie would not be the first. He refused to be deafeated by a jester! It just wasn't going to happen.
However, once they reached the main part of the carnival his plotting faded from his mind. There was so much colour! The look of amazement on his face must have been priceless as his eyes flickered around, a true smile touching his features. He adored this carnival. He was thinking about following it about, but dismissed that idea. Too much of a good thing wasn't good for anyone, if he was always around such colour and life then it would lose it's sparkle.
And then those women appeared and wiped his mind clear. They were colourful and glittery and oh so very pretty, he just wanted one of them. Without a word to Lexie he started drifting in the same direction as the women, hardly seeming to realise that he was dragging her along with him. Poor Kevay was easily distracted with so much going on. He was lucky that his mind hadn't exploded yet from over stimulation.

Lexie was just special like that, she guessed... or maybe just stupid. Or odd. Either way, she let out a little squeak of surprise as she found herself being dragged away towards the dancers with this beautiful gentleman, only realising a few moments later that Kevay didn't seem to notice that they were currently dancing and in the middle of something that didn't involve him charming the pants off of them. But weirdly enough, Lexie got the feeling that them being preoccupied wouldn't affect his charms in the slightest. This slightly worried her, actually. "Um... K...Kevay, you need to stop. Or they're gonna run into us you know." she managed with a light smile, acting to try and tug him away from the dancers before they crashed into them and made a scene. Well, more of a scene. Oh, this was going to be an interesting day.
She found herself rather emotionally exhausted by the time the sun was beginning to sink under the horizon, painting the sky in beautiful pinks and blues as night fell. Keeping up with Kevay was tiring enough, but keeping her emotions in check was another thing altogether. She was convinced now that he wasn't entirely normal, and a few times she'd had to sit down or stop herself from swooning at his feet. These were all entirely new emotions to Lexie, so that didn't help at all. Currently she was sat upon a rather high wall near the middle of the square where the carnival had been held (everything was packing up now apart from the dancers and the stalls, considering the the carnival was supposed to continue well into the early hours of the morning) eating a toffee apple, looking up at the sky rather interestedly. They'd said there would be...
"Whoaaaa..." she grinned suddenly as a sharp whistle broke out over the mild noise of the crowd, shooting up into the sky and exploding in an array of fantastic reds and yellows, their sparkles lighting up in Lexie's eyes. Fireworks!

Kevay had to agree with Lexie, today had been exhausting. The hours had passed in a whirl of colour and music and dancing, so much had happened that his mind hadn't been able to keep up with it, nevermind remember it all. It had been a good day. He had been able to fit everything that he loved into one day. Womanizing, mischief, charming women, colours...everything! All that he needed to finish it off was maybe a glass of good wine. Yes, that would be a good end to the day; enjoying a nice red wine in a cosy tavern somewhere. Escaping Avoir could wait until tomorrow now, he would leave with the others that had visited for the carnival and disappear to explore the rest of this country.
He was perched on the wall next to Lexie, his arm randomly thrown around her waist. Well, where else was he supposed to put it? His hand wasn't in the way on her side, in a totally unoffensive place, and she wasn't complaining, so he figured that he would just leave it there. His attention was on the people that were still wandering about, watching a dancer who was twirling up the street. He might have gone to dance with her if she was a little more attractive, but as things stood he was happy sat with his little rainbow. He had decided that Lexie was a talking rainbow, and had even started calling her Rain, but he was a little strange sometimes, wasn't he?
Kevay 'ooohhhh'ed' with the rest of the crowd as the first firework went off, lighting up his upturned face as the coloured sparks flahed across the dark sky. "I like carnivals...don't you? They are so pretty. Everything should be this pretty..." He murmured, half to himself, smiling as he glanced to Lexie. "You are lucky if you live like this all the time."

No, Lexie didn't seem to have a problem with his arm around her waist. At all. She'd even managed to get used to the scathing, venomous looks from anyone female who happened to be in distance of Kevay's charm; she had worked out that it seemed to attract women within a kind of radius, so far. Women beyond a certain distance seemed to look dazed and confused once he'd passed them by (something she found amusing to no end) and new ones gave him that typical star-struck look as they had walked. It was uncanny. Also funny. "Mm?" she glanced back at him as he spoke, tearing her attention away from the bright, sparkling fireworks. "I do like carnivals." she agreed with a rather dazed smile, leaning against him ever so slightly. "I've never been to one with fireworks before..." she admitted, suddenly vaulting down from the wall with what looked like a great deal of difficulty.
The second thing that she'd worked out was that, when you were within the radius of this mystery man's charm and allure it was practically impossible to escape, which was why she leant back against the wall upon landing to stop herself melting onto the floor like a puddle of giggly feminine goo. "C'mon, let's go get a better look." she called up to him with a smile, taking a second to compose herself before skipping off towards the town centre (although not too quickly of course, she'd give him time to follow).
"Oh, it's not always like this all the time..." she murmured softly, looking up at the sky again now. "Days like this only happen now and then... usually I'm the person that makes the colour that people enjoy." she flicked her hand to let a miniature firework display light up above her palm. "But I gotta admit, it's nowhere near as good as the real thing..." she smiled at him happily. She was distracted now, which was why she didn't see the figure in the sweeping cloak approach them, scrutinising Kevay as if trying to decide whether he was the person he was looking for, before reaching over to tap him lightly on the shoulder.
"Excuse me...? Kevay Taylor, right?" he asked quietly.

