Charlie stopped and his face was covered with a mock look of deep thought. "Well, I'm guessing that their mothers didn't beat them enough when they were young," he finally joked. "Maybe they would respect women more then." He shrugged, then put his arm in hers without really thinking. He didn't want another man pulling the same stuff the other had. "Or maybe if I pummelled them myself. Actually, are you in the mood for pummelling? We can go back!" He grinned amiably.

She breathed a heavy sigh out into the still air, pouting for a brief moment before a weak smile ghosted over her features at his comments; the man was skilled at raising her mood, that was for sure. "I wouldn't want you to get blood on your nice new clothes." She told him, wrinkling her nose up a little. "He's not worth bothering about, I doubt that even a good pummeling would be able to make him act more civilized." She decided with a nod of her head, glancing around for a moment before looking back up at Charlie. "And now I can't remember what we were talking about!"

Charlie laughed. "Oh damn," he said, snapping his fingers in sarcastic disappointment. "I was so looking forward to pummeling him, muffin." He accented the last word and said it while looking directly into the eyes of a man who was staring at himself and Angel. The man quickly turned his gaze away, blushing a bit, and went about gardening his flowerpatch. He laughed again. It was something he couldn't stop doing around her. "Who knew the word 'muffin' was so sinister?" He grinned and shrugged. "Why, the next time I'm rescuing a beautiful woman, I shall just scream the word 'muffin' and send the dastardly villains fleeing before my feet!"

She turned to look over her shoulder as she caught the tone to his voice, following his gaze to the man that Charlie seemed to be looking at, finding herself smiling as she looked back to Charlie. "Well, I doubt that regular threats would have any effect on people such as him, so it makes sense really that something like that would have more of an effect." She shrugged her shoulders, laughing. "Or maybe you are just a threatening sort of person?" She suggested, reaching up to tap the tip of his nose playfully. "Oh, and I am sure that would work, but could I advise maybe taking a sword along too? Just in case? Wouldn't want you getting hurt again now would I?"

"Alright, you win, I'll take the sword," Charlie said in defeat, though he was smiling. "But I'm still screaming 'muffin'! And me? Threatening? Why, you've cut me to the quick. I'm a big softy under this rough exterior, a sheep in wolf's clothing, if you will." Then he began in mock over-confidence: "I mean, I know these rugged good looks can be deceiving, darling..." He itched his chin with his free hand and lifted his eyebrows, posing, then laughed. "Ah, arrogance doesn't become me, does it?"

By the time he had finished she was watching him as if he were crazy, eyebrow quirked before she just suddenly burst out into a helpless fit of giggles, having to hold onto Charlie's arm to stay stood up. "No...arrogance doesn't suit you." She told him between giggles, attempting to take deep breaths to calm herself and regain control of her breathing, but that wasn't working out too well. In fact, Angel ended up leaning against him, while looking away from him so that he couldn't make her laugh again while she regained her composure.

Angel's fit caused Charlie to laugh more himself. When she turned away, he gasped, as if hurt.
"Too much rugged beauty for your eyes to feast on, I assume?" he chuckled, stopping and supporting her with a strong arm.

(I'm here but I's at college so I can see the c-box so if you're trying to talk at me don't be offended when I don't respond. ^_^)
"Oh, I am so transparent that you can work me out so easily?" She questioned with a grin, the playful tone to her voice reflected in her eyes as she tilted her head back to look up at him and smile rather innocently. "You will have to forgive me, I can only look upon your rugged beauty for so long before I have to turn away and regain my vision." Yes, she was teasing him a little, rather enjoying his company and being able to forget why she was here for a little while.

Charlie grinned. "Oh, I have that affect on people," he said, the mock confidence returning for a moment before he again laughed. He was enjoying the company. He had never had much luck with getting along with women (at this thought, the scarred hand tingled a bit), but Angel had accepted him. For this, he was thankful and extremely glad. This was much more fun than sailing.

Angel relaxed against him, content to allow her guard to slip around him and allow herself to open up to him in a way that she hadn't opened up to anyone else in a long while. Angel's story was a burden to anyone that heard it, and she didn't want to burden him with it...but sometimes she just couldn't continue alone. Charlie would probably end up being one of those unfortunate enough to be dragged into her story, to be burdened with her worries because she just wasn't strong enough to keep her emotions to herself.
She raised a hand to the side of her head suddenly, feeling as if a sharp blow had just been dealt to her temple, the fact that Charlie was holding her was the only reason she was still on her feet. Her featured screwed up with the pain, drawing in a sharp breath. A pain like that could mean several things, though all those things had one main factor which linked them together; none of them meant anything good.

When Angel nearly fell, Charlie tightened his arm around her to hold her up and his countenance took on a look of worry. "Angel! Are you alright?" he asked concernedly, turning to her so that he could hold her with both arms. "Angel?"

Angel didn't respond, in truth she didn't even realise that he had been talking to her. It felt as if someone was trying to invade her head, a confusion of feelings and images flashing past her minds eye, all jumbled together so she couldn't separate them. She was, rather unashamedly, leaning against Charlie now, turned so she could bury her face in his chest, her wings folded around the both of them...almost as if for protection. Panic, pain, fear, hurt...those seemed to be the main emotions she was getting...but what did that mean? Simple really, as an angel she was sensitive to other peoples emotions, just as she seemed to project her own emotions around herself. So, this must be someone in the village, but she had no idea who or where, which bothered her greatly. "Do you smell blood?" She mumbled to Charlie eventually, not looking up at him.

"Blood? Angel, it's alright," Charlie whispered, wrapping his arms around her. "No, I don't smell any blood. Or see any, for that matter. What's wrong?"

She could smell it, so why couldn't he? In fact, she was starting to feel the pain of this person spreading through her body until than and the emotions she was experiencing were unbearable. "No, it's not alright at all." She didn't mean to snap at him, but that was what happened as she broke free of him and stepped back, the feathers on her wings ruffled up with agitation. "Can't you hear them?" She asked, eyes wide as she looked to him, not understanding why she was experiencing this and he wasn't. "They're crying out for help...but I don't know where they are...why can't you hear them?"

"If someone was crying out for help, Angel, I'd be right there," Charlie said, baffled. "There's no one crying for help." Had she gone insane? That would be his luck. But she had been perfectly sane moments before. Of course, he didn't know her very well. What is she really was crazy? That would make sense. It had to be the only reason she hadn't put a hex on him or bruised him with a rolling pin yet. "Angel... look at me." He didn't understand why he didn't just give up on her and walk away, after all, he hardly knew her. But a hero didn't just save people from physical danger. Everything about Angel... her ruffled wings, her frightened and confused face, her stance, her torn eyes, screamed for help right now. "Angel, please, just look at me. There is no blood, no screams for help, none of that. Try and focus on me." He figured if she was smelling and hearing things, maybe she was seeing them, too. Maybe if she tried focusing on something in the real world, it would bring her back to it. The only other things he could think to do was turn and run, and that just wasn't like him at all.
