Demi gave Adrian a wink, before leaning against the tree. "Bad things happen, don't they?" Demi remarked casually, putting a foot on the tree. "When you think you've already sunk down to the bottom, you discover that you still have a few more floors left to fall." Demi put his other foot on the tree, and stood there with his arms crossed, balancing on the side of the bark by some unseen phenomenon. "Anyway..." Demi said, now beginning to walk up the side of the tree. "...we've got to decide what we're going to do. The guy's last word was Dra-. Personally, I think that sounds like Draven. Does that name mean anything to you?" Demi asked, peering at them from the underside of a branch.

Lola watched Demi defy gravity with a certain curiosity. Adrian laughed hysterically and reached out for Demi desperately. "Few more floors?" she growled. "The only thing I have left is my own life and my son's, and I'll be damned if..." The name Draven stopped her in mid-sentence. Her eyes grew wide, her bottom lip trembled, and her face became pale. "He's just a... a silly man." She turned her back so that Demi couldn't see beyond the translucent lie painted all over her face. Adrian whimpered a little, not liking that he couldn't see Demi. Lola looked at her son. She knew that Demi was her only way out of a mess that she hadn't even created. "My baby," she whispered. She had to tell him the truth. "Draven is... Adrian's father." She winced. Even if Demi was a thief, he still had every right to judge her. "He's the reason that I have no money to buy Adrian food, no home to keep him safe in, and no warm blankets to tuck him into." She leaned her head back, glaring at the sky, as if to scream out the pain in her eyes to the gods.

"In other words, he's one of the scum that defines men and the human race, I take it?" Demi asked, ringing off the biting words calmly. "A man who won't even support his own child... Despicable." Demi gently released the force binding his feet to the tree, landing softly on the ground in front of Lola. "Even more despicable, if this man is Draven, then he actually wants you dead for some odd reason. You see, I guess that's part of the reason why I'm helping you. I don't like seeing dead children." There was a pause. Then Demi straightened, putting his hands behind his head casually. "Anyway, you're going to have to call the shots here. Are we go after this guy, flee the country, what?"

Lola laughed, trying to hide her confusion. Did she still love him, after all this time? She should want him dead. She should have let her brothers kill him. She looked again at Adrian, deciding that, whether she loved him or not, he'd be better off that way. "Let's kill him," she said, all laughter gone from her face. "He has plenty of money and power now, obviously." She shrugged. "I'll give you half of whatever he has if you kill him for me, Demi." She looked at him, in the eyes (or eye, rather...) Hers were full of hope. Adrian was giggling again, reaching out desperately and trying to grasp the man he found so hilarious.

Demi chose not to reply directly to Lola, instead, he grinned under his mask and stroked the tufts of hair on Adrian's head lightly. An oddly wistful look flashed in his eye, and then he abruptly withdrew his hand and turned his back. "Oops. Sorry. I crossed a boundary there, didn't I?" Demi said lightly. "Anyway... killing Draven. I'm not particularly interested in that type of payment, I'm seeking... something else. Regardless, are you absolutely sure that you're willing to go through with this?" Demi paused, and stretched lazily. "Just know that from the moment you say yes, the life of you and your baby will be in constant danger."

Adrian grabbed at Demi's hands, making excited noises at being touched by Demi.
"No, it's fine," she replied as he withdrew his hand. "He seems to grow onto men faster." She stroked his head and adjusted him in her arms. "And I'll do whatever it takes. Our lives are in constant danger either way. Draven will stop at nothing to see us dead."

"Whatever it takes? D'you think you'd be willing to learn how to fight? To kill? To lie, and trick, and decieve?" Demi asked; and his eye seemed to glow brighter as he spoke. The gears in his mind were starting to turn, crafting a plan of action only sensible to himself. "Murder is not as easy as the innocent believe. Well... for now, you've given your consent. Here." Demi tossed Lola one of his few completely ordinary daggers, before drawing his own.
"I want you to try to kill me. I'll be doing the same." Demi said, as casually as if he was remarking on the weather, even though his eye glinted. "Starting.... Now!" With a hand gesture, Demi vanished in a puff of smoke, and reappeared a few feet behind Lola.

"Wha--?" Lola started. "Kill you?" she asked as he vanished. She twirled around and found that he was behind her. She was holding a baby and two daggers. "What good are you to me if I kill you?" she stammered, taking a few steps backward and holding Adrian preciously. Had he gone mad? This was too much for a girl who had never hurt anyone unless they had first tried to hurt her, and even then she had hesitated.