Kevay almost fell from the wall as Lexie suddenly disappeared from next to him, pouting like a child as he looked at the space that she had occupied. "Raiiiin, you disappeared." He complained as he waved his hand through the space that she had been sat in, his gaze shifting down to the bottom of the wall to look at her. "You almost made me fall." He added in, rolling his eyes at her a little. She was easy to forgive though, expecially when she suggested getting a better look at the fireworks. That seemed like a good idea. If they were going to watch the fireworks then they should have a good view of them, he just hoped that they were still going off by the time they found a better viewing space.
Kevay elegantly slipped down from the wall, landing gently next to Lexie, spending a moment smoothing out his clothing and brushing away the dust before he looked to her and smiled. "Well, if it's not like this all the time I shouldn't follow the carnival, I would just be disappointed." He nodded, smirking as she made the little firework. "No, not quiet as good as the real thing, but it is still a pretty little trick." He told her, stretching out as he looked back to the sky to watch another firework explode overhead. Hmmm, he wondered if you could capture those colours in fabric? That would have to be his next experiment, he would have to make a firework inspired dress.
Kevay suddenly scowled as the man spoke his name, seeming suspicious as he looked to him. It wasn't a good sign when someone came looking for him, and he was ready to throw Lexie over his shoulder and run if this situation took a turn for the worse. "I might be, it depends on who is looking for him."

Lexie frowned a little and let the firework illusion fade from her palm as Kevay moved to look at the stranger. Considering her new companion usually gave off the 'carefree and spontaneous' vibe, seeing him turn so suddenly suspicious couldn't be a good sign. She looked the stranger up and down, narrowing her eyes a little. All she could tell was that he was male, and he wasn't from Avoir. His accent was Avalan... even faintly Marmosian, perhaps. All thoughts of the magnificent display going on behind them were put on hold, and she moved to stand next to Kevay.
The stranger only smirked from beneath the shadows of the hood of his cloak, as if the suspicion was all the confirmation he needed. "I was told to find a Kevay Taylor and inform him that my master has found someone that may be of great import to him. All I know is that her name is Lady Jayne Beaumont, and that if you wish to speak with her you must go to Villefleur, a town east of here, and follow these directions." he paused to draw a small, perfectly rolled up scroll with a blue ribbon attached, and handed it to Kevay. "I believe it's a mansion of some kind, located on the outskirts of Villefleur. But that's all I can tell you." he murmured. With that, he gave a polite bow and turned away again, without a word to either of them. In seconds he had faded back into the crowd, and she couldn't make him out. Lexie didn't even have a chance to ask him what he was talking about.
Indeed, the little jester seemed perturbed by the scroll in Kevay's hands, tilting her head at it and frowning a little. Did this happen to him often? "What was all of that about...?" she asked softly, looking up just in time to see the last, bright blue firework go off, filling the dark sky with glittering light that reflected in her eyes. "...You're not gonna go, are you?" she glanced back at him once the sparks had faded. "That guy seemed pretty strange. I didn't like the way he spoke."

It was common for men to come looking for Kevay, but something felt different about this man. For a start, the man hadn't lunged at him and tryed to strangle the life out of him yet, and secondly was that he couldn't see any anger or heartbreak in his aura. It was possible that he was hired help, but he would still have a hint of anger in his aura, and Kevay couldn't sense any. However, it soon became clear that the man was, in fact, hired help, though the message that he carried was much more sinister.
At the mention of the name everything about Kevay's demeanour changed. That self assured confidence slipped away, as did his seemingly carefree nature. His fists clenched and his eyes widened, his heart suddenly beating erratically within his chest. His shock at hearing that name was evident, and it was also glaringly obvious that the name had stirred up old and unpleasant feelings. He snatched the parchment for the man's hand, tearing off the ribbon and dropping it to the floor, hurridely unfurling the parchment to reveal the map.
He didn't look up as the man left, nor did he seem to hear what Lexie was saying to him. He was shaking as he studied the map, his mind reeling. "Villefleur..." He murmured to himself, tracing a finger over the map as he worked out where he needed to go. If he set off now he should be there within a day or two...the sooner the better. He needed to go now...and if he 'borrowed' a horse. "Hmmm...gotta go..." He mumbled as he folded the paper messily and jammed it into his pocket. "Horses...need horses."

Lexie actually found herself feeling unnerved by the dramatic change in his personality, looking worried as he pored over the map like a man possessed. Though recognition flashed through her eyes at the name of the town of Villefleur; she may have passed through that place on her way to Avoir. She'd been in Ecritetre for about a week now even if she had only been in Avoir for a few hours, and that name definitely sounded familiar. "The eastern road would get you out of here the fastest... then it's a couple days to Villefleur, maybe less on a horse." she put in quietly, not quite knowing what to say to him, especially considering he hadn't appeared to hear her when she'd spoken before.
Eventually she rested her hand on his arm, tactfully ignoring the little flutter in her chest and pushing it back. Something was wrong, this was no time to swoon! "C'mon... I've got an idea." she murmured, attempting to lead him away from the streets and back along the carnival. The lights were still glittering and the music was still light hearted and jovial, people meandering left and right and laughing together, but the atmosphere couldn't have changed more for Lexie. As they passed a stall she swiftly snatched an apple from the several crates, disappearing into the darkness before the vendor had even seen her pass. It wasn't long before she found what she was looking for; the guards didn't bother to tether their horses when they were only leaving for a few minutes, and one such stallion was waiting nearby for his master, in one of the emptier, shaded streets.
"We used to do this when times were hard and we were travelling... me and my family, I mean." she murmured, clicking her tongue to get the horse's attention and waving the apple enticingly. After a few tries the black stallion trotted over to them, Lexie taking his reins to lead him slowly away from where his master was likely to look for him, patting his haunches as she fed him the apple. "Seems like he's in good shape... will he do?"

His gaze jumped to Lexie as she put her hand on his arm, taking a moment to realise who she was; at least he had remembered that she was still there. He tilted his head at her as she spoke before sighing heavily and nodding. "Mmm, east road." He agreed, still seeming distracted, still scowling. He seemed lost in the past, hardly paying attention to anything that was happening in the real world. If it wasn't for Lexie he would have probably just stood there and brooded until he decided what he was going to do, but as it was he was going to have to brood as he followed her around.
His shoulders were drooped as he walked, shuffling his feet as he trailed along after Lexie, not paying any attention to where she was talking him. He lingered next to her as she lured the horse to them, seeming vaguly impressed by the skill actually. He'd have just walked into a stables and taken a horse, Lexie way was much more subtle. A smile ghosted over his features as he reached out to touch the horse's neck, nodding to Lexie. "Good horse, he'll do."
Without warning Kevay suddenly lifted Lexie up to sit in the saddle before clambering up to sit behind her, wrapping one arm securly around her waist so that she wouldn't fall while holding onto the reins with his other hands. "Let's go...I don't know where I'm going...but I'm going there quickly." He told her, sighing heavily before spurring the horse into a quick trot. Well, it looked like he was stealing Lexie anyway, just not under the circumstances that he had originally planned.

Lexie squeaked a little in surprise as he suddenly just plonked her up there in the saddle. She hadn't realised he'd been planning to steal her along for this sudden and weird little trip of his... whatever his reasons for going, she had a feeling this Jayne whatever was something to do with it, and she didn't think she'd make a very good impression on the 'Lady'. But it didn't look as though she had a choice now as he spurred the horse into a quick trot, the stallion soon getting used to his instruction and leading them swiftly through the darkness towards the eastern road, which would eventually lead them to the town on the map.
"Villefleur... that's where that horrid man said to go, anyway..." she murmured as she adjusted herself to sit more comfortably on the horse. Lexie had learned to ride even without a saddle, so her balance was pretty good on the stallion, but she was rather thankful for Kevay's arm around her waist to stop her slipping off. She wasn't that tall, and the guard who had owned the horse obviously had been, since her feet were nowhere near the stirrups even if she'd wanted to use them. And she was incredibly thankful for the fact that Kevay couldn't see her face, considering the vibrant pink blush that stood out on her cheeks. Even with his dramatic mood swing, Lexie had learned a third thing about Kevay - apparently his charm didn't get any less irresistable when he wasn't in a charming sort of mood.
Which brought her abruptly to the other questions lurking just underneath her consciousness, the little jester looking straight into the darkness as they rode now. "What's going on, anyway? That guy said something, and you changed... who - maybe even what - are you?" she asked softly, not fully expecting to get a response. But the questions had been nagging at her all day, and being practically kidnapped (not that she particularly minded) had been the last straw.

Kevay didn't see it quite as kidnapping, more like he was borrowing her, for moral support. If she really wanted, alfter all this was over he would return her back to...whoever or whereever she belonged, but for now she was his travel partener...or hostage depending on how you looked at it. She didn't seem to mind though, she hadn't objected, yet anyway. She was even the one who had found their mode of transportation, so that meant that she wanted to tag along, right? Well, in his mind it meant that she wanted to tag along.
"I'm Kevay, I already told you that." He mumbled in response to her question, though by now his scowl had eased a little. It seemed that her question had pushed his memories out of his mind, at least for the time being anyway. "It's a secret, I don't know if I'm allowed to tell you." He added, sounding confused then. No-one had ever asked him that before, no-one had ever seemed to notice that he was different before, and he wasn't sure what would happen if he told her what he knew. Maybe he would get hit by lightening? Or...all his super, womaizing powers would drain away and he would be normal again. Or, maybe nothing would happen at all.
"It's complicated, might be better if you don't know. I don't really think that I know. Why'd you have to go and ask a silly question like that?" He pouted at her and shook his head. "You don't really want to know, do you?" He asked before wrinkling his nose up, as though he had realised the answer to his own question. "Guess you could say I'm...Cupid?"

"...Cupid?" she looked almost vaguely amused before she realised that he had to be serious... then she was just confused. But then, it actually did make a surprising amount of sense. It explained why women could barely form sentences around him anyway, and why she found him so charming, and handsome, and... she was getting off topic. "Wait. So like, a real Cupid?" she asked softly, glancing over her shoulder to look up at him curiously. "Like with the bow and the arrows and the love and... all of that?" she frowned, finding it hard to imagine Kevay matchmaking and being all excitable at the prospect of two people being in love.
She'd only known him for a short amount of time, but even then he'd made it pretty clear that he was a womaniser (why he'd taken a particular interest in her she had NO idea). But maybe she just hadn't seen that side of him yet; his mood had already changed dramatically once, perhaps it would again.
"Okay. Right. Say that you were... Cupid. That still doesn't explain why we're on a horse on the way to Villefleur. What did that guy want with you? And who's this Lady Beaumont? Forgive all of my questions, but considering as I've kind of been brought along for the ride, I'd prefer to know about what I'm getting myself into." she murmured, looking into the darkness of the eastern road out of the city now, which led into dense forestry and all kinds of trails and hidden pathways. She was quiet for a few moments then, and when she spoke up again her voice was only very quiet. "What's it like?"

"Of course like a real Cupid." A faint smirk flickered over his features as he looked down at her, rolling his eyes just a little. A look of displeasure glimmered in his eyes at the mention of 'arrows and love'. "Mmm, that as well. I'm not very into that bit of it though. I'd rather not go around matchmaking, thank you very much. If people want to mess with love that is their problem, I'm not going to be to blame when it goes wrong." He mumbled. Oh great, now that he had started talking it was hard to stop. He had never shared any of this with anyone, and now that he had the oppertunity it seemed that he was going to dump everything on her shoulders. "I have no idea who that guy was." He shrugged to her truthfully, "I upset of people...but...Lady Jayne Beaumont..." He sighed and trailed off. "Jayne is dead...she has been for a very long time. I don't know how she can be part of this...but if ther is a chance to see her..." He began, his voice sounding guarded, making it clear that he didn't really want to tell her this. "She killed herself...blast...I'm going to have to tell you the whole damn story, aren't I?" His grip on the reigns tightened until his knuckles were white, though the arm that was around her remained secure and unmoving. "The where and when don't matter very much, but I suppose that you should know that I loved her. She was engaged to someone else...and I was only a tailor. When I told her how I felt she laughed at me. Laughed at me. They expected me to make her wedding dress and everything." He was almost growling then, scowling once more. "I left town, went searching for a way to make her love me. I found a way. Psht, I wasn't born like this. Don't quite know how it happened. I found him in a forest...remember cutting out his heart...not much else though. I think I might have eaten it, but I don't like to think about that." He shuddered, his eyes looking glazed over now, as though he was lost in memory. "And then I was like I am now. I was irresistable, I could make her love me. So I went home and did just that. You'd have thought that would be enough, right? Thing is I hated her. So, I made her fall madly in love with me and then left. She killed herself after I was gone, said she couldn't live without me..." He trailed off then, his jaw set as he stared ahead of them. It was clear that he wouldn't say anymore, Kevay slipping away into a brooding silence, not sure that he wanted Lexie to respond to what he had just told her.
